AW: Possible new splashscreen for NetBeans 9.0

2017-06-29 Thread Christian Lenz
Great Suggestion Dmitry, I like the lowercases on the second Image 😊
I don’t like the background but this is only my opinion, I think you wanted to
bring the old/current logo into it if I guess it right?
I wanted to remove it from it because, when we will Change the logo, it doesn’t
fit anymore. Only as a hint.

I will provide later more examples with a better Background pattern, which
should Looks more modern than the current one from 7.0 until 8.2.

I will say BYOS – Bring Your Own Splashscreen too, that we can have a lot of
alternatives and maybe a lot of stuff for next Releases 😊

Regards

Chris

Hate 'em. The NetBeans splash images have always been artful and
inventive. Don't go with the "modern" "flat" look just because designers
are telling us it's fashionable. We aren't using 4.77MHz PCs any more,
it's OK to use a nice-looking image.

+1

So-called "flat" or "material" design is so last century -- right out of
the 80's.

Agreed, need to turn it around and completely head in another direction.

Yes! Given Sven's comment about the Apache feather, which as far as I
recall we don't *have* to use, I was wondering about background images of
feathers, changing each release? Something like this (public domain) might
work?

Best wishes,

One way to go for this may be something like Adobe CS6 splashes (Photoshop,
Illustrator...) - http://techinch.com/blog/adobe-cs6-splash-screens

They combine the flat, boxed and high contrast approach as posted by
Christian with some creative embellishments. I would totally dig a large
one-color feather in the corner.

Podling Report Reminder - July 2017

2017-06-29 Thread johndament
Dear podling,

This email was sent by an automated system on behalf of the Apache
Incubator PMC. It is an initial reminder to give you plenty of time to
prepare your quarterly board report.

The board meeting is scheduled for Wed, 19 July 2017, 10:30 am PDT.
The report for your podling will form a part of the Incubator PMC
report. The Incubator PMC requires your report to be submitted 2 weeks
before the board meeting, to allow sufficient time for review and
submission (Wed, July 05).

Please submit your report with sufficient time to allow the Incubator
PMC, and subsequently board members to review and digest. Again, the
very latest you should submit your report is 2 weeks prior to the board
meeting.

Thanks,

The Apache Incubator PMC

Submitting your Report

--

Your report should contain the following:

*   Your project name
* A brief description of your project, which assumes no knowledge of
the project or necessarily of its field
* A list of the three most important issues to address in the move
towards graduation.
* Any issues that the Incubator PMC or ASF Board might wish/need to be
aware of
* How has the community developed since the last report
* How has the project developed since the last report.
* How does the podling rate their own maturity.

This should be appended to the Incubator Wiki page at:

https://wiki.apache.org/incubator/July2017

Note: This is manually populated. You may need to wait a little before
this page is created from a template.

Mentors
---

Mentors should review reports for their project(s) and sign them off on
the Incubator wiki page. Signing off reports shows that you are
following the project - projects that are not signed may raise alarms
for the Incubator PMC.
