How about:

  OpenOffice

 Use it

Maybe consider placing a link for Tutorials below to give people a

Hi,

the FOSDEM is coming soon, organization is ongoing(see
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Conferences/FOSDEM/2009)

We want to produce some merchandising stuff for our booth. One thing
should be a T-Shirt (available for a donation -> production price + ...)

The time is short for a cool image/design (probably too short take 2-3
production into account) and the costs shouldn't be too high. We have
received 3 drafts but we can't use it because it's too complex for the
print.

We need something simpler. I think about something like this:

OpenOffice.org 3
It's free
It's open
It's simply cool

I created a pure draft (it's of course not good, the gulls are really
bad) and put it on the wiki. But hey i am no designer and gimp is not my

best friend (too complicate for me).

But i am sure that others have better ideas and hopefully somebody can
produce the final design in a more professional way.

I would like to start a brainstorming discussion here to collect ideas
for a nice T-Shirt. As mentioned before the time is short and we need
something at the beginning of January.

Please take my draft as a first start and let us collect some better
ideas...

RE: [marketing] Xmass theme for OOo Site

2008-12-08 Thread Tim Godfrey
Here are 2 ideas:
1. Use a picture of the two White Seagulls, fly them over a red
banner with chrome color influence and have them carrying green Holly by
their feet.
2. Fashion a picture of two red bow tied ribbons into the shape
of Seagulls

PS- Using colors of blue to grey with Snow Flake accents of varied sizes
randomly scattered in the background of the webpage like a watermark
would make touch as well.

Thanks,

Tim Godfrey

Considering that Christmas is celebrated by a minority of the worlds
population, I think it would be ill advised unless we make a holiday
set that recognises as many other holidays of other religious groups
that we can, and we use them throughout the year. Even then at some
point we will have interference, like now... which one? Christmas,
Michaelmas or Hanukar(? Excuse spelling) or whatever other variations
there are about the world...

Even the "snowy" logo is only relevant in a section of the northern
hemisphere and doesn't reflect globally. Where I am is high summer for
instance.

Cheers

RE: [marketing] Campaign on the Economic Crisis

2008-11-01 Thread Tim Godfrey
Thank you,

Ok, Global realities..,

We should probably list them so that we know what we're up against. I don't
know if there's already a list that's been created but I'm thinking; we can
list everything we can think of and from that, prioritize them as points of
focus.

Please let me know what you think...

Here are a few in order of highest value as I see it:

Communication
Education
Economy
Energy
Time

All of which can be classified as Global Problems that are shared by all. I
believe that while there are certainly others that could be listed, these are a
good place to start and further if we break these categories into types or
sub-categories that make them up we could use them to create marketing
strategies that will make people more aware that open technology exists, that
it is powerful and show them how it can be harnessed to help them with everyday
needs and all the while, remind them that it is free.

Here are some sub-categories that are common in all:

Family
Business
Personal

This is what this basic model would look like:

Communication
Family
Business
Personal

Education
Family
Business
Personal

Economy
Family
Business
Personal

Energy
Family
Business
Personal

Time
Family
Business
Personal

Do you agree that this is a good place to start or would you like to focus some
specific things?

Tim

Althought I do think that campaigning that OOo is free is useful. We
kind of been doing that all the way. What we haven't done is built a
link with the present global reality.

RE: [marketing] Campaign on the Economic Crisis

2008-10-30 Thread Tim Godfrey
I've mulled it over for some time and I'm seeing new slogans as indirectly
being a great way to pierce the market with a new message that has never really
changed.

"All the Office YOU need.., for FREE"
"Fully embracing open standards instead of your pocketbook"
"Less Overhead = Greater Efficiency"
"For People by People"

I picture these and a plethora of others being flashed across the screen with
seagulls highlighting blogs and in key advertisement places.

Please let me know what you think.

PS- Yesterday I came across a need that looks like an opportunity for
development that I believe would increase acceptance and collaboration
exponentially. There is also a need for an open source e-mail compatible with
outlook that would truly make (if it was developed) OO.o a well rounded office
suite.

PSS- Who would be good to speak with about development of unused ideas? I have
one that would add a whole new dimension to calc and as a product developer and
business partner were I work I'm convinced it would be a relatively simple
implantation that once created would astonish the market with its simplicity
and usefulness.

Another point is that with tax season coming up in short order, records
and accounting will be important. OOo can read the old files that M$
pulled the plug on this last year with the "security" update.

Does anyone has a table explaining the multiple cost of MSO through the

different license agreements:
- SELECT
- Open License Value
- Enterprise Agreement
- School Agreement

Also info on which software does Microsoft Software Assurance includes?

RE: [marketing] Mozilla Thunderbird + Lightning promotion on OO.o

2008-08-15 Thread Tim Godfrey
Hi Kay,

In my spare time, I work with the Dayton Gospel Mission giving assistance to
there IT and Scholastic needs at the Nehemiah University. One of the many
things we have the privilege of is offering education to those in needy
situations giving them new strength in knowledge.

We currently teach Office products and are interested in teaching OO.o. I
think there are great possibilities here to create a new marketing strategy and
would like to speak with you some time to discuss some new ideas.

Please let me know if that is possible.

Thanks,

Hi,

The OO.o and Lightning release date went closer.
I am in contact with Rafael Ebron Mozilla's international marketing he
is also interested in cross promoting OO.o.

Following initiatives was not rejected in my first mailing end of June
* Announced in the OpenOffice.org Newsletter
* Announcement on news.openoffice.org along with the 3.0 announcement
* Mentioned on the OO.o product/features page (with real live example)
* OpenOffice.org Solutions page

Not finally discussed where a promotion link on download.openoffice.org

It is safe to say that an integration or bundling with OO.o is not planned.

Is this summary correct so far?
Nether mind I would link re-initiate the discussion about promoting
Thunderbird +Lightning on the download page of OO.o, which is in my
opinion the most prominent place for a promotion.

We might start also a discussion how OO.o could be promoted by the
Mozilla Thunderbird team. Adding an OpenOffice.org pointer on the
Thunderbird page might be an option.

Finally we could arrange a telephone conference to discuss the basics

Regards

Kay
