Can anyone contact Gérard Milmeister (gemi)?

2010-06-18 Thread Chen Lei
Hi all,

Following the process

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Policy_for_nonresponsive_package_maintainers

Is someone able to get in touch with Gérard Milmeister.(gemi)

I can't find any activity of him from koji and bugzilla in the past
eight months, I also got no response from him after sending a private
mail a month ago.

See https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=530565 for more details.

Hi All/Marcos

Is Warren Togami still maintaining LTSP on Fedora? It's pretty much
broken on Fedora 13, and nobody seems to respond to bug reports.

/me is looking @ maintaining/co-maintaining the LTSP rpms on Fedora.

Any pointers for the 'Official' way to do this, please let me know.

It looks like you may a little to busy to deal with this anymore, so
I was wondering if you would like to pass the role over to me ?

I will try to keep up the outstanding work you have done for both the

lcms2 package needing a package reviewer

2010-06-18 Thread Richard Hughes
I'm asking for a reviewer for the lcms2 package:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=590387

lcms2 is going to be required by gnome-color-manager in the next few
weeks, and will also be required by the next version of imagemagick.
lcms2 is the new version of lcms, the ubiquitous color correction
library used in many open source projects.

Thanks,

Richard.

Headsup: ABI changing libebml bump coming to rawhide

2010-06-18 Thread Hans de Goede
Hi All,

A new libebml version (1.0.0) is coming to a rawhide near you. This
version properly bumps the soname as already should have been done
with the 0.8.0 release.

So all packages using libebml will need to be rebuild:
[h...@localhost ~]$ sudo repoquery -q --whatrequires --alldeps libebml
libebml-0:0.7.8-3.fc12.x86_64
libebml-0:0.7.8-3.fc12.i686
libmatroska-0:0.8.1-5.fc12.i686
mkvtoolnix-0:3.3.0-1.fc13.x86_64
libmatroska-0:0.8.1-5.fc12.x86_64
vlc-core-0:1.0.6-1.fc13.i686
libebml-devel-0:0.7.8-3.fc12.x86_64
mkvtoolnix-gui-0:3.3.0-1.fc13.x86_64
vlc-core-0:1.0.6-1.fc13.x86_64
libebml-devel-0:0.7.8-3.fc12.i686

So summarizing:
libmatroska
mkvtoolnix
vlc-core

Need to be rebuild.

Hans

This is the entire purpose of the res_init() function in glibc. If your
application needs to be aware of a change in resolv.conf, you should be
monitoring it with inotify and calling res_init() anytime the file is
changed.

I disagree that this is necessarily a bug in glibc, as it allows the
application writer to decide for themselves whether to trust a change to
resolv.conf mid-operation.

The easy fix in xchat would be to simply call res_init() immediately
before calling gethostbyname(). It would add a small amount of overhead
to hostname lookups, but it would always work. Monitoring resolv.conf
for changes would be an optimization, of course.

Ulrich Drepper always said resolv.conf updates are detected fine when
nscd is running, and that everyone should use it. There's a bug
 requesting nscd to be mandatory:
 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=565880

 Michal

NSCD should absolutely NOT be mandatory. There are many reasons not to
run it (for example, maybe you actually want your identity lookups to be
sane). NSCD provides unreliable (and occasionally unpredictable)
behavior in identity caching. This is one of the reasons that the SSSD
is being written to replace it. It is strongly advised NOT to run the
SSSD and NSCD simultaneously (Things will still run, but NSCD will be
acting as an additional cache, eliminating the predictability of the
SSSD cache)

To construct a Zope skyscraper on Fedora

2010-06-18 Thread Robin 'cheese' Lee
Hello, all!

And the foundations and first floors of this skyscraper is Zope2 and its
dependencies, which I have built up. The latest version of Zope2 is 2.12.7.

All the spec files are accessible through my git repo:
http://fedorapeople.org/gitweb?p=cheeselee/public_git/rpm.git;a=tree;h=refs/heads/master;hb=master

And an yum repo (i686 and SRPM) for F-13 is also available:
http://cheeselee.fedorapeople.org/yum/zope/

Steps to make a trivial test:
$ wget http://cheeselee.fedorapeople.org/yum/zope-cheese.repo
$ su -c cp zope-cheese.repo /etc/yum.repos.d/
$ su -c yum install zope
$ su -c service zope start
$ xdg-open http://localhost:8080/

The 'zope' package itself is most kept under the same conventions of the
legacy 2.10.x 'zope' package.

So, you can see, there are about 70 source packages to be review.

And I hope for the co-maintainership of following packages, which are
required by Zope2:
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/acls/name/python-mechanize
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/acls/name/python-transaction
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/acls/name/python-zope-interface

Problem with createrepo for modified DVD ISO

2010-06-18 Thread Digimer
Hi all,

I asked this on buildsys, so this is something of a repost. I'm not
sure where to turn at this point, so if this isn't the right list, would
anyone be able to point me in the right direction?

I've been trying to create my own (minorly) custom distro for Fedora
13. All it really is is a custom kickstart and a changed up set of RPMs.

My problem is; I've added some RPMs and removed others, so I need to
regenerate the files in dvd:/repodata to properly reflect what is in
dvd:/Packages. I've tried various incantations of 'createrepo Packages/'
but none seem to work. When I move the generated files into
dvd:/repodata, roll the ISO, burn and install, the installer complains
that the repo data is bad (sorry, I don't have the exact error at the
moment).

So then, what is the magic incantation to properly regenerate the
repodata for a modified Packages directory on a DVD?

Thanks!

That's awful. Really, really awful. Do you have any idea how many
things would need to be patched to do that? Other operating systems
handle this just fine. Asking every component to use inotify and
res_init() because the glibc maintainers apparently think a simple
stat() on a sure-to-be-in-kernel cache inode is too expensive...well,
 think about it.

Sorry, my reply was more directed against the assertion that NSCD should
be mandatory to solve this without changes to glibc. I agree that it
would be ideal for gethostbyname() to internally perform a res_init()
when appropriate.

Ok, then we agree. I don't personally care whether it's NSCD or a
magical oracle as long as our operating system's gethostbyname()
function actually functions on mobile devices. (Caching DNS would be
a huge bonus, as other operating systems do this and us not doing so

Simple perl script to demonstrate HTTP:DAV problem.

Description of problem:

The version of HTTP::DAV is old and needs to be upgraded. Specifically, a
simple login script, such as the example in the man page, will not work. If I
update to the current version on CPAN, it works fine.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
0.35-5.fc13

How reproducible:
every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. set up a web dav server. The most basic possible is just fine.
2. verify that it works with cadaver
3. change the user, url, and password in attached script to match your setup
4. run the script

Actual results:
Dies with Unauthorized

Expected results:
Logs into webdav and prints It works

Additional info:
If you then upgrade the HTTP::DAV module to 0.40 from CPAN, the script will
work fine.

Well, I definitely care that it's not NSCD, as NSCD is such a broken
caching mechanism that basically everyone turns it off in any
environment where reliable caching is needed (and is also a large part
of the reason SSSD was developed - to produce a stable cache).

If we start asserting that everyone has to use NSCD in order to get
stable gethostbyname(), then clearly someone is missing the point.

fedpkg is also a library, where all the interesting things are done in
the library, so that somebody could write a gui (or even web) frontend
for it. I'm making a strong effort to keep the separation between

Probably the question belongs on users.

I've been trying to create my own (minorly) custom distro for Fedora

I think revisor is the tool that is best for making custom install DVDs.

The path to the packages might not be correct. If relative paths are used
and the repodata directory is not related to the location of the rpms the
same way, then you could see something like that.
