No, it shouldn't. Discussions about something else than a single
specific defect belong on the mailing list, not in some bugzilla issue.

Regarding your request (see subject):
I don't see, that developers still have one assigned field of activity.
That was something enforced in Sun/Oracle times. We are not that
hierarchical anymore. Nowadays everybody is allowed to work on everything.

Regarding the idea to connect bugzilla to a mailing list. We already
have that. That list is iss...@openoffice.apache.org. I even have
created a filter that directs all mails from that list that contain the
string 'New:' to their own folder.

Therefore I am tempted to close issue 122803 as RESOLVED/NOTABUG.

Hmm... ^^; I did not notice this following discussion.

I suppose we are counting the votes, not the comments after the
votes. That is, whether I comment as for the release blocker # or

I absolutely agree. Andrea already updated the vote result
accordingly. Maybe we can sort things like the reason for you -1 before
the vote.

-Andre

So please still count me as -1, although this does not affect the
result of the votes. I have to present my position as a member of our
local community.

Nevertheless, this release is great! It's really pity for me not
able to involve in the process of this release. Thanks to Juergen and
everybody on your hard work on this release.

imacat's VOTE was not a Veto as you cannot veto a release.

Enough misunderstandings here (I think that Jan was saying: Juergen
cannot decide by himself whether a -1 is valid...).

Anyway, let's update the tally to 24 +1 votes (14 binding) and 1 -1
vote (imacat, binding) and move on.

As Juergen already wrote, we remain committed to make the traditional
Chinese version available at the earliest occasion, it is already at
100% but it simply came too late to build/include it. In the meantime,
it will be available as snapshot build.

do whatever you want, from my point of view imacat voted on something that
wasn't part of the vote. It remains an invalid vote for me.

 1) I have downloaded source code directly from

 2) Did my configure using the below paths:

 \

 --disable-directx \

 --enable-dbgutil \

 --enable-pch \

 --disable-atl \

 --disable-activex \

 --disable-binfilter \

 3) Bootstrap ran properly.

 4) dmake is failing to build stlport module with the error

 1) Resolving the conflicts by going to separate files like

Can we do something like this?

Announce == go live with news on front page, header announcement on
every page (branding.mdtext), announcement email, blog post, social
media, new logo on website, etc.

For the Release part, can we do that end-of-day today, say in a
couple of hours?

For the announcement part, this waits for the ASF press release to go
out tomorrow (Tuesday) at 6am New York time.

This will give us some time today to:

1) verify the downloads are working
2) add the correct download links to the NL pages.

A sterling idea! and one I was thinking about also! +1

I was just about to suggest holding off on the web site branding
changes until much later today. But, this idea is better.

Re site branding updates -- later today (1700 PDT? or suggest something
an alternate time) after 'Release' stage, I will commit/port branding/site
changes to staging -- they're not there yet -- so someone else can publish
this if need be. I will NOT be available at 0600 EDT -- later like 1100 EDT
probably.

Branding changes are now in staging for www.openoffice.org:

http://ooo-site.staging.apache.org/

So, this one is available for publishing, along with all the download
changes, etc that went in today. A surprisingly quick refresh.

Any problems?

I'm getting error messages on project site that I can only do CHECKOUTs.

Not sure what the problem is. :(

I'll try again in an hour or so and see if I can get them committed. If I
can't, I'll file an issue with the files attached and post the issue number
here.

later...

Ok, all good...both sides updated with new branding...

http://openoffice.staging.apache.org/

Hopefully, good to be published...

Sweet dreams, people! :)

I've been somewhat puzzled by sourceforge.net when I downloaded AOO 4.0 some

Starting from http://www.openoffice.org/download/ the automatic download of
the DE version 4.0 was OK in general.

But after some minutes into the download, the sourceforge screen changed to a
view, where again a big green download button appeared. This download button
led to AOO 3.4.1 en-US, not to AOO 4.0 DE.

We can investigate that, though it is not the normal path to

ES and IT should be very similar since I cloned IT from ES back at the time.

 To: dev@openoffice.apache.org
Subject: Extension toolbar compatibility and 4.0, again

 Hi,

I'm a developer with Zotero. We currently distribute a
LibreOffice/OpenOffice.org plugin for our software that provides rich
citation
functionality in OpenOffice/LibreOffice/NeoOffice, as well as plugins for
Word for Mac and Word for Windows.

