SMPP Limitation

2002-10-28 Thread Cipher Strength

HI all,

MY SMSC provider told me that. In SMPP there is no windowing support. After
sending a message my application should give delay for 15 seconds. In which
acknolgdment will be received , before sending another message otherwise the
first message will be discarded( not sent to mobile). Is there really such
with SMPP. I have doubts cause this can make SMPP slow

Kindly comment on that

Thanks for reply. MY SMSC is of CMG. Do u think SMPP is not implemenented
properly.I have checked all SMPP options and there is no such option by
which kannel give delay wait for acknolgement etc.

CIPHER

Hi

We have seen providers who do this if the messages are all to the same
MSISDN. Also I have run across a bunch who claimed to have an SMPP server,
except that it wasnt asynchronous, and one has to wait for a submit_sm_resp
before sending the next message, but this is not correct according to the
SMPP specs.

Thanks for reply. So u think its SMSC problem.

One would figure that the SMSC is buffering messages under
  high load,
either because of Kannel not responding fast enough or
  because of some
logic in the SMSC. all in all, I don't think its a weird
  behaviour and I've
seen it in quite a few SMSCs.

HI All,

Message buffered in SMSC before received on Gateway during

could be the reason for that. Hence messages were recieved
late on gateway.

SMSC = CMG

through put implemention in Kannel for EMI2

2002-09-11 Thread Cipher Strength

Hi All,

I configured throughput msg/sec for emi2. I set throughput = 2.One thing, I
noticed that kannel set messages in burst and then gives delay. I was
asuming that kannel would exactlty sent 2 msg/sec but it
is in burst.I hope that this feature was implemented in kannel in the better
way that could be possible and do not affect SMSC performance. My concern is
that is there any affect on SMSC due to bursting of messages.I used
development release 1.6.

hope to listen from somebody soon

Attached is my almost final version of an init script for Kannel. it
works on Mandrake and RedHat, but as it only depends on BASH, it should
work anywhere where there's BASH 2 or greater.

How to use it - and modify the configuration at the top of the file
(wapbox is commented out, so be sure to uncomment it if you want it).
programs are listed in the order they are invoked at start, and are
stopped at the reverse order.
call the script with 'start' to start all the programs, with 'stop' to
stop all the programs and with 'status' to see if the programs are up or
down.
If a program crashes for any reason, the script will restart it
automaticly, but in case of major trouble (the runner functions crashing
too, for example. not that I can imagine why that would happen), I
suggest running a cron job which calls the script with the parameter
'check' that will cause the script to check the status of the programs
and restart everything if needed.

This script is chkconfig ready.

Enjoy.

What is the better way to shutdown kannel. I have compiled
  it with --enable
start-stop deamon it works on my testing machine but on
  production server
kannel not stopped.(ppl already repoting bug)

Also if i restart kannel by killing bearerbox smsbox
  automatically kills. so
is it right how it should be done

I second, third, and fourth that question!

I also note that Oded is working on a script to work
around the problem, but nobody seems to be working
on finding the bug or fixing it. What gives?

This is not a very common problem, AFAIK, but Linux does have a limit on
the maximum number of files that can be opened at the same time.
Are you able to reproduce that problem ? did it occure while the
computer was heavily loaded ?
My suggestion would be to use a recent Linux distribution, sporting a
2.4 kernel (being that RH62 is almost 4 years old, I wouldn't suggest
installing it to anyone for any reason, anyway).

Coreaccess Log Parser

2002-04-18 Thread Cipher Strength

Hi All,

Is there any Coreaccess Log parser. If some body had make it, can share it
with me. Currently i am using GREP unix command to parse log file or by
inserting the Log file in DATABASE.

Also if i want to make a pull service but not use any keyword neither
default service any soloution?(might look funny). Also in every pull mobile
can be unique can we get some thing more unique example if messages are
sent to mobile from two web user and mobile user reply to it, how to
distinguish to whom web user the message should be sent.

Which version to use between these two Daily CVS or Development Release
1.1.6

Do you know ari-yahoo text mode client ?

Now, search for a non-ncurses version (or remove ncurses from it) and
play with pipes ;)

I have an yahoo.php that receives from kannel and injects in a file
( file).

Then, when I do a login, I launch in background (inside that yahoo.php) the
following:

tail -n 0 -f file | ari-yahoo | yahoo2.php

The tail will read from the file and inject in ari-yahoo, and last
yahoo2.php (that one is
runned like a cgi, but it could be perl or even shell) interpret the output
of ari-yahoo
and will do another get back to kannel (lynx?)

Of course this is an huge patch, but it works.

I do have login/logout, query nick, mesg nick and aliases
when a user gets online/offline, I receive a flash message (thats why I
said
that I send
a SMS to my application and it replies back with +- 10 msg, if there is 10
users online)
When I do a q nick, that nick is selected and later I just have to write
text
I can set my status but I'm still missing reading other custom status (i
can
read the idle,
busy, etc), but that's missing from ari-yahoo itself :(

I'm now dissecating the yahoo protocol (v2.0) and doing a perl daemon.

Unicode is currently very module dependant - some implement it,
while
some not. Kannel itself handles unicode properly (if not they way I
would have liked it to :-), and I've successfuly used Kannel to
sent
hebrew, russian and chineses text messages. bear in mind that
unicode
messages are limited to 70 characters. I do not know how Kannel
handle
messages longer then that limit, as I haven't tested that, but I
  suspect
it may not behave properly and it is on my todo list to check and
fix
that if needed.

That is a Yahoo application backend for Kannel, not an SMSC backend to
Yahoo (not that I know why such a thing would be interesting). it's also
easy to create an application backend to interface with ICQ or Jabber or
whatever, using one of the freely available libraries.

Can some body explain me in details what it really means. In which
Scenrio
 they should be used

 %q like %p, but a leading `00' is replaced with `+

What is the advantage of replacing 00 by + ?

+ is the GSM placeholder international access code. in most countries this
is equal to 00. So replacing makes sense if you want to unify the phone
numbers, especially if some SMSC are unable to send the + sign but instead
send 00 but you have other connections where you get + instead.

 %n the sendsms-user or sms-service name

 What is this for?

It represents the service name in your config.

I want a parameter other than %p which is unique for every pull

Every pull is unique by itself. So what are you looking for? You wont
receive any other request following so its always unique.

I've tested now, and it's working ok.

Why shouldn't it ? ;) Would I forget the concatenation ?

Don't forget that unicode is almost like binary concatenation, plus the
caring of
not breaking the last char...

Unicode is currently very module dependant - some implement it, while
some not. Kannel itself handles unicode properly (if not they way I
would have liked it to :-), and I've successfuly used Kannel to sent
hebrew, russian and chineses text messages. bear in mind that unicode
messages are limited to 70 characters. I do not know how Kannel handle
messages longer then that limit, as I haven't tested that, but I suspect
it may not behave properly and it is on my todo list to check and fix
that if needed.

Real computer scientists despise the idea of actual hardware. Hardware
has limitations, software doesn't.
It's a real shame that Turing machines are so poor at I/O.

Can some body explain me in details what it really means. In which Scenrio
they should be used

%q like %p, but a leading `00' is replaced with `+

What is the advantage of replacing 00 by + ?

%n the sendsms-user or sms-service name

What is this for?

I want a parameter other than %p which is unique for every pull
