I've created a derivated work of your flyer.
www.softenpoche.com/sep/flyer_de.pdf
The aim was to get an .odt version, printable in Black and White and
exportable in hybrid pdf format (with the Oracle pdfimport extension) so
that it could also serve as an example of the use of this functionality.
I had never produced such a document, but with your file as a template, it
was a piece of cake, so, many thanks to you and your team.

I see the same.
It is our great pleasure if the AOO project, the Flyers now use wants, but for 
us it was primarily (not only, but primarily) about printed flyers for local 
work to have.

What I want to make clear is only that the Flyer is already printed, i mean 
printed in a printing company, we have concretely 1000 pieces, printed in color 
on glossy paper (around 9 kilograms of paper).

None of us are in principle against improve the Flyers, but currently we can 
not change the already printed flyers.

I see this as a praise for this good work.  We like it so much that
we're discussing how we can take this and make it official, and
translate it into other languages.  This is good.

I think this flyer is a great work, easy and billig to duplicate, with a
lot of useful informations. It's a low cost marketing product to distribute
in stations, so that people have time to read it carefully during their
travel and transport it themselves directly to their schools or companies.
An easy way to penetrate in schools and companies !
Two remarks.
- Was ist Apache OpenOffice ?
Perhaps a short sentence explaining that the product is developped with the
help of companies . That should have a good impact to give more to the
product a "professionnal look" always  appreciated in companies.
- Kann ich mithelfen ?
There's place for a frame where people who are acting around the product
(training, ...) could put their contact informations : name, adress, Email,
...

Only some personal thoughts.

I do not understand the special review of "Linux".
The flyer is e.g. also talk of "Windows" and that is, in detail, just as wrong,
for example, AOO does not run on Windows 95. 

I think everyone can information about any free software. He can do that in a
community, he can do that privately. In the flyer, no one has had the intention 
to
speak for Apache, but a few people on their own initiative made a flyer in 
doubt,
reflects their opinion.

Neither we informiert deliberately false nor have weir rights of AOO violated
because there are labeling as "TM" as well as a statement of the rights to the
logos.

*We have made the Flyer under a free license available, that anyone can do about
it what he does not like, or what he thinks is factually incorrect.*

But please:
none of us here has done anything wrong, said or intended. We are a few people 
who

Jörg showed me the flyer and I asked him if it's possible to make the flyer 
available for broader use in the community. The idea was to
- get translations (as many as possible)
- get feedback (corrections, ideas for improvements)
- get a start set of material that can be used for many events (small and big 
scales events) all over the world
- making use of the community and share this kind of material to avoid 
duplicate work.

It's good work and very valuable, so please talk about it if you have done such 
things and let us know.  


We shouldn't make it to complicate, a well defined place in the repo where we 
can store such things with a well defined structure for the translated versions.
A better integration in the translation workflow can we design at any time.

I like your "maybe", but as I see it, there are no such thing as "apache"
supervising what we do, "apache" is a community and we are all part of it,
so what we do as a community have to be correct.

I was just waving a flag, because I do not think that we support all linux
variants, and I have been asked this week, if I could make a AOO version
for eLinux (embedded linux) since there are no ready installation set.

Having said all that, I think it is a great initiative to make such a flyer
!! We are volunteers and that is what makes us special  !

I thought  a flyer and much other documentation (help, user, installation)
was "hanging" on a release, whereas  marketing is more general/timeless. In
the flyer is e.g. our platforms, which for sure is release dependent.
Please excuse me if that is already handled in /marketing.

Correct, is marketing the only issue here ? I have spent some time (not
related to l10n) to look into how we could handle translations in
writer/impress etc. and the answer is today "bad". But we could make a
workflow and that would be a start.

Actually translation support was something I hoped for in 4.0.

Maybe. This may well be.

But let me say:
The flyer is information that we have created voluntarily (some people in
Germany). This flyer is of course not an official flyer from Apache. It
corresponds to our own opinion that there we generally speak of "Linux".

/trunk/main is generally for things that are part of a release.  But
we can have other top level directories as well.  We already do that
for /site/ and /ooo-site

of /trunk/

And a localization question might be whether we need to reformat for
different paper sizes, at least US Letter versus A4?  We can certainly
reduce to print A4 documents in the US, but if the original is
designed to be a tri-fold flyer it might not fold correctly after
reduction, since the aspect ratios are different.

Just to air a thought, should we make a directory trunk/main/documentation,
and use the l10n process to translate the documents ?
