Tomcat 6 - Cluster error.

2007-12-19 Thread Raúl García
Hi,

We are using tomcat 6.0.14.

We use a cluster working at the same machine,
we start it and it seems to be ok, replication is working fine.

But within the next 12h from startup, we see this error at the catalina.out
log file, of the first instance, the error repeats forever until we stop
both

instances and restart them again.

The server is supporting a 0.5 hit per seccond aprox.

Re: Tomcat 6 - Cluster error.

2007-12-19 Thread Peter Rossbach
I think your Membership DropTime 4sec is very small. Some more Load
or a FULL GC can drop your member.

Nomally I use 30 sec.

RE: Tomcat 6 - Cluster error.

2007-12-19 Thread Raúl García
Thanks Peter for the quick response,

Now we are trying this config at both instances(nodes):

Channel className=org.apache.catalina.tribes.group.GroupChannel
 Membership className=org.apache.catalina.tribes.membership.McastService
 address=228.0.0.8
 port=45578
 frequency=1000
 dropTime=3/

dropTime=3, as you suggest.

To reproduce the errors, now we are doing some stress massive hits at our
local backup server (same config, same machine).
Before a 12 hits (java log-in simple service) during 1 hour (From 14:00
to 15:00 aprox.), the instances log drop an error, but both instances seem
to be alive.

They returned the following (only once) error:

ERRORS catalina.out:

Tagging TOMCAT_NATIVE_1_1_12

2007-12-19 Thread jean-frederic clere
Hi,

I'll tag the tcnative to 1.1.12.
The changes are the following between 1.1.12 and 1.1.11:

+++
Improvement: Add support of J9VM based JVM. (jfclere)
Improvement: Arrange licence in source files. (markt).
Improvement: Add two new 'immediate' methods for sending the data.
 It is the responsibility of the Java callee to deal with
 the returned values and retry if the error was non-fatal.
(mturk)
Fix: Arrange the check of openssl version. It was failing on Linux.
(jfclere)
Fix: Prevent returning APR_SUCCESS when there is something wrong in ssl
layer. Fix for PR: 44087 (jfclere)
+++

It seems 1.1.10 was the latest release that has a tarball in
http://archive.apache.org/dist/tomcat/tomcat-connectors/native/...

Any comments?

Cheers

Jean-Frederic

Well, WEB-INF and WEB-INF/web.xml are processed if they do exist, but the
specification does not say that they must exist.

Chapter SRV.9.3 of Servlet Spec 2.4 says that a web application may consist of
some items, but as far as I searched nowhere is written that existence of
WEB-INF or deployment descriptor is required.

E.g. web applications that serve only static files may exist well without
WEB-INF/web.xml.

Please note also, that conf/web.xml in Tomcat provides the defaults for all the
web.xml files.

Also, from Sun's J2EE 5 Tutorial:
http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/bnadx.html
If your web module does not contain any servlets, filter, or listener
components then it does not need a web application deployment descriptor.

At most, it might be implemented as a configurable option to warn against such
directories, but I doubt that it should.

Marking this as an enhancement, Tomcat 6, and changing the summary.
I guess it will become WONTFIX.

Re: Tomcat 6 - Cluster error.

2007-12-19 Thread Filip Hanik - Dev Lists

you have a 3sec timeout on your message send

SEVERE: Unable to send message through cluster sender.
org.apache.catalina.tribes.ChannelException: Operation has timed out(3000
ms.).; Faulty members:tcp://localhost.localdomain:4002;

you can change this value in Transport

Thanks Peter for the quick response,

Now we are trying this config at both instances(nodes):

Channel className=org.apache.catalina.tribes.group.GroupChannel
 Membership className=org.apache.catalina.tribes.membership.McastService
 address=228.0.0.8
 port=45578
 frequency=1000
 dropTime=3/

dropTime=3, as you suggest.

This is a change from how Tomcat 4 handled this and most likely Tomcat 5.0 also.
For those upgrading from earlier versions this is a change. It can be an issue
for those whose website content and webapps have to coexist and autodeploy is
required.

Tomcat Bug 40150 and 44084: JAASRealm useContextClassLoader has problems

2007-12-19 Thread Ate Douma

http://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=40150 (Tomcat 5.5)
http://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=44084 (Tomcat 6)

The above issues are showstoppers for Apache Jetspeed-2 to be able to run on
the latest Tomcat 5.5 and Tomcat 6.

See also: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/JS2-828

Noah Levit already provided a patch for Tomcat 6 (which I think might also be
applied to Tomcat 5.5).

Can anyone from the developers comment on these issues and possibly provide an
indication if/when they can be fixed?

Kind regards,

Ate Douma
