[Marketing] few questions about the "Get Legal" campaign

2006-09-15 Thread Johan

Hi all ...
Regarding the "Get Legal" campaign.
On following site (http://why.openoffice.org/getlegal.html) there are 4
items describing the offensive that Microsoft has launched to make sure
every copie of theyre software is legal.

Are there any outside, neutral links describing these facts?

On this page there is also a quote:

Studies have shown it is ten times cheaper to move to OpenOffice.org 2 than it
is to upgrade to MS-Office 2007

Where can i find information about these studies?

Thing is: when you use these arguments in conversation, people are tend
to say: "yeah, you are a competitor of MS, you can say whatever you want
to make MS look bad". Therefore it would be nice if we could point
people to "neutral facts and figures".

Any links?
Thanks in advance,
Johan.

Re: [Marketing] New Contest Announcement

2006-09-15 Thread Florian Effenberger

Hi,

To all marketing and art project members,

The Documentation Project and Worldlabel invite everyone to participate
in our Template/Clipart competition. For details, see
http://documentation.openoffice.org/ We are language agnostic.

Prizes and recognition to the winners.

the idea is great, but in fact, the Germanophone project already had
such a competition (focused on templates, not cliparts) already in
March, so I think we won't take part.

Have you planned more contests as well, like a macro contest?

Florian

I'd prefer one on the 2006 Conference ;-)

But it has been very impressive: Meeting people previously known only by
mail, many really interesting discussions and the feeling of a community
with all the people there - including many people from Sun.

Thanks to all who made this event become true!

[Marketing] OOoCon 2006!

2006-09-15 Thread Louis Suarez-Potts

All,
I'll be posting a longer article on OOoCon 2005 shortly, but I'd like
to say that the recently concluded OOoCon 2006 was all we could have
wanted and then a lot more. It was educational and fun; a meeting
place for new friends and a rendezvous for those who meet but once a
year. Organization was excellent, and the venue allowed us to hop
from session to session. All in all, it was a success. My thanks to
the organizers, especially Sophie Gautier, Charles Schulz, Cedric
Bosdonnat, Marie Jo Kopp, and Jean François Donikian; and to everyone
who participated. If you couldn't be there, Kiberpipa recorded most
everything. [0]

Cheers,

Louis

Re: [Marketing] odf plugin for Word

2006-09-15 Thread Charles Schulz
Hello Catharina,

FYI, I went to meet the authors of this plugin, and it turns out that
they are 1° paid by Microsoft to develop the plugin 2° a simple MS shop...

Best,
Charles.

About the only concession we were able to get through direct contact was a
clarification of the licensing terms. Even that turned out to be a line at
the bottom of the page (in a very small font size).

There is at least one lawyer in the USA who is just waiting for someone in his
State to get stung. Then he'll be all over them (as we say in Australia).
Same applies in several other countries, where the way it is presented would
definitely be a breach of the local fair trading laws.
