Re: New logo

2014-03-21 Thread Rainer Hermanns
Hi,

the Logo already looks very good, my compliments for the designer.
But I'd also love to see the Struts brand as a upper&lowercase
written name.

Regarding the logo usage within the website header, a white shadow
(or another bright color) effect around the "badge" and brand name
might emphasize it even better on a dark background.

What do you think?

cheers,
Rainer

Re: com.opensymphony.xwork2.validator.metadata

2012-05-24 Thread Rainer Hermanns
Lukasz,

these classes/files are a leftover from the early days of the validation
annotations
and an apt processor implementation in webwork, that was used to create the XML
based validation configuration for those user still on Java 1.4.
I think this code could be removed safely, cause Java5 is a requirement now.

I think we have the required votes now to push out the release to the public

and call a new vote?

Binding GA:
Rene Gielen +1
Lukasz Lenart +1
Rainer Hermanns +1

Non-Binding GA:
Philip Luppens +1

XWork 2.1.6 released

2009-09-19 Thread Rainer Hermanns
Hi,

finally done, XWork 2.1.6 is on its way to the mirrors and should
be available soon...
A couple of issues were resolved, that hopefully stabilize the
upcoming Struts2.1.X release.

I'm all for starting the incubation process as soon as possible to
get XWork into Apache. If there is anything I can do right now to
get things started, please let me know.

thanks,
Rainer

You are right, the builtin profiling support is not what someone will
use to satisfy professional requirements.
However, for some it might be quite useful as it is now.
What I would suggest, is to get the profiling interceptor out of the
default stack configurations and leave it as a plugin interceptor.

Hi folks,

I really like he idea of bringing xwork into ASF.
I'll post my comments about this topic tomorrow,
was too busy to reply yet.

The long awaited xwork release will happen definitely
this weekend.

Musachy, are you done with your changes?

cheers,

nope, that fault we did once before in webwork and early s2 releases :)
The jQuery plugin should be/get one of the core plugins, not part of the

Re: Struts2 jQuery Plugin - Logo

2009-07-28 Thread Rainer Hermanns
Hi,

the implementation looks really awesome and I'd really like to see this
plugin in the core of Struts2. When we talked about the simple ajax tags
we want to build, we were already talking about jQuery as the foundation.

I'm really happy, that Johannes implemented this plugin and it is now
ready to use and I will definitely use it.
If we bring it into Struts2 core, I'm also willing to support this plugin
and help to maintain and extend the functionality.

RE: Struts 2.1.7 Vote

2009-06-23 Thread Rainer Hermanns
Al,

Sitemesh 2.4.2 was released via the OpenSymphony maven repository.
So, this is an official release, but it was never announced on the
OpenSymphony site, but on Joe Walnes blog [1].
I did the maven repository push from the tagged sources for Sitemesh,
so this shouldn't require further explanations.

Regarding some of the other jars, some updates should be useful:

commons-collections-3.2.1
- works without problems for me

commons-lang-2.4
- no problems encountered as well

commons-logging-1.0x
- using 1.1.1 for a long time now with s2 apps without problems

freemarker-2.3.15
- Sound like a good improvement, but we need to test this properly.

cheers,
Rainer

XWork 2.1.4 is out and on its way to the mirrors.
Since we had a lot of troubles with the empty "xwork-mock-plugin",

Re: Now that struts-master is done, going to start 2.1.7 release

2009-05-06 Thread Rainer Hermanns
Wes,

yes, we now have multiple artifacts in XWork. The former xwork-VERSION.jar
file
has been renamed to xwork-core-VERSION.jar.
Maybe this simple change would fix the break, I'll have a look at this
later today.
So, I think changeing the struts pom.xml should solve the problem.

Re: Now that struts-master is done, going to start 2.1.7 release

2009-05-05 Thread Rainer Hermanns
Wes,

thanks for taking action.

I'd like to commit a change to the sitemesh-plugin and upgrade
the dependency to 2.4.2 to be GAE compliant.
This needs to be tested first in showcase, but then I'd be
done for the 2.1.7 release.
Regarding the xwork patches for WebLogic support I'd be open
as well, but won't have time before middle of next week to do
another xwork release.

Let me know what you think.

cheers,
Rainer

another stable GA release for their production systems.

just my 0.02€,

Re: Struts2 and production apps

2008-11-15 Thread Rainer Hermanns
Hi,

xwork 2.0.7 is released and you can kick off the S2.0.14 release process.

I'd love to get more S2 developers into the XWork development process.
So, are there any S2 (or other interested) developers not yet involved in
XWork who'd like commit access? Please contact me by mail and I'll add
you.

