ckeditor disappears after a page reload

Issue Type:

Bug

Assignee:

Created:

29/Apr/14 9:36 PM

Description:

You can test this on demo.magnolia-cms.com

1) Log in as superuser
2) Navigate to a page with rich text content, eg /demo-project/about/subsection-articles/large-article
3) Edit some rich text, eg Content -> Text and Image 1
4) The edit dialog will open, ckeditor will be visible.
5) With the dialog open, hit shift-reload in your browser
6) The page should reopen, only this time the ckeditor will not be visible

If the editor dialog doesn't open, reopen it by editing the component. ckeditor will not be visible.

This is reproducible on FF, Chrome and IE.

The same problem occurs when the ckeditor is used in detail subapps.

Description:

I've discussed some changes to the Apps screen with Pascal lately. One thing we'd like to see is a clearer distinction between apps for editing content (typically content apps) and apps that publish such content.

More specifically, I propose we change the Apps screen in two steps to realize this idea:

Add example content apps for "News", "Products", maybe "Events", while still keeping the "Contacts" apps. The content of these apps must be used by the demo project in order to unleash its full potential.
Assemble content apps under the "Edit" group and add a second group (e.g. "Site" or "Gather/Collect/Assemble") for assembling such content on "Pages" using "Assets".

The attached, two screenshots show both steps.

We originally wanted to introduce such a change with 5.3, but the feedback I got was consistently sceptical to right out negative. The distinction between "page" and "non page" apps seems to feel too artificial still.

I've thus decided to split this idea off the rest of the changes (mentioned in MGNLUI-2843) and only introduce them once we have a clearer idea about and an explicit focus on content pools and content apps in one of the releases following 5.3.

My gut feeling also tells me that especially the second change would be best done once we add "virtual trees" to represent sites.

We're currently only able to select a background color for group tiles. We should also be able to choose a color for any text inside a group tile.

This is actually a requirement if we want to use the light green group color, which doesn't work with a white text.

It seems that the names of apps and groups on the Apps screen are all escaped: I can't seem to use , unicode characters or r and the like to force the rest of a string to flow to a new line.

It starts become necessary to support any such newline character. Which one, I basically don't care. It's quite difficult to come up with meaningful and short names and the inability to properly split them between lines starts to be a burden.

Description:

I've discussed a rearranged Apps screen with Pascal in order to better promote personalization as a new feature when we release 5.3.

The current layout chooses a different approach: it positions personalization as an every-day feature and thus spreads its apps among the existing groups. We'd like to change that and assemble all personalization apps under a single app group. That will put more emphasis on the new feature and positions personalization as an additional set of tasks you perform on content when putting it online.

At the same time, we're also going to rename some of the apps and groups to make them more expressive. This may actually require some code changes as well.

The attached screenshot shows the desired end result. It's an intermediate step towards more changes planned later on to better promote content apps and the content pool in a follow-up release.
