Re: [RESULT][VOTE] Apache TomEE 8.0.8

2021-09-15 Thread Jenkins, Rodney J (Rod)
Jon,

The DockerHub folks did not like me removing the keys, so I added them back.
However, they also provided a different server to pull them from which is far
more stable. So, I have a new PR that needs to be approved.

However, that leads to two additional problems:

1) Richard's key is missing " Key fingerprint =" in front of his key in the
KEYS file. I had to add that manually.

2) David's key he used for TomEE 9.0 is not in the public key servers.

The first is a minor issue, the second will become show stopper for a 9 full
release. I am not even sure they will 9.0.0-M7 without the key. We will see.

Please approve this PR:
https://github.com/tomitribe/docker-tomee/pull/53

Thanks,
Rod.

Re: [RESULT][VOTE] Apache TomEE 8.0.8

2021-09-14 Thread Jenkins, Rodney J (Rod)
All,

I have posed 8.0.8 to tomitribe/docker-tomee

A few notes about this release..

1) I had to move away from the keys. I just could not get them to test. We
are now verifying with the sha512 file.

2) Can we please be consistent on how we produce the sha512 files?

8.0.6 file looks like this:
3e8fcaf50362169808f1dd09bcf844c642c2251a3a725c58100066500aa482d4c23a3c027c52178dc6a92b648f75b53106a9efdffc6e39918c7fa2e86c058bf7
8.0.8 looks like:
5a54e24400211f6ef6e48415713996fd5e89da1d5ad29f0e12202b685821245a9d600b4f0ad30539a479a8a8129fad9f7cfb2f3c8232178c42a39e2b9a84a5dd
  apache-tomee-8.0.8-plume.tar.gz

I do not really have a preference. My only preference is we be consistent on
how we release these file. If these change, then I have to alter the
Dockerfiles on each release. Also, can we be consistent across versions.
9.0.0-M7 follows the same convention as 8.0.6.

Jon,
Can you have a look at the PR,
https://github.com/tomitribe/docker-tomee/pull/52. When that gets approved, I
will get the official images repo updated.

Thanks,
Rod Jenkins

Re: [RESULT][VOTE] Apache TomEE 8.0.8

2021-09-13 Thread Zowalla, Richard
Hi Thomas,

looks like it is available via Maven Central but the distribution zips
/ tar.gz are not yet synced to the dl-cdn (+ archive). Perhaps an
additiona step is needed?

The related page update is available as a PR [1], which can be merged,
after the files are available.

Gruss
Richard

Re: [VOTE] Apache TomEE 8.0.8

2021-09-07 Thread Jean-Louis Monteiro
As a side note, Jon triggered a TCK run for EE8
Here is the page for the results
https://tck.work/tomee/build?id=1631005750274

Some of the failures are known because they aren't good and got excluded in
EE9. SO totally fine if they fail (we can also exclude them).
JSONB and JSONP I'm surprised. Maybe a dependency issue because I got them
100% passing for EE9 with Jonhzon.

JSF, JAXRS, we probably need to have a look if we can fix them.
Servlet, and WebSockets are probably setup issues or Tomcat gaps that got
fixed in Tomcat 10.x

Re: [VOTE] Apache TomEE 8.0.8

Hi all,

+1 (non-binding)

Tested in several projects (primarily web services, JAXB, REST…),
both on Linux & Mac OS, each under AdoptOpenJDK 11 (latest).

The change has been introduced in Java version 16+

See https://openjdk.java.net/jeps/396
and https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8256358

JEP 396: Strongly Encapsulate JDK Internals by Default (JDK-8256299
) core-libs

Strongly encapsulate all internal elements of the JDK by default,
except
for critical internal APIs <
https://openjdk.java.net/jeps/260#Description>
such as sun.misc.Unsafe. Allow end users to choose the relaxed strong
encapsulation that has been the default since JDK 9.

With this change, the default value of the launcher option
--illegal-access
 is
now
deny rather than permit. As a consequence, existing code that uses most
internal classes, methods, or fields of the JDK will fail to run. Such
code
can be made to run on JDK 16 by specifying --illegal-access=permit.
That
option will, however, be removed in a future release.

For further details, please see JEP 396
.

You need to add --illegal-access=permit to your surefire configuration or
add it to your JVM options.

