It consists of a revision and extension of Bailey's earlier MPFUN package, enhanced with special IEEE numerical techniques. Features include: * Written in C++ for broad portability and fast execution. * Includes C++ and Fortran 90/95 interfaces based on custom data-types and operator/function overloading, which permit the library to be used with only minor modifications for many conventional C++ and Fortran-90 programs. * Includes all of the usual arithmetic operations, as well as many transcendental functions, including cos, sin, tan, arccos, arcsin, arctan, exp, log, log10, erf, gamma and Bessel functions. * Supports three arbitrary precision data-types: mp_real, mp_int and mp_complex. * Supports many mixed-mode operations between arbitrary precision variables or constants and conventional variables or constants. * Includes special library routines, incorporating advanced algorithms for extra-high precision (above 1000 digits) computation. * Includes a number of sample application programs, including programs for quadrature (numerical definite integrals), PLSQ (integer relation finding) and polynomial root finding. * Includes the Experimental Mathematician's Toolkit. This is a self-contained interactive program that performs many operations typical of modern experimental mathematics, including arithmetic expressions, common transcendental functions, infinite series evaluation, definite integrals, polynomial roots, user-defined functions, all evaluated to a user-defined level of numeric precision, up to 1000 decimal digits. Something (very likely GTK{2,3} but not sure at all) is stealing my mouse focus so that I cannot click anymore. Symptoms are in range from being able to click once or several times AFTER switching desktop (tag), to being able to click only with left button (with right being totally unresponsive) to not being able to click at all anymore until I kill Xorg. Killing Xorg was *the fix* -- for you to understand, after reboot I *had* to kill Xorg session three times, with spawning some GTK app in between runs so that I hit the issue and Xorg restart had the right effect. What happens now is that Xorg restart are NOT helping any more, i.e. after that it works for about 5 minutes and then it get progressively more and more wrong until I cannot click any more. My nowadays combo is Xmonad with nm-applet and some other basics plus firefox, xchat, pidgin and some gnome-terminals (and couple of other random stuff). To hit the issue is enough to spawn xchat and firefox in a clean session. I've been hitting the very same issue before when I was using Awesome WM, but I thought it was its issue so I've picked xmonad but after some time the same issues returned. So, dear Fedora community, I beg you for help. I have no idea how can I fix this, nor how can I debug it. Any help would be really welcome. Started to occur to me from time to time as well (LXDE@F18, inputs come through synergy). Last time, I think it started in connection with Firefox, and fortunately it stopped with exiting Firefox. In the meantime, the treatment was to either switch to another virtual desktop (and I am not sure if I used to right-click anything here) and back, or to right-click bottom panel. Yep, sometimes it's Firefox, sometimes gnome-terminal. In other cases it's caused by xchat. And 100% chance to stuck your mouse is to have it grabbed by qemu which then dies ungracefully (crashed; killed). sounds like a stuck grab. that can be a bug in the server or the application, but it's notoriously difficult to debug. grabs are triggered by keyboard shortcuts, popup/dropdown menus and by simple button presses (i.e. drag and drop usually triggers a grab). generally if grab is stuck, the client with the grab still receives events, so you may be able to narrow it down by clicking and hoping that _something_ responds to the click. that is the client with the grab then. Yep, it looked like intended client was overriden, at least for the part of the observed behavior. You'll have to figure out a reproducible test case because there are so many factors at play and the code is so convoluted that debugging this otherwise is almost impossible. Unfortunately. And backtracking which update introduced this issue would be unrealistically time consuming provided that the reproducer seems to be quite random. So my hope is it will go away the same way it arrived. One of possible remedies is to switch to VT{1-5} then switch to Xorg. Observed behaviour is that dzen2 panel is gone but Xmonad still works, to that I'm able to switch tags but I can't see on which one I'm located nor other provided info, BUT I can click. Then when I restart/reload WM I able to click again until the same thing happens again. I suspect that it's caused by something old-and-rotten in my .config directory or some old gconf setting that I don't understand at all. -- devel mailing list devel@lists.fedoraproject.org https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/devel Fedora Code of Conduct: http://fedoraproject.org/code-of-conduct