I've read through the previous thread on changes to the toolbar in 4.0
 (http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/openoffice-
 dev/201302.mbox/%3C51195E5E.304%40laposte.net%3E), but I'd like to
emphasize that the changes to toolbar functionality in AOO 4 are quite
problematic for us, not because the change to Addons.xcu is hard, but
because having a separate extension for AOO 4 is somewhat of a nightmare
from a support and distribution perspective.

To give some background, users don't install our extension manually.
Instead, it is installed either by an optional Firefox extension (in
Zotero for
Firefox) or automatically when our software is opened (in Zotero
Standalone). At the moment, the same extension works with NeoOffice
 3.0+, OpenOffice.org 3.0-3.3, AOO 3.4, LibreOffice 3.4-4.1.

Unless there's a way to create a single extension that works with AOO 4
and
LibreOffice or earlier versions of OOo, supporting AOO 4 would appear to
 require the following changes:

 1. Adapt the extension to work with Apache OpenOffice. This is actually
the
 easiest part.
 2. Bundle two extensions with the LibreOffice plugin and Zotero Standalone
(2MB more download size) or modify the extension locally on install to use
a
separate Addons.xcu file for AOO 4.
 3. Detect AOO 4 and install a different extension there than we do in
 LibreOffice, AOO 3.4, and OOo.
 4. Find a way to make the extension fix itself when AOO is upgraded (is
this
possible?), or at least present a dialog telling the user to reinstall the
 extension from within Zotero.

IF a) end users decide to have their user profile transferred during
upgrade, and
IF b) your extension is installed per user (= NOT installed in --shared
mode),
then the answer to question 4 depends on your description.xml, I think.

Is there an external link for update-information in your extension's
description.xml? Something like

update-information
src xlink:href=[link to an xml file on your server] /
/update-information

If so, it should not be difficult to inform end users of the availability
of an update and provide automatic update via a link to a server of yours,
if the end user wants that.

Extensions installed in --shared mode seem to be neglected by the upgrade to
AOO 4.0.

While I realize that this is somewhat late in your release process, it
would
make us much happier if AOO 4 could use an alternative Addons.xcu file
(Addons4.xcu?) if it exists. That way we wouldn't have to distribute
multiple
extensions, and our toolbar wouldn't break for our users when they upgrade
to AOO 4. If this isn't a possibility, perhaps someone has a better
suggestion
for how we should handle this?

 Thanks,
 Simon

ES and IT should be very similar since I cloned IT from ES back at the

The problem is that these pages use

So for the time being I simply linked to the English download page in
 http://www.openoffice.org/it/
and I will have a look at properly fixing this tonight, European time.

ES page link to English download page for now on both, the main page and
the topnav.mdtext file. But for example ES forums links to ES download page
so this needs to be solved. I have no idea about js so I cannot go further.

Assigned Bugs

2013-07-23 Thread Rainer Bielefeld

Hi all,
in AOO bugzilla there are lots of lots of unfixed Bugs with an Assignee,
but without any change for years.

So, for example, today I found 722 unfixed bugs assigned to
groucho...@googlemail.com (with changes within last 2 years). 2 Bugs
with this assignee changed to FIXED within that time. I wonder for what
it can be useful to have such an amount of assigned bugs for a single
assignee. Can someone fix the gap in my knowledge?

Discussion please on dev@

Hi Rainer,

I'm not sure what you are suggesting. many of the core developers
already follow the iss...@openoffice.apache.org mailing list. All new
Bugzilla issues and changes to issues are echoed to that mailing list.
But we also generally start a new thread on the dev list to discuss
any issue that needs special attention. The dev list is the best way
to get the project's attention.

One thing we could do better is to then take the conversation back to
Bugzilla and continue it there. But the dev list is still useful for
that initial, Hello, we need to discuss issue 12345.

Note some teams at Apache do a lot more in their issue tracker than we
do. For example, the Legal Affairs team does a good portion of their
discussions within JIRA. That is because their discussions are much
more focused on specific issues or questions, e.g, Is this license

issue tracker, but we also have free-flowing discussions of
brainstorming, how-to questions, coordination, etc.

All discussion should be in the bug, please!

