[Important] Please rebase your PRs

2017-10-09 Thread Indhu
Hi,

The build problem mentioned below was fixed by changing

the Jenkinsfile. Note that your build could still fail if you have the old
Jenkinfile. To make sure your builds succeed, please rebase your code with
master.

Thanks,
Indu

Cancelled builds

2017-10-09 Thread Indhu
Hi,

Some of you might have noticed that the CI builds were failing for reasons
other than your changes. There was a problem in the build process because
of which outputs from previous builds were not getting deleted and new
builds were failing due to that. This issue has been rectified. Since the
build slaves were dirty, I had to kill the builds that were running (which
would have failed anyway).

If you have a pending PR waiting for build, could you please kick off a new
build. You can also send me an email with the PR number and I can kick off
the build for you.

I'm sorry about the inconvenience. I'll closely monitor the builds until
the builds are back to normal state.

Thanks,
Indu

Incremental builds

2017-10-09 Thread Indhu
Hi,

We all have the experience of making a small change in a PR and waiting for
a couple of hours or more for the continuous integration builds to finish.
This is because at the moment, all builds (even if it only fixes a typo in
a comment) is built from scratch as a clean build. I was wondering if we
can do incremental builds instead for changes to PRs. So, a clean build
will still happen when a PR is submitted for the first time. But every time
a change is made to the PR, we should be able to do an incremental build
from the previous build that was done for that PR. This will drastically
reduce the waiting time for developers.

I have an idea to do this which involves creating a separate directory in
jenkins slaves for each PR and doing the build for that PR under its own
directory. These directories can be created in EFS and they can be deleted
when the PR is closed. I'm wondering if there is a better/easier way to do
this. Please let me know if you know of any.

Thanks,
Indu

NNVM Compiler

2017-10-09 Thread Tianqi Chen
Hi MXNet Community:
As you may have heard, we released nnvm compiler which brings MXNet and
other deep learning frameworks to bare metal
http://www.tvmlang.org/2017/10/06/nnvm-compiler-announcement.html
This opens a new page of deep learning on a various amount of
hardwares. While being an early stage, I would encourage you to try it out
as it already delivers amazing speed. On GPU and Edge devices (raspberry
Pi). It would also make the edge devices testing much easier via the
cross-compilation and RPC pipeline.
Moving forward there will be tighter integration of MXNet with nnvm
compiler with more good stuff to come
