[DISCUSS][RIP-29] Optimize RocketMQ NameServer

2022-01-13 Thread jinrongtong
Hi, RocketMQ Community:

Nameserver is a very important component in RocketMQ cluster, which is used for
route discovery. At present, the nameserver is stateless and lightweight, but
it still bears a certain amount of pressure especially when the cluster reaches
a certain scale. So I want to start a RIP to optimize the nameserver in
RocketMQ 5.0.

I want to optimize the nameserver from the following aspects

1. By separating the broker registration thread pool and the topic route info
acquisition thread pool, we can ensure that different types of requests will
not affect each other.
2. Optimize topic routing cache to speed up topic routing acquisition, reduce
nameserver CPU pressure.
3. Unregister brokers in batches to speed up the broker offline.

And there will be no compatibility issues in this RIP.

Refer to the document for more details:
https://shimo.im/docs/pXgKrCwxhCcTwPkx/

I can not log in to Google Docs now, so I put the document on shimo and I will
put it on Google Docs later.

If you have any questions, please reply to this email or comment on the
document.

Thanks

[DISSCUSS][RIP-31] Support RocketMQ BrokerContainer

2022-01-17 Thread jinrongtong
Hi, RocketMQ Community:

Currently, a RocketMQ process has only one broker. However, the slave costs
fewer resources than the master. So I want to provide a new BrokerContainer
mode, in which multiple brokers can be added or removed to a BrokerContainer
process and reuse some resources such as the transport layer. And it can
improve the utilization of a single node. So I would like to start an email
thread to discuss RIP-31 Support RocketMQ BrokerContainer.

I have written my proposal and you can click on the link below:

[DISSCUSS][RIP-32] Slave Acting Master Mode

2022-01-25 Thread jinrongtong
Hi, RocketMQ Community:

I want to start a RIP to support a slave acting master mode which enhances the
slave capability after the master goes offline. This mode can solve the
consumption interruption of order messages, delay messages, transaction
messages after the master goes offline, as well as the metadata rollback after
the master goes online again.

[DISCUSS][RIP-34] Support quorum write and adaptive degradation in master-slave architecture

Hi, RocketMQ Community:

First of all, Happy Chinese New Year! And I want to start a RIP to support
quorum write that users can specify at the broker the minimum number of
replicas to be ack before returning. I also want to provide an adaptive degrade
mode that can be automatically degraded according to the number of surviving
replicas and commit log gap between master and slave in this RIP.

RIP-14 RocketMQ Community Operation Conventions

2020-07-01 Thread jinrongtong
Hi RocketMQ Community,

Currently, Apache RocketMQ is becoming more and more active, and developers
from all over the world are involved in the construction of Apache RocketMQ,
but at the same time, we also found some problems:

Chaotic commit messages
Confusing name of issues and pull requests
Irregular merging behavior
Confusing labels on issues and pull requests

These problems hindered the healthy development of RocketMQ Community.

So I think it is a good choice to start a new RIP to standardize contributor
and committer behavior.

I submitted RIP-14 RocketMQ Community Operation Conventions, which describes
the specific conventions in more detail. I hope to hear more voices from the
community. So please tell me your thoughts by replying to this email or
commenting on google docs.

Best Regards!

Spring 2.2.0.

The main goal of this release is to align with RocketMQ Client 4.8.0 and
support the pull consumer pattern. In addition, this release fixes some
important bugs and make some enhancement.

This release will put the rocketmq-spring dependency into the maven central
repository and allow users to use it directly in the POM file.

The release artifacts can be downloaded here:

https://mvnrepository.com/artifact/org.apache.rocketmq/rocketmq-spring-boot/2.2.0

The release notes can be found here:

[DISCUSS] Prepare to release Apache RocketMQ-Spring 2.2.2

2022-04-01 Thread jinrongtong
Hi, everyone

I hope you’ve all been doing well. We haven’t released RocketMQ-Spring in a
long time. So I would like to start an email thread to discuss the plan to
release Apache RocketMQ-Spring 2.2.2.

I’m sorting out the relevant pull requests that we plan to release in the next
version
https://github.com/apache/rocketmq-spring/pulls?q=is%3Apr+milestone%3A2.2.2+is%3Aclosed

As you see, the pre-release will be aligned with RocketMQ Client 4.9.3 and
upgrade to Spring version. In addition, this pre-release fixes some important
bugs and make some enhancement.

If you have any suggestions please reply to this email.

