I'm guessing it would be something like this.

List My Applications -> Choose an Application and click "Add APIs" ->
Search for APIs and select the ones to be added to the App -> Commit.

But what we have seen from real customer usages is, this is a process that
takes time.
First you create a skeleton API & then start working on more time consuming
this like editing documentation, logo creation, samples under that API.

And the API actually gets published only after all those required tasks are
met.

Re: [Dev] API-M: What is "Callback URL" in Add Application page

2013-03-27 Thread Johann Nallathamby
Hi,

This is the Callback URL used for Authorization Code and Implicit grant
types. This is the URL the user will be redirected once the authentication
and delegation is successful. Typically there would be one Callback URL per
app.

The help text could read something like,
"The URL to which the user's browser will be redirected once authenticated
and delegated"

Then the UI is not intuitive, because, after clicking create, you feel that
everything is completed. If the user has to add docs etc. this should be a

Normally after a user creates an API he would want to get it reviewed,
attach documentation to it, etc. This is why it is not published just after
it is created.

[Dev] API-M: Usability improvement: Confirm API publishing soon after it is created

2013-03-27 Thread Afkham Azeez
Is there any specific reason for an API not to be published soon after it
is created? Isn't it the case that most of the time the publisher would
want to publish the API as soon as he has created it?

If that is the case, after the user clicks the "Create" button, it will be
nice to see a message such as "The API has been created. Do you want to
publish it? (y/n)".

I am raising this because several times, I created APIs, and then went to
the store only to realize that it is not listed because I forgot to
navigate to "Lifecycle -> Publish".

While specifying URLs, it is now accepted that http:// will be appended if

[Dev] Issue with a load test with AS 5.1.0 and BAM 2.2.0

2013-03-27 Thread Jorge Infante Osorio
Hi folks.
I donĀ“t have internet connection to post this question in stackoverflow.
Sorry for that.

During a load test in AS 5.1.0 with a data service and the AS service agent
sending events to BAM 2.2.0 I see this errors (without BAM the test pass
successfully):

Hi Nuwan,

It is the "ReadOnlyLDAPUserStoreManager" that you need to use for read only
access to AD.

Thanks,

My configurations is,

true

Even though the readonly property is true, I can add new users to the AD. I
am testing in multiple user store mode with AD as the secondary store.

[Dev] API-M: make it easier to install samples

2013-03-27 Thread Afkham Azeez
Currently, you ned to;
1. Go to bin, and run ant
2. Go to, samples/Data, and run ant
3. Run the sample setup script

The sample setup script can simply handle steps 1 & 2. So we can cut down 2
steps.

+1. If there was no Try Me, I would have gone back to reading the

Can you take a look at Chrome REST Console. I find it easy to use. We can
adopt it for Try Me.

No it is not sufficient. Once you add an application, it appears on the
list at the bottom part of the page. Add application should be a wizard.

Step 1: Define application name
Step 2: Select tier - this page needs to contain briefly what each tier
provides, features/limitations etc.
Step 3: Add APIs to Application
Step 4: Generate keys

The user experience should be smooth & unbroken. This is not just a problem
with API-M UIs, but may of our other UIs as well. We need to make an effort
to improve these aspects, and such small improvements will go a long way.

Re: [Dev] TwitterSearch sample - API "Try Me" does not work?

2013-03-27 Thread Paul Fremantle
I agree with Azeez that this is an ease-of-use problem. In fact I will say
it is *worse* to have a UI that doesn't act intuitively than no UI at all.
If there is no UI, then the dev will craft a curl command and it will
probably work!

Re: [Dev] TwitterSearch sample - API "Try Me" does not work?

2013-03-27 Thread Afkham Azeez
What I'm asking is, can we give the "Production URL" as "
http://search.twitter.com/search.atom"; instead of "http://search.twitter.com";.
That way, in the Twitter Search sample, the user does not have to add the
search.atom part. Will that work?

I didn't add the search.atom part. I was expecting an experience similar to
the Services Try It UI, where we need to provide only the payload. The UI
did not show any error either. So the bottom line is, you will/may need to
add parts to the API URL for try me to work?

What if the API was created, it contains the search.atom part as well?

 Azeez,
Your suggesting a UI enhancement. right?
This means with in application view, we should provide some means of
searching for APIs, then select version.

I guess,if there's a link available in Applications page pointing to
APIs page with some indication similar to to 'select APIs from browse APIs
page' will be sufficient..As APIs page already providing
 browse/search/subscribe to APIs..

[Dev] APIPopulator.sh - show final status

2013-03-27 Thread Afkham Azeez
After running these scripts, it is a bit confusing because you don't
exactly know whether it worked or not. By checking the exit status of curl,
for example, you could print "Successfully added API"/"API addition failed"
or something like that.

Yes, that is correct. My concern is, once you create an Application, you
are lost because the flow is broken. You have to start a new flow by going
to APIs, and then associate an app with the APIs.

you need to first create an application. I was lost for a few minutes after
creating the app. What next? Then I fiddled around and found that I can go
to APIs and then select the API and add then add it to the app. That is
certainly useful if you are following the API-first Approach. I am also
saying that you should support the Application-first Approach.

I'm guessing it would be something like this.

List My Applications -> Choose an Application and click "Add APIs" ->
Search for APIs and select the ones to be added to the App -> Commit.

Thanks,

Azeez,
Your suggesting a UI enhancement. right?
This means with in application view, we should provide some means of
searching for APIs, then select version.

Do you mean list all available APIs inside application and let user to
select(or tick) them? Normally most users come API store to find necessary
APIs for their apps. Once they selected apis, they bundle them into
application.

Thanks.
Sanjeewa.

[Dev] Usability improvement for API-M subscription

2013-03-27 Thread Afkham Azeez
Right now you have to navigate to an API, and then associate it with an
Application. Edit Application only allows you to change the name & tier.
IMO, it is more natural to create an application, and then add APIs to that
application, rather than navigating to the API & then adding it to the app.