Support for Windows 7 (and 8) Jump list

2013-07-23 Thread V Stuart Foote
Windows 7 (and now 8) have WPF support for Start menu and Task bar feature
commonly know as Jump lists. They allow organization of frequent and recent
tasks and documents into Jump lists associated with applications when
pinned to the Start menu or the Task bar.

Apache OpenOffice 4.0 does not implement dedicated support for this Windows
specific GUI, yet Jump lists are a major UX aspect of the Windows 7 and now
Windows 8 desktop. Default handling of AOO 4.0 components is no longer
functioning--it worked through the 3.4.1 release.

Have opened issue aoo#122809
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=122809 for this
enhancement.

Logo on CWiki page?

2013-07-23 Thread Rob Weir
All of our CWiki pages, including the Release Notes, has a small Logo
in the upper left. It points this file:

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/download/attachments/27361429/OOOUSERS?version=3modificationDate=1352114158000

Is there some special page that contains that logo? Is it
accessible to anyone here? Or do we need to go through Infra to
update?

Because of the small space, I wonder if a globe-only logo would work
better there, perhaps a little larger even?

[WEBSITE] Recent blog posts section is outdated

2013-07-23 Thread Manuel del Valle
First and mainly: Congratulations!! and thank you for your great work! :)

Just entered the site (openoffice.org) and noticed that the small Recent blog
posts section is outdated, and wanted to let you know in case you'd missed it
with all the excitement about the release.

Don't know if it's a script that needs a fix, or just some manual work, but
it's a pitty recent posts don't get covered, considering all the (huge amount
of) attention the site is getting for the next several days.

HTH

Cheers! and again,

Congratulations! :)

problem with new logo

In Draw, on two different machines, both 3.4.1 and 4.0, it looks like the
following:

Would this be a problem with Draw or the .svg?

I used the optim.svg from:

http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/openoffice/ooo-site/trunk/content/marketing/art/galleries/logos/aoo-working/

to render the logo for the websites -- 300 (wide) x136 then cropped in two
directions.

The svg came up fine for me in Gimp on Linux. That said, since I'm not and
svg expert, I don't know if the svg has problems or not.

Sorry, I can't be more help.

Remember, the number of people who have admin-related
 questions

   served

by directing them to some variation of a page like the one we
   have on
   the main website:
   http://www.openoffice.org/contact_us.html

Why not linking directly to it then? It would be enough to add
 a

   section

   to

   http://www.openoffice.org/contact_us.html
   like the following:

   * If you have technical problems with one of the OpenOffice

   websites...

   - For problems with the www.openoffice.org site: contact

dev@openoffice.apache.org and insert [Website] in the subject

   - For problems with the https://issues.apache.org/ooo/ site:
  contact

   aoo-bugzilla-ad...@apache.org

   - For problems with the wiki.openoffice.org site: contact

dev@openoffice.apache.org and insert [Mwiki] in the subject

   - For problems with the https://translate.apache.org/ site:
  contact

l...@openoffice.apache.org and insert [Pootle] in the subject

   Regards,
   Andrea.

This suggestion looks very reasonable to me.

In general also for me reasonable. But I don't want to rely on
 the

subject prefix that the users have to insert manually. Rather, I
  would

   use

some aliases to see where the mail come from.

   web-admin@ -- dev@
   wiki-admin@ -- dev@

   Marcus

sounds good to me, even though I dont think it will make a huge

   difference'

having a contact link on wiki will cause trafic, and users pr

   defitinition

   choose the easy road.

Yes, users are lazy, but they also know what they want. They only
write to the dev list if there is no other option that sounds
 closer
to what they were looking for.

So if we have have a page that gives them the appropriate options
 for
support, reporting bugs, admin issues, etc., and order these
   appropriately on
the page (most commonly needed at top), then we should do OK. The
idea that Dave had was to add these items to an existing contact
 page
that already has these other options.

So the issue is that 99.99% of the visitors to a wiki page, if they
have a question, will have a product support question. Some, but
 very
few, will have an admin-related question. It is OK to tell how to
 get
admin help, but we need to make sure that we say, in the same
 place,
how to get product support, and make the product support more
prominent by listing it first. That explains the ordering of
   information on the contact page:

   http://www.openoffice.org/contact_us.html

It is not perfect, but it gets most people closer to where they
 want
   to be.

which I why I wrote sounds good to me.

