[dev] Register XML Filter

2009-09-03 Thread Jakob Mandalka
Hello,

is it possible to register a XML Filter via JAVA API?

I found the possibility via GUI to "Open a Package" in the XML filter
options..can I make this also via API?

Greetings

[dev] CWS printerpullpages delayed to OOo 3.3

2009-09-03 Thread Philipp Lohmann
I regret to have to announce that CWS printerpullpages (covering a
revised printing experience) just changed release to OOo 3.3. While it
is "almost done" (there really are only finishing touches left to do to
be feature complete), we will not have the time before 3.2 branch off to
do the proper testing and getting user input that this CWS requires and
deserves.

Integrating this CWS to the ongoing development tree soon after branch
off will give us the opportunity to collect user feedback and fix the
small things that are invariably broken after such a large scale change.

My thanks go to all the people who have been and still are working hard
on this CWS. All this work should result in getting this right in a 3.3,
not integrate prematurely into 3.2.

Kind regards, pl

[dev] visualization of oor:finalized=true in XCU files

2009-09-03 Thread Florian Effenberger

Hello,

I'm no developer, so please bear with me for my rather complicated
description. ;-)

As some of you may know, I'm involved in OpenOffice.org network setups
with a centralized configuration. I've already published various
articles on that and also contributed to the network configuration PDF
on our website. During writing an article for German c't magazine on
that topic (published in c't 18/2009), I came across a bug:

Although specific settings in the configuration can be locked with the
oor:finalized=true attribute in the XCU file, it doesn't work reliably
all of the time. Normally, when a configuration element has been locked,
it is grayed out, has a little key icon next to it and manual changes by
the user are ignored. While the latter one works in all cases, the
visualization of the locking doesn't work for all settings.

One example is the proxy configuration: You can perfectly lock it in
Inet.xcu, but the dialog does not reflect this change. Users can happily
modify the settings, nothing is grayed out. However, user's changed are
ignored and upon opening the dialog box a second time, the preconfigured
values show up again. This isn't only true for the proxy configuration,
but for many more settings.

So, the basic functionality works, but the visualization in the UI is
not always working as expected, which can confuse users.

After discussing with Carsten Driesner from Sun, he suggested to ask on
this list if someone is interested in helping to fix this. I am no
developer, so I can only help in testing, but Carsten offered some
instructions and guidance if someone is interested.

Although I agree that we have many more critical bugs to fix than this
one, I consider it important for corporate deployments. And as corporate
deployments are an important market, I hope for help ;-)