Yes, I am afraid I need help. I don’t understand what this is about. Probably it has something to do with the Provides: ibus-hunspell-table = %{version}-%{release} Obsoletes: ibus-hunspell-table = 0.0.6-1.fc17 Provides: ibus-hunspell-table = %{version}-%{release} Obsoletes: ibus-hunspell-table = 0.0.8-2.fc18 Provides: ibus-indic-table = %{version}-%{release} Obsoletes: ibus-indic-table = 1.3.1-23.fc17 ... lines in in the .spec file. I believe these packages are gone since at least summer 2012. They haven't been retired or blocked and get rebuilt during mass-rebuilds. So what do I have to do now. Visit above Wiki pages and retire the obsolete packages properly for Rawhide _and_ Fedora 20 (since that is still possible, too). Complete all steps as explained in the Wiki. It is important to block/withdraw the obsolete builds also from F20. For older dists, packages cannot be pulled anymore. Afterwards, fix the Obsoletes tag in ibus-typing-booster. Prefer less than over less than or equal in the Obsoletes tags. Don't use the dist tag in the specified version-release values. Specify the _next_ Release value that is higher than the Release prefix of the last published build. If not doing that, even a minor update for the old dists would break the Obsoletes tag. Add only a single pair of Provides/Obsoletes per package. The following would be safe, provided that the packages get blocked from F20: Obsoletes: ibus-european-table 1.1.6-5 Obsoletes: ibus-hunspell-table 0.0.8-5 I offer to send you a full cleanup patch for current git, after you manage to retire and block the obsolete packages. -- ms -- devel mailing list devel@lists.fedoraproject.org https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/devel Fedora Code of Conduct: http://fedoraproject.org/code-of-conduct

Re: SSD caching
Things are progressing well with the SSD cache feature, so I'd like to give a brief update. dm-cache bcache - Initially both dm-cache and bcache were in scope to provide users with the SSD caching feature in Fedora 20. Both are supported by the latest Linux kernels, but unfortunately userspace tooling (lvm2) for dm-cache still requires considerable effort so focus has been te have bcache in F20. System wide or Self contained? -- For F20 the intention was to have SSD cache Self contained, and to have it System wide in F21. Looks like we're ahead of schedule! Thanks to the great cooperation of community members responsible for other Fedora packages, we may see a well integrated bcache implementation in F20. Because bcache is quite new we should however consider it Experimental! What works? --- Currently I'm running my root FS on bcache. My system runs great. Both kernel updates and other updates (in F20 updates-testing*) work without any problems. This means dat a working intramdisk is created by dracut, which in turn means that util-linux (blkid) detects bcache. To 'complicate' testing I have the root FS on lvm (which is on bcache)! And as a bonus of course I'm experiencing a nice performance :-) Because Anaconda doesn't support bcache (yet) creating a running system with root FS on bcache requires some manual work, but once it's running it's running well! *) some packages are not yet in updates testing, details below. Testing --- Thanks to Igor Gnatekno a Fedora Test day is planned 13th of october: https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-qa/ticket/415. To support this a Wiki page (work in progress) is maintained: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2013-10-13_SSD_Cache. Anybody interested in testing is welcome! util-linux -- libblkid in util-linux v2.24 will support bcache, which means that both blkid and wipefs will detect (and wipe) bcache. Currently util-linux v2.23 is available, but v2.24 rc will be in F20 (thanks Karel Zak). To test bcache I'm running a patched v2.23 that already has the planned support for bcache. bache-tools --- The bcache-tools package is available in F20 updates-testing, and seems to be in pretty good shape (thank you reviewers, thanks Hans de Goede). Currently bcache-tools includes a bcache-probe utility, but that may no longer be in the package when F20 is released because it's obsoleted by blkid in util-linux v2.24. dracut -- Dracut now has a bcache module to build initramfs(thanks Harold Hoyer). This works very well, but it currently needs the -N option. When util-linux v2.24 is released dracut will detect bcache and be able to operate without the -N option. LVM2 LVM2 does normally not accept a bcache device as PV (physical volume). A small 'one-line' patch can fix this, but the lvm2 people are working on other lvm2 stuff. I hope Alasdair Kergon will be able to get this simple change in LVM2. If not, users can manually configure LVM2 to accept bcache devices as PV by making a small change to their /etc/lvm/lvm.conf. To build a working initramfs users need to manually pass the --lvmconf option to dracut, so a kernel upgrade won't work out-of-the-box. mailto:a...@redhat.com I tested bcache by using a patched LVM2 that accepts bcache as a PV, hoping the patch will be in F20. Anaconda Currently the team is very busy getting anaconda ready for F20, and including bcache support may require considerable effort. Hopefully anaconda has bcache support in F21. Re: Dracut HostOnly or ConfigurationOnly?