Also, to the other idea, an alternative to a set of email aliases is

to use URL's of the form:
   mailto:d...@openoffice.org?subject=[Pootle].

+1 that is a better idea, since we do not need to maintain extra
  virtual
   mail adresses
(I did not know that trix, thats pretty cool)

Yes, with this formatting it's OK.

However, we should extend the contact_us.html were needed to point
 to
this site from, e.g., Wiki or Forum. No need to create a new page for
such purpose - ahm, if this was planned. ;-)

I updated the webpage and added some text and links at the end:

   http://ooo-site.staging.apache.org/contact_us.html

   Feel free to improve.

Does a user really need to subscribe to dev@ to get e.g. help with wiki
login ? I dont think that is very user friendly.

Indeed. Asking users that only need to resolve one problem to expose
 their
private email addresses on a public list is not good, but asking them to
also subscribe to a list with a hundred email/day is really bad. Just
 think
about the number of please unsubscribe emails that will come later...

Why not just have them enter an issue into BZ? We have categories for
these kinds of things. And an issue tracker is ideally suited
for...well... tracking issues. The reporter of the issue gets
updates, can follow up to questions, they don't need to expose their
 address, it

The problem is simple the Sans Pro font doesnt display properly when
rendered by other engines.
font-family=Source Sans Pro Light

I recomend a simple edit, to change from Fonts to Paths, that way the
nodes and form is statically set, the render would be numerical and
will be more accurate.

I generate one here:

Also, the TM stamp renders weird, I think. It's a different font from the

I have the same issue when I try to open svg files from:

https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/openoffice/ooo-site/trunk/content/marketing/art/galleries/logos/aoo-working/

They don't look like the ones in the PDFs.

This suggestion looks very reasonable to me.

In general also for me reasonable. But I don't want to rely on

the

subject prefix that the users have to insert manually. Rather, I

would

use

some aliases to see where the mail come from.

web-admin@ -- dev@

sounds good to me, even though I dont think it will make a huge

having a contact link on wiki will cause trafic, and users pr

choose the easy road.

The reporter of the issue gets
updates, can follow up to questions, they don't need to expose their
address, it doesn't flood the list with unwanted traffic, it helps us
manage issues, etc.

-Rob

BZ requires registration also to enter an issue. I think using BZ is ideal
as opposed to dev. Maybe there is a way to nicely usher in MWiki folks
to BZ.

BZ is already flooded enough with issues that are better suited in the
forums as

The Downloadzahl:? I assume that is the download count for all
versions of AOO (and probably OOo) that they have hosted. It is hard
to interpret since I don't know when they started.

However, if you look at this page you get the weekly count:

Interesting comparison there to LibreOffice as well, for those who

Announce == go live with news on front page, header announcement on
every page (branding.mdtext), announcement email, blog post, social
media, new logo on website, etc.

For the Release part, can we do that end-of-day today, say in a

For the announcement part, this waits for the ASF press release to go
out tomorrow (Tuesday) at 6am New York time.

This will give us some time today to:

 1) verify the downloads are working
 2) add the correct download links to the NL pages.

A sterling idea! and one I was thinking about also! +1

I was just about to suggest holding off on the web site branding
changes until much later today. But, this idea is better.

Re site branding updates -- later today (1700 PDT? or suggest something
an alternate time) after 'Release' stage, I will commit/port
 branding/site
changes to staging -- they're not there yet -- so someone else can
 publish
this if need be. I will NOT be available at 0600 EDT -- later like 1100

Branding changes are now in staging for www.openoffice.org:

So, this one is available for publishing, along with all the download

Hi,

I'm a web administrator... so I *KNOW* you want to know this:

at:
http://www.openoffice.org/why/why_new_computers.html
find:
You are not required to spent $100, $200 more for a copy

I believe it should be *spend*... not Spent I think you may want
to add the word or too. So:

*You are not required to spend $100, $200, or more for a copy of Microsoft
Office*.

Thanks for all the wonderful work being accomplished by the amazing Open
Office team.

Respectfully,

Yes, at least on the it site it was a mixture of wrong path for CSS +

Hi,

I'm a web administrator... so I *KNOW* you want to know this:

You are not required to spent $100, $200 more for a copy

I believe it should be *spend*... not Spent I think you may want
to add the word or too. So:

*You are not required to spend $100, $200, or more for a copy of Microsoft
Office*.

