This was a regular developer snapshot, we never announced this as
a beta
version. The more important it will be, that we will announce the
Beta as
Yes, there was confusion.
Not so strange, when you look at the splash screen
(of the localized m5 build, it clearly says 3.0 Beta)
It's the same we already did for the previous releases, at some time
the Developer Snapshot come with the splash screen of the next
release. Is this something we need to change ?
The developer snapshot uses the term beta in several places including
the title bar, about dialog, and Windows installation dialogs. This is
probably why many people think it is a beta. I suggest using alpha or
developer snapshot until the real beta is released to avoid confusion.
Here is few of the many examples:

http://forums.mactalk.com.au/13/48223-openoffice-org-3-beta.html
http://www.comvan.com/2008/04/09/openofficeorg-v300-beta-1/
http://www.oooninja.com/2008/04/openofficeorg-30-beta.html
I only found the term developer snapshot in one place, but then people
will think a beta is a type of developer snapshot (in the sense that
DEV300_m3 is still a beta).
