[PATCH] custom access-log format
Hi list, the attached patches is a feature add in terms of customizing the access-log format for bearerbox. This will allow to use custom format access-log lines using escape codes (commonly known from the sms-service groups). Here are the changes: * gw/bb_alog.c: handles the custom bearerbox access-log formating * gw/bb_smscconn.c: moved log_sms() to gw/bb_alog.c:bb_alog_sms() * gw/bearerbox.h: added bb_alog_ prototypes * gw/[sms|wap]box.c: harmonized access-log config directive reading * gwlib/accesslog.[ch]: alog_open() changed to indicate if markers should be written to access-log file. If no markers are set, then the default timestamp prefix is not written, allowing users to individually set the timestamp in their custom access-log format. * gwlib/cfg.def: added config directives 'access-log-time' to indicate if localtime or gmt should be used within access-log, 'access-log-format' holding the escape code formated line to log, 'access-log-clean' (boolean) indicating if standard markers shoould be avoided and hence the access-log should be "clean". yep. All split message parts should go throuigh that specific smsc-id.
If they don't then this can be considered as a bug.
Please add a bug report to http://bugs.kannel.org/ and include some
bearerbox/smsbox log lines to show the behaviour. The better you
describe, the faster we get it fixed. Thanks in advance.

Hi list, just made some benchmark testing on the new custom access-log formating. Seems the escape code parsing and Octstr appending is reducing general performance by bearerbox by a factor of 3. Which is in some sense un-acceptable. So be warned in case you need something realy fast. Alex proposed we should use a memory buffer in stack to reduce memory acollation while processing the escape codes. I was wondering if there are some data structure beasts that can "pre-compile" such an escape code sequence (in terms of a regex) and latter only apply the fields to the positions rather then interpreting and parsing the whole log-format line for each SMS time and time. Suggestions welcome... [RFC] EMI/UCP OP/31 while binding without OP/60
Hi list, the current EMI/UCP module does not send any OP/31 (see spec, section 4.6, p. 19) PDUs to the SMSC in case the emi group has no smsc-username defined. The reason for this is the semantical clash about having to insert the mandatory field AdC (address code of SMT) into that PDU and if no smsc-usename is defined there is no such thing?! Anyway, according to the spec it is not "forbidden" to send OP/31 PDUs if no explicite "login" via OP/60 has been given. I'd like to add this (which is a minor change). The only problem is the question: what should be send as AdC in the OP/31 PDU, since this is a mandary field? Any hints or suggestions would be highly appritiated. Hi list, as I stated a couple of weeks ago my personal working environment has been taken on a forced travel to Timbuktu (or some other place far far away from IP world ;) and I tought my sqlbox implementation (at least the first scratch) would have been lost. Refound the source on our REFPOOL WAP gw machine ;) The choors shiming: HAALELUYA HAALELUYA!! ;) This should go into official cvs in short period of time. @Alex (and others): putting this into cvs 'gateway' module before releasing 1.3.2 or having an "own" cvs module for it. If we consider proxying an submit_sm PDU via a chain like this: [submit_sm] -> SMPP proxy -> [Msg] -> bearerbox -> [submit_sm] -> SMPP server then I do agree to Paul that the data coding values should be transparently delivered to the submit_sm PDU that goes it's way out of bearerbox. Is it possible that we miss some other SMPP specific fields that come into account while re-converting back again to submit_sm PDU? So you are actually "stretching" the timeout values. It *may* imply that other devices would run out-of-sync if Kannel is globbing the timeouts to high. [REQ] smsc_soap.c maintainer
Hi list, Alex has introduced the new UUIDs for message IDs and there are some sections marked with #warning's in gw/smsc/smsc_soap.c, which need to be resolved. Who is currently actively using the SOAP SMSC module? It is yet not "bound" to the SMSCConn abstraction layer. He/she should resolve the #warning's and garantee that operations are doing correctly it's functions in the moduke. Please send a patch. BTW, for SOAP we can use gsoap (an SOAP C abstraction layer). I'm using this inside our mmsbox to implement the MM7 SOAP interface. It should make the SOAP SMSC more reliable and faster, because we don't have to care about SOAP/XML parsing. I have some strange effect on a Wavecom Fasttrack too. Actually I don't recall if it was the same device, but the effect was: Kannel's bearerbox could not establish communication to it, this was for cvs very late after 1.3.1. Now with 1.2.1 stable it worked. And the funny thing was: first fired up bearerbox-1.2.1, shut down and then bearerbox-cvs and then even the later worked ;) ?! Try if a 1.2.1 stable version would work with it and after that try the cvs again. Strange behaviour. there is no PANIC in the wapbox.log, so the wapbox process does SEGFAULT?! Can you please generate a core dump file and analyze it with gdb to see at which position the segmentation fault happens?! I can try to reproduce the crash on our side meanwhile... [PATCH] WAP access-log logging 502 (Bad Gateway) for HTTP requests failing