Thanks for your hint. I've fixed it in our staging area. With the next
push it will go Live.

Thanks for all the wonderful work being accomplished by the amazing Open

Thank you very much. :-)

Download page on ES site also point to 3.4.1 on both the live site and
the

staging site. But I have no idea how to fix it

ES and IT should be very similar since I cloned IT from ES back at the
time.

The problem is that these pages use
http://www.openoffice.org/**download/globalvars_improved.**jshttp://www.openoffice.org/download/globalvars_improved.js
which still has 3.4.1, but since it's global configuration I didn't
change
it. The current download page uses
http://www.openoffice.org/**download/globalvars.jshttp://www.openoffice.org/download/globalvars.js
that has the correct numbers but does not work as a
globalvars_improved.js
replacement in the IT site.

Maybe Marcus can help describe what needs to be done here. I bet
their are HTML changes needed as well as pointing to the new
javascript.

Yes, at least on the it site it was a mixture of wrong path for CSS + JS
paths and slightly outdated JS code in the it/download/index.html webpage.

I'm working on it and other languages.

Marcus

So for the time being I simply linked to the English download page in

http://www.openoffice.org/it/
and I will have a look at properly fixing this tonight, European time.

Thanks. Note that the update notifications point users to the NL home
pages in many cases. So we cannot enable the upgrade notifications
until the NL pages are updated. Either that or we change the update
config file to send everyone to the EN homepage. But better to get
the NL pages correct, if that can be done in a reasonable amount of
time,

-Rob

Three possible issues in AOO 4.0 en_UK

2013-07-23 Thread Marco A.G.Pinto

Hello!!!

I have installed version 4.0 selecting the checkbox to remove old
versions.

I also installed the Portuguese dictionary, the US dictionary
(mini-geek) and the LanguageTool (developer) extension.

When I rebooted my Windows 8 Pro x64, when it was reaching the
screen before the login screen, I got a blue screen saying an error
has occurred and that Windows needed to restart.

I have tried using the US dictionary, but when I right click in the
status bar at the bottom of AOO where the language is, there is no
"US", only "Portuguese (Portugal)", UK and a few choices to not
check spelling.

I also tried opening a .RTF file with lots of highlight colours in
the words and the colours are gone. But I tried this with 3.4.1 and
there it happened as well. Where can I upload this file? Or can I
send it to the mailing list?

Thanks!

Kind regards from,
 Marco A.G.Pinto

This is the file that needs to be updated:

It generates the recurring parts of the branding, including the logo

Hello Marco,
I downloaded your document and I see two lines in blue and 13 lines in
red, the remainder are black. Is that right? I am using version 4.0.

For the signature problem on the forum, you might try saying you use
version 3.4.1. I have reported the problem but I'm not sure how long it
will take to fix if it is indeed a general problem.

Finally, there is a tutorial on the forum about fixing spell check

 Hello Marco,
I downloaded your document and I see two lines in blue and 13 lines in
red, the remainder are black. Is that right? I am using version 4.0.

For the signature problem on the forum, you might try saying you use
version 3.4.1. I have reported the problem but I'm not sure how long it
will take to fix if it is indeed a general problem.

A possible workaround, pending a fix for this, is to register as using 3.4.1
and then later, using User Control Panel, edit the signature to AOO4.0. The
limited registration options are intended as a crude (but effective) anti-spam
device.

Finally, there is a tutorial on the forum about fixing spell check
problems. You do not have to be registered to view it. The link is
 http://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74t=16512

 Best regards,
 Francis

Fwd: AOO 4.0 Release Notes - Apache OpenOffice Community - Apache Software Foundation

2013-07-23 Thread Kay Schenk
I would like to change all links on the website to the release notes to the
link contained in this message despite the warning. Right now there seems
to some direct editing of the main English version page which is actually
live if you click on the Announcement url.

OK, I changed the announcement URL to the link above, and the Release Notes
link on the download page to a static html copy. It's not quite as nice as
the wiki page, but it will do for now.

And, my apologies for the first posting...I hit the send key too soon.

Release notes link on the project site

openoffice.apache.org is not changed.