On 09/09/2013 11:48 AM, Kamil Paral wrote: On 09/06/2013 10:15 AM, Jiri Eischmann wrote: Can this not be done automatically? If the system fails to boot because of significant hardware changes, it's an obvious option to regenerate initramfs. I can't image a normal user go to the rescue mode and run dracut --regenerate-all. Not that it's difficult to do it, but the discoverability of the solution is bad. This has been discussed in the past and if we are going to head down that road we need a proper end user friendly UI rescue environment for the core/baseOS which automatically scans things for problem and proposes to fix that for the novice end user. I'm pretty sure nobody is against this but as usual as someone has to do all that work... It should have been a prerequisite for dracut host-only feature. It's nonsense having an full blown rescue environment as an requirement for dracut-hostonly feature. JBG I haven't spoken about full blown. But this feature caused two things: a) performance (boot speed) went up b) robustness went down (change of hardware breaks Fedora) I might be speaking with my QA hat on, but we should really strive hard to keep and increase the robustness of our system. Before host-only initrd was approved, we should have had a prerequisite that would eliminate the biggest drawback. Especially for the general audience the current behavior is a showstopper - they are not able to invoke 'dracut --regenerate-all' after they change their hardware. The implementation is not that important, something is better than nothing. A few ideas: a) regenerate initrd automatically on every system rescue boot b) present a simple ncurses dialog on every system rescue boot, that allows the user to regenerate initrd (find new hardware) or continue booting to DE c) if a standard boot fails, or if we detect a new hardware during that boot, automatically regenerate initrd and reboot the machine Sure, those are just rough ideas, full of problematic use cases and whatnot. But some of them might not be _that_ hard to implement. And any of those would definitely be better than having nothing. Not to mention that our bright developers' minds would surely think of something even better. And that's what we should have had as a prerequisite - having _some_ solution. But we ended up as always - having a cool feature and saying RTFM! to all our general users who get bitten by it. -- devel mailing list devel@lists.fedoraproject.org https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/devel Fedora Code of Conduct: http://fedoraproject.org/code-of-conduct

Reproducible Builds in Fedora
Hi, I have been working on having Reproducible Builds in Fedora for some time. At this point, I think I have something demoable. Ensuring Reproducible Builds is a big task and I want your feedback, ideas, code and support. Please see https://github.com/kholia/ReproducibleBuilds for details. I would like to thank Debian and Ubuntu folks for starting similar projects (and inspiring this work). Reproducible Builds === It should be possible to reproduce every build of every package in Fedora. We want to be able to show that our binary was the result of our source code from our compiler and nobody added anything along the way. Can we (upstream / vendor) show that one of our rpms was built from the source we ship? It should be possible for the users to verify that the binary matches what the source intended to produce, in an independent fashion. We (the distribution provider) shouldn't be forced to say Trust Us to our users at all. Steps Involved == * Recording the build environment (DONE) - Koji does this automatically :-) * Re-producing the build environment (DONE) - Retrieve brootid (buildrootID) corresponding to the NVR we want to test from Koji (DONE) - Replicate this buildroot (DONE) - Create replica build environment using Mock (DONE) * Do re-builds locally using mock (DONE) * Verify new build against upstream (DONE, Steve's script works great) Current State = * Packages like git, john and qpdf are 100% reproducible as far as code is concerned :-) Current Challenges == See http://tinyurl.com/ReproducibleBuildsProblems * python-epydoc will add timestamps to the HTML file it produces ( needs FIXING). * javadoc will add timestamps to the HTML file it produces (needs FIXING). Update notes referring to files within the package
Hi, lately, I have seen an increasing number of update notes like this: See [some file in the package] for more information. While done with noble intentions, unfortunately, this is not of much use, because update notes are read BEFORE updating the package, whereas the file being referred to is only available (in the correct version) AFTER installing or updating the package. So please, instead of writing this, either: (a) link to a copy of the file in cgit/gitweb/ViewVC/Trac/…, if available or (b) link to a web page with the news instead, if available or (c) paste the contents of the file into the update notes.
