SensSoft RoadMap

2016-09-26 Thread lewis john mcgibbney
Hi Folks,
Josh, Rob, a number of others e.g. Peter from Continuum Analytics, etc, and
I had a pretty productive agenda last week. We've put together a
provisional roadmap for how we saw things panning out through 2016 Q4.
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/SENSSOFT/Roadmap
It would be really cool if we could try and work towards this with the
result being our first Incubating release possibly towards the end of the
year...
If you find anything at the Roadmap which you think is not realistic or
anything which is missing then please feel free to add. If you need
permissions to edit then please respond here and we can grant them to you.
Thanks folks.
Lewis

PPMC Members having login access to build.apache.org Jenkins

2016-09-26 Thread lewis john mcgibbney
Hi builds@,
Please CC dev@senssoft.incubator.apache.org in response
Can someone confirm if PPMC members have access to Jenkins on b.a.o?
Some of the SensSoft PPMC have expressed inability to log into Jenkins and
we are currently trying to resolve this.
Thanks

It is included in Distill since Distill has a hard requirement for
Elasticsearch. I'm still not happy with the fact that logstash and kibana are
also shipped with Distill (they really belong in UserALE's stack with a shared
Elasticsearch instance between UserALE and Distill).

Yeah we definitely want to get a Docker container set up for Tap. We have some
environment issues and missing features that should probably be worked out
first though.

Do you think there's a strong case for a single parent container that includes
everything for a one-stop solution?

Also, is there already a container for Userale's Elastic backend? It looks
like it might be included in Distill's?

Michelle Beard commented on SENSSOFT-84:

Distill can already be deployed with pip. There are multiple ways to deploy
Distill: deploy with docker, deploy with Docker, deploy with nginx+Gunicorn. As
for TAP, you will need to provide your own container and make Distill a
dependency.

In order to bundle this properly, I would either provide a higher level Docker
container or release it as a package. However, due to how everything is in its
own repository/organized, it'll be more difficult to ship this as a stack. But
I think one way this can be handled is by registering our respective docker
containers with Docker Registry.

I'm currently logged in -- cgimenez instead of login at the top right corner.
On the root page (builds.apache.org), I don't see a configure option on the
left hand side. I do see one in my user profile, but that's exclusively user
settings.

Edit: I also don't see a "Configure" option on the LHS while on the Distill
build page.

Thanks the question I am trying to ask here is "Has anyone been able to log
into Jenkins?"
If you navigate to the top right hand corner you will see a login feature... if
you try to login using your apacheID then hopefully you will be able to
configure jobs.
I am not able to see the configure feature on the LHS until I log into the
Application.

What does this mean? We originally built a new test app for Userale.js -- see
http://draperlaboratory.github.io/useralejs/demo. Is this ticket just a
leftover that snuck through the ticket migration?

Once we have a build I can modify, it should be quick to set this up for
Userale.js, assuming the NodeJS or similar Jenkins plugin is available? Build
system is fully automated otherwise and just needs a few shell commands.

Thoughts [~msbeard]? This gets more into your side of things, plus some Tap
work that's mostly covered by other tickets. Notable exception is some sort of
default data blob -- we have ones used to demo internally, but we'd have to
check with [~poor...@me.com] for general use data.

> Following a discussion with Peter Wang (Continuum Analytics), it may benefit
> us (from a community growth perspective) to containerize TAP+Distill+Elastic
> in a single bundle. Then provide users with instructions for how to deploy
> UserALE, and an option of deploying Distill through PIP. He really emphasized
> that bundling as much as we can will have a large impact on how willing
> people are to use our products.
> Also, bundle should be packaged with a neat little json blob so that TAP can
> be experimented with.

I cannot do this. The Apache Github mirror already has a gh-pages branch
present -- Apache Github admins would have to enable the site. In the end, all
the documentation will be moved to the SensSoft parent web page, correct?

Including this with two different metrics of the same dataset, since we are
limited with regards to demo datasets.

"Configure" option you were mentioning for the Distill job.
