[OSM-dev] OpenStreetMap Carto v3.3.0 release

2017-05-10 Thread Paul Norman

Dear all,

Today, v3.3.0 of the openstreetmap-carto stylesheet (the default
stylesheet on openstreetmap.org) has been released.

This may not be immediately rolled out to the openstreetmap.org servers,
but that is up to the OSM sysadmin team, not the openstreetmap-carto
maintainers.

Changes include
- Most shops are now rendered as dots z17 to deal with overcrowding
- Font selection is moved to its own file to make customization easier,
and to make it easier for other styles to reuse our font work
- Rare CJK characters outside the BMP should now render better
- Waterway tunnels in forests and lakes are clearer

This version is unusual because the next version scheduled for release
is v4.0.0, which will have the same cartography as this version.

Thanks to all the contributors for this release.

As always, we welcome any bug reports at
https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto/issues.

[OSM-dev] OSM GSoc 2017 projects are set

2017-05-10 Thread Stefan Keller
Hi,

I just realized that 5 OSM GSoc 2017 projects are set [1] (with 8
students as stated here [2]?).

Are you aware that there is another OSM related project here about an
"OSM extrusion adapter" on NASA Web World Wind [3]?

See also "OSGeo's GSoC 2017 - what's next" over at OSGeo discuss [4].