Regarding current production apps, I'd go with 2.1.X from trunk for
development projects with a target release in 1-3 months and 2.0.14
(yet to be released) for production ready apps.
I have several projects running based on S2 2.1.X in production use, but
with some patches applied. These patches will soon be added to XWork 2.1.X
and go into the S2 2.1.X codebase.

As soon as my current project is finished in early December I will have
much more time to work on XWork and S2.1.X again.

Thanks,
Rainer

Re: 2.1 builds

Musachy,

if the latest XWork changes are tested and the various security applied
fixes do work, I'd be happy to fire up the XWork release process until the
weekend.

Let me know, if something else needs to be done.

Re: [VOTE] Struts 2.0.11.2 Quality (fast track) - UPDATE / SERIOUS ISSUE

2008-07-08 Thread Rainer Hermanns
Rene, I could release xwork 2.0.6 either today or tomorrow.
2.0.11.3 sounds good to me as well, but why not release
2.0.12 with some additional patches, like the freemarker
lib update.
Since it took that long to get out the fast track release,
another 3 days for voting wouldn't be an issue for me...

What do you think?

yes.. it was not yet officially announced, because of the missing Struts2
release. The release is available here [1] since 06/13/2008.
As soon as this release is out, xwork will be annonced as well.

Don,

I have a "workaround" fix for the failing build, that I justed commited,
but this needs to be reviewed again...

o fixing build by commenting "old" constructor in StrutsSpringObjectFactory
o adding missing param to struts-plugin.xml in portlet-plugin

cheers,

Kristin,

could you please attach this as unified patch to the related Jira issue?
I'll look into this during the week and apply the patch, if everything
is working properly.
It would be very helpful, if you have a unit test available, that verifies
the correct behaviour.

thanks,

JavaOne Meetup anywhere?

2008-04-30 Thread Rainer Hermanns
Hey,

who is going to attend CommunityOne/JavaOne this year?
Are there already plans for a meet up somewhere?

I think it would be nice, if we could organize
something downtown San Francisco...
I'll be in SF together with René and Ian from Monday the 5th.

Proposals welcome :)

cheers,
Rainer

Re: [s2] A thought - next generation OSGi-based?

2008-04-25 Thread Rainer Hermanns
Don, this sounds like a really good idea.
I currently have the problem to upgrade several apps from different S2/WW
versions to the latest release and your suggestion sounds like an ideal
way to do such migrations.
I'm curious about your plans and would like to hear more details.
Maybe we should discuss these ideas in more detail at JavaOne?

cheers,
Rainer

Re: [s2] Test build of 2.1.1 available

2008-04-25 Thread Rainer Hermanns

Don,

I just tried the all.zip bundle and I see that some of the new plugins
are missing:

struts2-dojo-plugin-2.1.1.jar
struts2-dwr-plugin-2.1.1.jar
struts2-junit-plugin-2.1.1.jar
struts2-spring-plugin-2.1.1.jar
struts2-testng-plugin-2.1.1.jar

I added the missing jars to the assembly config and tested locally
against 2.1.2-SNAPSHOT.

So I need to revoke my suggestion to publish 2.1.1 as a beta build.

May be we could get out 2.1.2 before JavaOne instead?

cheers,
Rainer

Re: [s2] Test build of 2.1.1 available

2008-04-24 Thread Rainer Hermanns
Don,

I tested the current build successfully on my current applications.
I'd suggest to call a vote for a beta release.

With a broader audience we could quickly clean up existing and coming
issues and target a GA release within the next weeks.
Before a GA release some issues in XWork need to be resolved, but these
are already scheduled for the time after JavaOne.

cheers,
Rainer

Re: 2.1 build

2008-04-01 Thread Rainer Hermanns

Ted, others,

xwork 2.1.1 is out and should be in the repos shortly.
So we should be ready for a Struts 2.1.1 release build now.

thanks for waiting,
Rainer

And, if we're ready to roll a Struts after that, I'd be happy to step

Hey there,

I am working on the open issues for xwork 2.1.1 over the weekend,
so that the release could be out on monday.
Since lots of fixes and changes were done affecting S2.1 core
features, testing S2.1 with latest xwork snapshots would help to get
both codebases stablelized.

Please report xwork errors to XWork Jira [1].

Ted, if you have some time next week for getting out the release,
that would be awesome.

cheers,
Rainer

I will help testing it (I don't have any application on production
tho). Ted if you could do it, it would be great, I think it is
about

time we get a build out there.

musachy

Re: [VOTE] Publish Struts Annotations 1.0.3

2008-04-01 Thread Rainer Hermanns

Hi,

just to make sure, is it correct that the Struts Annotations 1.0.3
release never made it to the central repo

and is still within the staging directory?

cheers,
Rainer
