I'll reach out to infra.  As a space admin, you should have a button in the 
lower left corner called "Space Tools"  that provides access to the Space 
permissions. There, at the very least, you should have visibility into what 
configurations have been set up.

Yes, I can confirm that in the past the individual users have been given access 
(not based on group memberships). If this is no longer accurate we need to fix 
https://sling.apache.org/documentation.html#the-public-wiki

I see that the 'index' wiki page is accessible to the 'sling-
committers' group, but I don't see its membership listed anywhere. This
might be synced from LDAP, but uf you can't edit the page I suggest you
contact infra about it.

 for a list of all current admins.
I think asking for edit permissions via the mailing list is the way to go then.

So I added your id and gave you appropriate permissions to work on that
wiki.
