Re: [dev] Does MS Office Binary File Formats Spec. help improve the binary filter?

2010-07-13 Thread Tor Lillqvist
What I was trying to say is that I recall something very similar to this
happening a while back and the company cried foul when the open source
software used their proprietory code and used it as an excuse to lambast
 open source in general.

So basically, just hearsay?

[dev] Does MS Office Binary File Formats Spec. help improve the binary filter?

2010-07-12 Thread Samphan Raruenrom

MS Office binary formats are no longer a secret after MS release the spec
http://www.microsoft.com/interop/docs/OfficeBinaryFormats.mspx
in Feb 2008.

Does this help improve the quality of the MS Office binary filters in
OpenOffice.org in any way? Since we no longer need to rely on
reverse engineering only.

2010-07-12 Thread Gregory Fenton
Sorry for my earlier email being incomplete, I was typing on my phone and it
sent because of an errant finger.

What I was trying to say is that I recall something very similar to this
happening a while back and the company cried foul when the open source
software used their proprietory code and used it as an excuse to lambast
open source in general.

I will try to recall the exact details and reply to this thread when I do
(or someone else may well recall before me in which case please put me out
of my misery :p)

Regards

Greg