Hello again,

Of course my vote related to TomEE 8.0.8 experiments with Java 16 is
not blocking the release since it's not a binding vote.
I continued my tests and I found no regression with TomEE+ 8.0.8 with
IBM Semeru Runtime 11.0.12 (new name for AdoptOpenJDK OpenJ9) with a
app which relies on JAX-WS / JAX-RS / JMS & Websockets.

With Java 16 runtime, I have this annoying exception in catalina.out
when I use the embedded ActiveMQ for JMS purposes:

It's not blocking the JMS requests from executing.

Bbut accumulating exceptions in logs is not something we appreciate,
since we have alerters on exceptions rates in production, so I hope
that issue (which is not new with TomEE+ 8.0.8, same issue with 8.0.6)
will soon be fixed, again having in mind that Java 17 LTS availability
is getting close...

Hope it helps,

Re: [VOTE] Apache TomEE 8.0.8

2021-09-02 Thread Alex The Rocker
Alright so my vote is [+1] non-binding for TomEE 8.0.8 based on my
tests (I doubt the fix for activemq exception can be in time for
8.0.8, let's keep this one for 8.0.9...)

You need to add --illegal-access=permit to your surefire configuration or
add it to your JVM options.

Re: [VOTE] Apache TomEE 8.0.8

2021-09-02 Thread Alex The Rocker
Hello again,

Of course my vote related to TomEE 8.0.8 experiments with Java 16 is
not blocking the release since it's not a binding vote.
I continued my tests and I found no regression with TomEE+ 8.0.8 with
IBM Semeru Runtime 11.0.12 (new name for AdoptOpenJDK OpenJ9) with a
app which relies on JAX-WS / JAX-RS / JMS & Websockets.

With Java 16 runtime, I have this annoying exception in catalina.out
when I use the embedded ActiveMQ for JMS purposes:

02-Sep-2021 12:50:33.955 SEVERE [ActiveMQ Task-1]
org.apache.activemq.util.IntrospectionSupport.setProperty Could not
set property host on Socket[unconnected]
java.lang.reflect.InaccessibleObjectException: Unable to make public
void sun.security.ssl.SSLSocketImpl.setHost(java.lang.String)

org.apache.activemq.transport.failover.FailoverTransport$2.iterate(FailoverTransport.java:149)

 at
java.base/java.util.concurrent.ThreadPoolExecutor$Worker.run(ThreadPoolExecutor.java:630)
 at java.base/java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:883)

It's not blocking the JMS requests from executing.

Bbut accumulating exceptions in logs is not something we appreciate,
since we have alerters on exceptions rates in production, so I hope
that issue (which is not new with TomEE+ 8.0.8, same issue with 8.0.6)
will soon be fixed, again having in mind that Java 17 LTS availability
is getting close...

Hope it helps,
Alex

@Alex fyi: attachments (.java) are not forwared to the mailing list.
Might be better to create a jira and attach it there.

Personally, I agree with Thomas regarding J16+

Re: [VOTE] Apache TomEE 8.0.8

2021-09-02 Thread Alex The Rocker
Hello,

[-1] (non binding) if Java 16 compatibility matters

Indeed, I have ran Arquillian tests with TomEE embedded 8.0.8 and:
* Arquillian's Basket & Order tests are OK with Java 16 runtime
* My own test of a JAX-RS end point fails with attached exception stack

Tested class is AboutService.java (attached too)
Test class which fails is AboutServiceTest (attached too)

With Java 17 availability targeted end of this month, it would be nice
if that kind of reflexion issue found with Java 16 could be fixed
before 8.0.8 is released (if that's not too hard), to give more
changes to have a smooth Java 17 (Long Term Support version)
transition...

I'm still in progress with other tests

Kind regards,
Alex

Re: [VOTE] Apache TomEE 8.0.8

2021-09-02 Thread Alex The Rocker
Hello,

Thanks for this new release candidate, I'm going to run tests and
provide my vote when done.

I had a look to release notes, and I am surprised to see only one
reference to a fixed CVE.
I guess that Tomcat dependency upgrade is fixing more CVEs than
[TOMEE-3768] , but it's not explicity listed in the release notes.

Would it be possible to add a "Security" section to the release to
list of CVEs fixes since last TomEE release?

This is especially important for IT people is charge of keeping
prerequisites such as application server, proxies, etc as up to date
as possible with regard to know security breaches.

Kind regards,
Alex
