decimal point

2014-03-27 Thread jamki
Hello,
I am sure you heard abot problem with decimal point in calc.
Why can not use , and . as a decimal point like in excel and other programs
or make it available to configure independently of national settings in windows?
It is very annoying and frustrating to still keep this way in version 4, for
such a very long time, when millions of people search for solution to make
their job easer instead of harder!
Kind regards.
Jamki.

By default the decimal point separator used in all OpenOffice
applications (Writer, Calc, Impress, ...) depends on the locale setting.

Please have a look at Menu Tools - Options - Languages Settings -
Languages. Here you found the locale set for OpenOffice. There is also
the 'Decimal separator key' option. Help content for this option is:

help content
Decimal separator key - Same as locale setting
Specifies to use the decimal separator key that is set in your system
when you press the respective key on the number pad.
If this checkbox is activated, the character shown after Same as locale
setting is inserted when you press the key on the number pad. If this
checkbox is not activated, the character that your keyboard driver
software provides is inserted.

/help content

Thus, I can use , when I have e.g. a English (US) locale set,
OR . when I have e.g. a German locale set,
OR the system's decimal separator provided by my operating system, when
I uncheck the option Same as locale setting.

Does this help?

Best regards, Oliver.

Re: Pre-release IRC+video informal meeting?

2014-03-27 Thread Jürgen Schmidt
On 3/27/14 1:59 AM, Andrea Pescetti wrote:
I proposed this in another thread a couple weeks ago, but I didn't
 follow up.

Is there interest for a live (meaning: IRC + video, like Google
Hangouts or similar) meeting to make sure that we (developers, QA,
Localization, Documentation, website...) are all on the same page
 regarding the upcoming 4.1 release?

we can try such a meeting but I don't see the benefit compared to a
clear communication on the mailing list (can be of course improved).
Having it on the mailing list is good and everything is documented. The
main problem is the different mailing lists and the not correct using of
our tags (e.g. RELEASE, SOURCE, ...). I at least try to mark all release
relevant mails with RELEASE in the subject.

People can ask, propose or whatever on the mailing list and people in a
different timezone can read and reply later.

Our conversations are scattered across many places and it would be great
to have an occasion to bring together, in a totally informal way, active
 volunteers from all areas.

Either we do it in a more organized way and define exactly what we
expect or I am not interested. People can discuss on IRC or whatever
media, can collaborate on a proposal and can come back on the list to
share it with the rest.

It wouldn't be a meeting where things are decided (we have the lists for
that!), but merely a meeting where people can inform each other to make
sure that all priorities are being addressed: interesting bug reports
that need verification, bugs that might qualify as stoppers but that
need a developer to take a look, improvements to the release notes to
better describe new features, localization of release notes, changes to
be done to the localized websites to serve the new release...

I am in favor of having such discussion mainly on the list to have it
documented.

As for date/time, for sure one or two developers should attend for the
meeting to make sense, so I would leave to them total freedom in picking
 the right date/time.

I am open to try it based on more detailed proposal what we want achieve
and how it should work

Jürgen found out that the problem only happened when the dynamic loading of the

bridge had to generate the typeinfos themselves. Disabling the generation of
synthetic typeinfos and handling the consequences gracefully seems to be a
better approach.

The patch before allows the OSX64 bridge to handle missing type_info symbols of
UNO exceptions gracefully. This patch forces the availability of type_info
symbols that are thrown by the usb module.

So the bridge-patch solves the general problem of missing type_info symbols by
handling them gracefully. This patch solves the particular problem that having
the type_infos of thrown exceptions is always good. So the both patches
address different aspects of the problem that caused the reported crash.

looks ok so far, but we should try to find a more general fix for UNO to ensure
that the rtti exception type info is always generated. And we should check if

[RELEASE]: propose refined schedule

2014-03-27 Thread Jürgen Schmidt
Hi,

*** follow up discussion please on the the dev list only ***

I think we are going smoothly but straight forward to the AOO 4.1
release. By the way until today we have 208.000 downloads of the Beta.

Only one requested showstopper [1] is open that is not really a
showstopper from my perspective but where I am willing to integrate an
available fix.

The final regression test started already and we will provide a new
build asap. My plan is to have a RC in place for next Wednesday April 2
and start a vote immediately after the availability and run it over the
weekend until Sunday night (12:00pm UTC).

We can and should of course continue our testing during the vote period
but my plan is to have the release ready in time for the ApacheCon.

All open release preparation work should be done or prepared next week.

For example:
- finalize release notes + start translation
- prepare announcement + blog + social media
- ?

Any comments, ideas, opinions on this proposed schedule?

  Good evening,9
I have been a user of Open Office for a number of years now but upon
clicking the update button i was directed to your website to download the
  latest version.

while downloading i was notified of numerous viruses ect from my AVG.

Is this to be expected from your software???

from checking im on Open Office 3.3 curently.

i would appreciated any feed back.

  best regards.

The only site from which you should download is www.openofice.org/download.
This will redirect to a SourceForge server.

That should be www.openoffice.org/download (two 'f's)
