 Hi,

I had some news 5 days ago, he was on a professional travel in Portugal.

@Jonathan: could you answer Martin, please ?

I don't know the whole context, but I think that you - I mean both of
you - should start a thread on this list about the aforementioned
ticket. btw, please notice that through copr, you may provide
alternative versions of glfw (ie: git snapshots)

I agree, I think the right thing to do is to package latest stable glfw release
in Fedora and any unstable snapshots in a personal copr repository. People
would have to opt in for the copr repository.

Bugzilla is the preferred place for discussion about the bug I think. I am fine
discussing it here as well if needed.

[Base] Fedora Base Design Working Group (2014-07-11) meeting minutes and logs

2014-07-25 Thread Phil Knirsch

Summary:

 - moben aka Benekdit Morbach presented some of his first results of
builreq analysis and wrote a tool for that[1]. Will work with haraldh,
vpavlin and others on related topics.
 - Talked with Michal Sekletar and accepted him as a WG member. His
focus is docker and container technologies.
 - Vaclav Pavlin demonstrated the latest Fedora 20 based docker images,
only 133MB in size[2] generated via a kickstart file[3]

Lively discussion around docker, anaconda and rel-eng followed those
docker focus topics.

Mattdm then followed with 2 1/2 additional topics:

1a. Identifying different Fedora products -- fedora-release-* contents
and /etc/os-release
1b. having tools like yum and dnf talk to mirror manager in a way which
lets us count product installs

2. a generic fedora netinstall

For 1a and 1b dgilmore, sgallagh and mattdm have already done a larger
thread on fedora-devel ML to discuss the proper approach and solution.
Several ideas already in place, just need to be implemented(tm).

Some more discussions past that about 2. and related items (install
trees vs. images etc).

[Base] Fedora Base Design Working Group (2014-07-18) meeting minutes and logs

2014-07-25 Thread Phil Knirsch

Summary:

 - More status updates this week from moben, especially around some of
the first fixes that he's currently working on with upstreams.
Discussions with harald and others about various approaches.

 - pknirsch forgot that Vaclav was in London this week, so just briefly
talked about him and shared some experiences we've had with him. Will do
the proper discussion and voting next week.

I may or may not be online during the meeting, so throwing this out now. :)

Re: [Base] Fedora Base Design Working Group (2014-07-11) meeting minutes and logs

2014-07-25 Thread Mike Pinkerton

On 25 Jul 2014, at 07:52, Phil Knirsch wrote:

Summary:

Mattdm then followed with 2 1/2 additional topics:

1a. Identifying different Fedora products -- fedora-release-*
contents and /etc/os-release

As I understand it, you are trying to decide where and how to set a
flag that will signal the product that is either installed or to be
installed. There was mention of dropping product specific snippets
in /usr/lib/os-release.d/ as one solution.

Does it have to be any more complex than the approach used by
systemd? If fedora-release were to drop all product specific
snippets in /usr/lib/os-release.d/, then a system admin could use a
symbolic link in /etc/os-release.d to flag which product (or no
product) he wanted installed. Similar to:

/etc/systemd/system/default.target - /lib/systemd/system/
graphical.target

a system admin could set a symbolic link:

/etc/os-release.d/product - /usr/lib/os-release.d/workstation.product

Then, if a system admin wanted to change the box to a server, or to a
non-productized box, he could simply change the symbolic link to:

/etc/os-release.d/product - /usr/lib/os-release.d/server.product

or

/etc/os-release.d/product - /usr/lib/os-release.d/generic.product

and then run whatever product syncing tool you develop -- perhaps:

dnf product-sync

2. a generic fedora netinstall

I appreciate your continued consideration of this item. I'm not
clear on how Anaconda is supposed to work with different products,
but if it is reading whatever product flag you set in order to
determine the package list, couldn't a single netinstall CD work for
all products, as well as a generic, non-productized install, assuming
that there were a place in the UI to specify which product the user
wanted installed?

Package reviewers (and comaintainers) wanted

2014-07-25 Thread Lubomir Rintel
Hi,

I'd be very thankful if someone could help me with my review requests (I
can review a package of theirs if they need a review too).

Also, if anyone would like to (co-)maintain any of those packages (that
generally applies to all packages of mine), I'd be very glad to add
them.

Here's the list:

Self Introduction: Japheth Cleaver

2014-07-25 Thread J.C. Cleaver
Hello all,

My name is Japheth Cleaver.

I've been using Fedora (and RHL) since the early 2000's at a number of
smaller regional ISPs, and RHEL or CentOS regularly for about the last 10
years. I'm primarily involved in monitoring systems and operational
engineering at ServiceNow, where I've been at for the past several years.
My first BZ seems to have been back in 2004 (BZ#130288) and involved some
device name issues.