Hi list, here is a patch that will allow to log 502 HTTP response code for proxied WAP GW requests that did not have any internal HTTP response code, ie. wapbox could not connect to the port or host was not reachable. [RFC] Call for more development participation
Hi list, we expect that we have a huge ammount of people reading the list because they use Kannel actively as SMS or/and WAP gateway for their commercial purposes. Alexander and I had a couple of discussions today about how strong (or consider the word weak better) the participation in the Kannel Group is concerning bug fixing, feature enhancements and general development activities. Unfortunatly we both came to the conclussion that it is *very poor*. It's almost unacceptable that currently only a couple of people are commited to the efforts of Kannel and it's future development. We don't claim responsibility. This is still an open source project and as people can deside to contribute they can alos deside to stop contribution. This was the case for WapIT and 3G Lab (as companies) in example. But we *do claim* responsibility of parties that take the benefits of open source by monetozing the work others do for their personal use. Those people should be aware of their "responsibility" and should contribute to the benefits of their own and the benefits of those who made their initial life with Kannel easier. So please take this as moral conclussion in terms of the upcoming chrismas days and think about the ideas and roles of participation within open source software projects... to refraze it in religion words: "it's worth more to give, then to take." I have a good counter-example where colaboration in fact *did* work, even while the essential part hasn't been solved. Think of the discussion in joining the ASF as project. Andreas had concerns about this and did not give up in trying to express them and convince people about his concerns. In fact this "brainstorming" was one the last good things I remember in having a real group-orientated concensus. That's what Alex and me are missing -- active group consensus. This also includes making suggestions, makeing patches, envisioning possibilities and getting refused by the group. It's like in political life, if you're in the role of the opposition, does it mean that you stop being active, critical to the active government party "only" because you can't force changes and opinions? the best way to get this solved is having this 2 points done from your
side:
a) tell us which operator this is, so we can keep track of such
non-protocol-conform hoby SMPP server coders ;)
b) tell them that they should *change* it to make generaly implemented
SMPP clients happy.

there have been some fixexs from 1.3.1 on. Please checkout the recent
cvs head tree and try it with it. It's the most stable version
currently available.
BTW, you have to set smsc-id in your smsc group to have a working id
mapping of the DLRs while they are returned over the smsc link to
bearerbox.

Kannel is considered as SMS gateway for entities that are "not directly" GSM operators. Which means Kannel can be "bound" to several (actually a lot of ;) SMSCs and hence act as a "gateway" to the destination networks. In terms of a GSM operator itself, they do usually intercarrier routing via SS7 (which is a lower network layer). But Kannel *may* be used as intercarrier routing facility (ie. using SMPP as protocol) on the transport layer. If not, then this is the problem. Kannel has yet no own MMS encoder/decoder routines as defined by the MMSEncapsulation protocol. Which is pretty straight forward to WSP. You will have to ensure that you pass the actual MMS-encoded binary data to the PPG. I wouldn't call this strange, but "perverted". So if it is that way, then: no, Kannel does not support this. ;) You'll be on your own to get either: a) implement the UCP string encapsulation into gw/smsc/smsc_http.c for a special 'telia' type. b) tell them to give you a native UCP account and use SSL tunnel or VPN for security.