Regards,
RongtongJin

[DISCUSS][RIP-44] Support DLedger Controller

2022-06-19 Thread jinrongtong
Hi RocketMQ Community:

After the release of RocketMQ 4.5.0, the DLedger mode (raft) was introduced.
The raft commitlog under this architecture is used to replace the original
commitlog so that it has the ability to failover. However, there are some
disadvantages going with this architecture due to the raft capability on
replication, including:

1. To have failover ability, the number of replicas in the broker group must be
3 or more.

2. Acks from replicas need to strictly follow the majority rule of the Raft
protocol, that is, 3-replica architecture requires acks from 2 replicas to
return, and 5-replica architecture requires acks from 3 to return.

3. Since the store repository relies on OpenMessaging DLedger in DLedger mode,
native storage and replication capabilities of RocketMQ (such as
transientStorePool and zero-copy capabilities) cannot be reused, and
maintenance becomes difficult as well.

To handle those mentioned problems, I would like to start an email thread to
discuss the RIP-44 Support DLedger Controller. With this improvement, DLedger
(Raft) capability will be abstracted onto the upper layer, becoming an optional
and loosely coupled coordination component named DLedger Controller.

After the deployment of DLedger Controller, the master-slave architecture will
also equip with failover capability. The DLedger Controller can optionally be
embedded into the NameServer (the NameServer itself remains stateless and
cannot provide electoral capabilities when the majority is down), or it can be
deployed independently.

DLedger controller is an optional component that does not change the previous
operation and maintenance mode. Compared with other components, its downtime
will not affect online services. In addition, RIP-44 unifies the storage and
replication of RocketMQ, resulting in lower maintenance costs and faster
development iterations. In terms of compatibility, the master-slave
architecture can upgrade without compatibility problems.

I've already done part of the work with Zhangheng Huang. Our proposals are
provided at the links
below:https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tSJkor_3Js4NBaVA0UENGyM8Mh0SrRMXszRyI91hjJ8/edit?usp=sharing

[DISCUSS] The code of 5.0.0-beta merge into develop branch

2022-07-11 Thread jinrongtong
Hi, everyone

I hope you’ve all been doing well. Recently we released the 4.9.4 LTS version.
The LTS version is the long-term support version. Subsequent bug fixes will be
backported to this version from the trunk in a timely manner. It is expected
that the LTS version will support an 18-month period. We have created a 4.9.x
branch, which is used for the long-term repair of bugs in RocketMQ 4.9.x.

On the other hand, many RocketMQ 5.0 new features are in the 5.0-beta branch,
including POP Consume, Batch ConsumeQuque, Static topic, Broker Container, etc.
I think it is time to merge these features into the trunk. So I start this
email thread to discuss with you about merging the code of the 5.0-beta branch
into develop branch. All the new features of RocketMQ 5.x will be in the
develop branch after the merger.

If you have any suggestions please reply to this email.

Regards,
RongtongJin

[VOTE] The code of 5.0.0-beta merge into develop branch

2022-07-11 Thread jinrongtong
Hi, RocketMQ Community,

As discussed in the previous email, we want to merge the code of the 5.0-beta
into develop branch. We also create a new branch 4.9.x to fix bugs in the 4.9.4
LTS version.
So I start this email thread to enter the voting process for the previous
discussion.

Note: after the 5.0.0-beta code is merged into develop branch, some large pull
requests that have not been merged may have code conflicts, which need to be
resolved by yourself.

The vote will be open for at least 72 hours or until a necessary number of
votes are reached.

-1, IMO, it is inappropriate to include the implementation of other languages
in the source code package when releasing C# SDK, which will mislead users. It
would be better to repackage.

I see. I don't know much about C #, but if most users can download the correct
package by other ways, then I believe it is acceptable and would withdraw my
vote. In addition, I don't think this will block the release process too much.
It is fast to repackage and restart an RC2 process.

[DISCUSS] Prepare to release Apache RocketMQ-Spring 2.2.3

2023-01-29 Thread jinrongtong
Hi, everyone

I hope you’ve all been doing well. We haven’t released RocketMQ-Spring in a
long time. So I would like to start an email thread to discuss the plan to
release Apache RocketMQ-Spring 2.2.3.

I’m sorting out the relevant pull requests that we plan to release in the next
version
https://github.com/apache/rocketmq-spring/pulls?q=is%3Apr+milestone%3A2.2.3

As you see, the pre-release will be aligned with RocketMQ Client 5.0.0
(Remoting SDK). In addition, this pre-release fixes some important bugs and
make some enhancement.

If you have any suggestions please reply to this email.

Regards,
