Indeed, JavaScript is the way to go. I was inspired by Fedora 9's
countdown [1], which people could embed on their websites. The script
that handles the countdown can be found at [2]. That's the easy part -
the most important things are the graphics :)

if the fixed release date is not known yet - when we do know, the
countdown can be added to the homepage.

If people here like the idea, then maybe someone on the art list could
design a graphic for the countdown - by that time, hopefully the
release date will be known :)

having a countdown graphic on the homepage? Popular Linux distros,
such as Ubuntu [1] and Fedora [2] have used this approach, and given
OOo's increasing popularity, I think it would help raise awareness
about the new release. Your thoughts?


that would be a good idea - but we can only do it as soon as we know a