I've been building RPMs for internal use for at least that long, but I
feel like I'd like to begin to take a more active contributor in helping
Fedora as a project itself. I'm seeking a sponsor who would be willing to
help me through this process.

My first official package for submission is: nanomsg, a new socket library
from the authorship of ZeroMQ, which seemed to be missing from Fedora
despite its apparent growing popularity:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1123511

I'm looking forward to helping out more directly with Fedora in the future!

Regards,

Japheth J.C. Cleaver

customizing command line for Startup Applications in F21/Rawhide

2014-07-25 Thread Andre Robatino
Although gnome-tweak-tool does not allow customizing the command line for
Startup Applications, up through F20 you could use the
gnome-session-properties command (in the gnome-session package) to do this.
In F21 and Rawhide, gnome-session-properties is gone. I wanted to start a
gnome-terminal with the command gnome-terminal --geometry=80x24+0-0. By
finding the line in ~/.config/autostart/gnome-terminal.desktop

Exec=gnome-terminal

and changing it to

Exec=gnome-terminal --geometry=80x24+0-0

it does what I want. Is there a less ugly/obscure way to do this, or is one
planned?

removing dependencies on systemd compat libs

2014-07-25 Thread Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek
Hi,

a few versions ago, systemd provided libraries
libsystemd-{journal,id128,daemon,login}.so were merged into single
libsystemd.so. To provide backwards compatibility, libsystemd.so is
provided under each of the old names. This is done (*) by essentially
duplicating the code. A bunch of rpm still link to the old names, and
the time has come to move them over to the new name.

I split out systemd-compat-libs from systemd-libs today. If your
package depends on systemd-compat-libs then you should update your
linking options. It should be enough to

- when providing build flags directly, replace -lsystemd-daemon,
  -lsystemd-journal, -lsystemd-id128, -lsystemd-login (or any
  combination) by -lsystemd.

- when using pkg-config the systemd.so will be used automatically on
  rebuild, because libsystemd-{journal,daemon,id128,login}.pc files
point as -lsystemd already. So a cosmetic fix is to use libsystemd
name for pkg-config instead of the old names.

Those are small libraries, but removing the dependency will save
~.3 MB and make things slightly simpler. This is low priority, since
the compatibility libraries will continue be provided for the
forseeable future. IMHO both rawhide and F21 should be fixed.

(*) Initially, ifuncs were used to map old names to the new names,
which exposed many bugs both in ld.bfd and ld.gold, but was made to
work on i386 and amd64. Unfortunately some other archs don't have
adequate tooling support, so this turned out to be unworkable. Since
the compat libs should be used only temporarily, the brute-force
approach of compiling multiple times under different names was chosen.

Future Packager / Co-Maintainer Self Introduction Bob Lightfoot

2014-07-25 Thread Bob Lightfoot
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Dear Devel-List:
Please consider this the initial introduction of myself as a
potential/future packager / co-maintainer.
I have been lurking / using Fedora for the past 7 years when
Fedora 8 released. I switched my workstation and server to CentOS
when Fedora 16 released, but continued to assist with Fedora QA
release testing and have enjoyed working with nirik, adamw, roshi,
robatino and crew. I have personally found the tools of ffmpeg, vlc
and mythtv very useful given my busy schedule and limited time for
video entertainment.
During the recent release of CentOS 7 I noticed that these
packages were not in my usual 3rd party repo, due in part to
supporting EPEL Packages not yet being branched. This led to study of
mock / rpmbuild and eventually the Fedora Packager Page found at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Join_the_package_collection_maintainers
. I have not yet been chosen to co-maintain anything and I am not
sure what I will package if anything, but wanted to introduce so as I
monitor mailings and contribute reviews, people had some idea who Bob
Lightfoot {boblfoot} is.
   It has been some years {read 1985 - 1990} since I've used a
high level programming language {pascal, basic, rpg II} having focused
on Relay Ladder Logic and Assembly Language coding in my work life. I
recently started working more with bash script and have dabbled with
perl and python but an no where near fluent in these key languages to
date. We've come a long way since the old Trash 80's running basic,
but some things haven't changed. Write clearly and document well
never go out of style.
I hope get to know you better and be known better as I
journey into a value adding contributor.

Sincerely,
Bob Lightfoot

In case anyone should need it in the mean time, I have built this rpm from the
epel 6 version, works just fine.

Python 2.7 SSL upgrade patch available for testing

2014-07-25 Thread Nick Coghlan
PEP 466 approved bring the core Python 2 network security infrastructure
up to speed with the modern internet.

Alex Gaynor has provided a draft patch of the most complex part of that
PEP, backporting the bulk of the Python 3.4 SSL module to Python 2.7:
http://bugs.python.org/issue21308#msg223895

This is also the part of the PEP most likely to break things, so
figuring out a way to test it in Fedora before it makes it into an
upstream CPython release would be a good idea...

Cheers,
Nick.
