Varnish Support in Traffic Control

2023-07-07 Thread Abdulrahman Elawady
Hi everyone

I wanted to discuss adding support for Varnish to be used as a cache server
in Traffic Control as another option besides Traffic Server. Varnish Cache
offers great performance, robustness and modularity and is widely used. The
changes with this project should not affect existing components but will be
implemented separately. The aim is to have the same functionality of the
configuration generated for Traffic Server generated for Varnish to operate
somewhat similarly.
The Blueprint link for more details about the changes:
https://github.com/apache/trafficcontrol/pull/7620

Also, this is part of this year's Google Summer of Code project. So, a
timeline for some of the changes is documented here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UU8b5kIqzhtGpb6GpwoIBwFcMxc4pa1DAAXHlEO171Y/edit?usp=sharing
Since the changes do not fit in a GSoC project only parts of it will be
implemented during GSoC and the goal is to finish with a proof of concept
of Varnish working as a cacher server.
Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions regarding the timeline
or if I should focus on some parts of the changes for GSoC.

Thanks!
Abdulrahman
