Re: [PROPOSAL] New Apache OpenOffice 4 logo proposals...

2012-12-27 Thread janI
I like new logos.

2 questions:
- did you try a deep blue instead of black as background, black is very
dominant.
- new font is better, but how about making it a bit more special.
for the 2 O, put in the seagulls (may dimmed).

just an idea.

Greetings to all in the mailing list and those in this AOO Logo Proposal
 subject,

In this email, I would like to mention that I have added two new logo
proposals to the Apache OpenOffice Logo exploration wiki article. Now let
me explain what this new logo it's all about.

The new logo design does away with the orb and changes it for a gull ring
that rests under a blue background which itself rests on circles which are
inspired on the Adobe Flex logo multicolor scheme. The new gull ring while
being new, retains the familiar circular shape of the current OpenOffice
logo, but at the same time is a new take that pays respect to the orb. All
of these elements are wrapped in a modern black gradient icon than makes
the logo stand out. Furthermore, the new logo actually changes the look of
the word OpenOffice into a more modern non-capitalized openoffice word
design (also an inspiration from the Adobe Flex project logo). The latter
serves the function of highlighting Apache as the owner of the project
(whose name is in capital letters), yet the non-capitalized openoffice
names takes presence by being written in a larger size font. Overall, the
new logo design is simple, clean, and modern.

Now that I have given a sense of the new logo, I would like to show you a
 reveal video:
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AC-tOuhTm9Y

But there is one last detail, which actually is a testament to the power of
OpenOffice. The detail is that the logo that you see at the end of the
video was 99% made in Apache OpenOffice Draw.

Hope you liked the logo and the reveal video.

 Happy Holidays!

You can see the formal proposal in the Cwiki at Apache:

Good! A list of volunteers for the FOSDEM stand is already being
prepared at
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/FOSDEM+2013+Organization

and additional people can edit that page and add their names (note:
you will need an account for that wiki; use the Sign up function,
top right).

Hi Ross,

2012/12/27 Ross Gardler rgard...@opendirective.com

Yes Apache license is applicable to docs and presentations. If distributed
via the ASF then they should be Apache licensed.

And what about multimédia contents made, for instance, with Wink, and
integrated in a document under Alv 2.0, to make an ebook, for instance ?

Wink is not free, but there's no restriction for the works created with it.
In this case, is an Alv 2.0 also suitable or are there any restrictions for
multimédia contents ?

The AL v2.0 was designed to be used for all resources relating to Apache
software. As long as you own the copyrights in the materials then the AL
can be applied.

Speakers have already been notified of acceptance/rejection.

But the detailed schedule is not ready yet, it will take some more days.

The idea is not bad, but we won't be able to implement it unless we are
given (I'm joking!) a second day... Keynotes, lunch break and the need
to start not too early already limit quite a bit our schedule. That
said, we have a stand/booth for two full days, so this might be an
occasion for some quick demos.

Michael and all --

I seriously LOVE this! In fact when I saw the video I immediately thought
about the 5 Olympic rings which in my mind is a Good Thing (TM).

On the initial page, I really did like the last drawing with the
interesting intersecting squares but thought it looked a bit washed out and
probably wouldn't reproduce well -- like on T-shirts for example. I don't
know how this new rendition would work but I find it REALLY stunning --
it's eye catching and fun!

The video was really fun as well. :)

THANK YOU! I hope others love this too!

Great job!

I think this would be a good idea. This summary so far is VERY interesting
though.

  1. All of the questions ranked by net votes on the tab net_votes
  2. The questions grouped into categories that I invented on the tab
  Categories
  3. On the third tab is a table showing the sum of positive votes for each
  category.
The division into categories is certainly imperfect but it is an attempt
 to
show that some general topics produced several questions though no single
question was very popular. Here is a text version of the table
 summarizing
  the positive votes by category

  Address labels9
  Android22
  Apache5
  Bugs31
  Chart9
  Email26
  GUI33
  Java17
  LibreOffice161
  Mac9
  Macros10
  MS Office interoperability54
  Non-English15
  Other formats54
  Portable19
  Reports9
  Spellcheck29
  Tablet14
  User profile14
  Windows 7 843

Other formats captures questions about formats other than odt or MS
  Office.
Spellcheck actually covers all language tools.
Email includes all topics about email, task tracking and similar uses.

There were 163 questions when I pulled the data and many don't fit into
 any
  category.

A great many of the questions are very specific support questions and
 nearly
all recent questions are of that type. Support questions are included in
 the
  categories above.

I hope some find this interesting.
