[Marketing] Craig's List experiment

2005-05-01 Thread Benjamin Horst
Today I posted on Craig's List in New York to advertise my services in
OpenOffice.org Migrations and Planning. I wrote the following text:

As author of The Tiny Guide to OpenOffice.org and a longtime
participant in the OpenOffice.org project, I can provide planning
assistance and guidance to any individual or company interested in
moving from Microsoft Office or Corel Office to OpenOffice.org.
OpenOffice is LGPL free software, so license headaches are a thing of
the past. Compatibility with Microsoft Office is very good.

Reply by email or see my site (www.solidoffice.com) for more
information.

If many of us make similar posts to Craig's List, it could have an
interesting effect. It will raise the profile of OpenOffice and even
make it look like lots of small businesses are switching and there's a
market for people to provide the service. Guerrilla marketing! (Of
course, I think many small businesses are switching. However, that
needs to wedge itself into the public consciousness, and perhaps with
enough of our noise on Craig's List it may hit some of the connectors
and mavens that we need to cross the chasm.)

Anyone care to join me? It only takes three minutes. I'll look for your
posts!

Ben
