Here's a small patch to line up the ISAPI redirector version reported in
init_jk.
Also uses JK_EXPOSED_VERSION instead of JK_VERSION so the -dev is picked up on
dev builds.

Updated IIS PoolThreadLimit detection patch

I've updated the patch to remove the memory limit detection - even if it's
correct there are very few servers in existence that it would matter for
anyway.
This patch reads PoolThreadLimit from the registry and defaults to 256/10 for
IIS/PWS variants respectively

In a servlet request handler, I have the following code:

response.setContentType("text/json");
response.setHeader("Cache-Control", "no-cache");
PrintWriter pw = response.getWriter();
System.out.println("Response: " + response.getClass().getName());
System.out.println("Encoding: " + response.getCharacterEncoding());
System.out.println("PrintWriter: " + pw.getClass().getName());
pw.write("é");
pw.flush();

The stdout log shows:
Response:
org.acegisecurity.context.HttpSessionContextIntegrationFilter$OnRedirectUpdateSessionResponseWrapper
Encoding: ISO-8859-1
PrintWriter: org.apache.catalina.connector.CoyoteWriter

Yet the actual response was "?" instead of "é", even though this character is
part of the later character set (ISO-8859-1)!

The following scenarios all send back the expected result ("é"):
 * The content type set to "text/json; charset=ISO-8859-1" (weird!)
 * The content type set to "text/json; charset=UTF-8"
 * The exact same code run in Jetty

I did limited testing on the distro (examples, etc.) as well as
deploying a home-brewed up and running scripted tests against it.

I'm fine with either approach as well.

I would have no problem with this approach either. +1 to that as well
;)  Slightly gentler warning.

DO NOT REPLY [Bug 44428] New: - FunctionMapperImpl.Function throws a NPE in certain circumstances

   Summary: FunctionMapperImpl.Function throws a NPE in certain
circumstances
   Product: Tomcat 6
   Version: 6.0.14
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: Windows Vista
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: P2
 Component: Servlet & JSP API
AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

In FunctionMapperImpl.Function it is possible for writeExternal to fail if the
class has just been de-serialised and is then serialised again.

If you look at writeExternal:

   public void writeExternal(ObjectOutput out) throws IOException {
  out.writeUTF((this.prefix != null) ? this.prefix : "");
  out.writeUTF(this.localName);
  out.writeUTF(this.m.getDeclaringClass().getName());
  out.writeUTF(this.m.getName());
  out.writeObject(ReflectionUtil.toTypeNameArray(
 this.m.getParameterTypes()));
   }

you can see that it externalises the function to be invoked by using the
reference to the Method itself.

If you look at readExternal however:

   public void readExternal(ObjectInput in) throws IOException,
 ClassNotFoundException {

  this.prefix = in.readUTF();
  if ("".equals(this.prefix)) this.prefix = null;
  this.localName = in.readUTF();
  this.owner = in.readUTF();
  this.name = in.readUTF();
  this.types = (String[]) in.readObject();
   }

You can see that it doesn't restore the Method after deserialisation. The method
is restored if it is accessed, however if it's not and then serialisation is
performed writeExternal will throw a NPE (as m is still null).

The fix is to either get the method to be reconstructed as soon as
deserialisation completes - or perhaps to be a bit more efficient, in
writeExternal change it such that if m is null it externalises using the
components of the method:

   public void writeExternal(ObjectOutput out) throws IOException {
  out.writeUTF((this.prefix != null) ? this.prefix : "");
  out.writeUTF(this.localName);
  if (m == null) {
 out.writeUTF(this.owner);
 out.writeUTF(this.name);
 out.writeObject(this.types);
  } else if (this.m != null) {
 out.writeUTF(this.m.getDeclaringClass().getName());
 out.writeUTF(this.m.getName());
 out.writeObject(ReflectionUtil.toTypeNameArray(
this.m.getParameterTypes()));
  }
   }

this is already in trunk, is that what you meant?

Yes. I was assuming that 6.2 will be generated from 6.0.x rather than trunk
but I don't think we ever decided how we were going to move to the next
release.

+1 (sic).

A 6.x light edition is a very good idea
