Fedora 21 Alpha Go/No-Go Meeting #3, Sep 18 @ 17:00 UTC
Join us on irc.freenode.net in #fedora-meeting-2 for this important meeting, wherein we shall determine the readiness of the Fedora 21 Alpha. Thursday, September 18, 2014 17:00 UTC (1 PM EDT, 10 AM PDT, 19:00 CEST) Before each public release Development, QA and Release Engineering meet to determine if the release criteria are met for a particular release. This meeting is called the Go/No-Go Meeting. Verifying that the Release criteria are met is the responsibility of the QA Team. Release Candidate (RC) availability and good QA coverage are prerequisites for the Go/No-Go meeting. This is the first time for F21 Alpha Go/No-Go we have RC available (RC1). If you want to help with RC testing, follow these instructions: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/kde/2014-September/013881.html For more details about this meeting see: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Go_No_Go_Meeting In the meantime, keep an eye on the Fedora 21 Alpha Blocker list: http://qa.fedoraproject.org/blockerbugs/milestone/21/alpha/buglist Jaroslav ___ devel-announce mailing list devel-annou...@lists.fedoraproject.org https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/devel-announce -- devel mailing list devel@lists.fedoraproject.org https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/devel Fedora Code of Conduct: http://fedoraproject.org/code-of-conduct

Amazon should remove the second intermediate, ending the path with the G5 intermediate. This will allow openssl to find the trusted root CA. Also, Symantec should reach out to all of their customers and tell them you update their configuration. I will contact them. Great! Thanks. Should I open ticket against ca-certificates to keep track about this issue? There was a short discussion here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=986005#c4 In this particular case, because it works with NSS/Firefox, the admins don't think it's necessary to reconfigure? I think it doesn't help to track the issue with this particular web site. I've been told this is a default configuration, which had been recommended by the CA to the customers for a long time, in order to achieve maximum compatibility with clients. So it's unlikely to get all sites changed, for two reasons, worry of site admins to break compatibility, and the fact that it's unrealistic to reach and convince all site admins. This means, we'll either have to find a software solution (such as getting gnutls/openssl enhanced to construct alternative chains), or wait with weak 1024-bit removals by default, until all involved server certificates have expired, which would be very unfortunate (and which might take several years, because of the transitioning trick, that causes recently issued certificates to appear to have been issued by both the weak legacy and stronger replacement root ca cert). Both openssl and gnutls fail to connect to popular sites because of that change. It should not be assumed that the users of ca-certificates are only programs using nss. [1] is an interesting read. I get the impression that certificates are being removed as long as there is a compatible replacement that NSS can validate, based on NSS's custom strategies for certificate validation. Is this claim accurate? Yes. Getting phased out old, weak 1024-bit root CA certificates is difficult work, because there are so many issued certificates that still chain up to them. If we wanted to wait for all of them to expire, it would take many additional years, until users were safe from attackers trying to generate certificates that appear to have valid signatures from CA certificates that use a weak signing key. Bridge CA certificates are a common way to enable transitioning from old CA to newer CA certificates, while keeping compatibility. Shipping intermediate CA certificates to help find software find alternative trust chain is a good solution, in my opinion, and indeed is used by upstream to clean up the Mozilla CA list, while keeping compatibility. In my opinion, if other software cannot find the alternative trust chains, that's a bug. I think it's good that we have started experimenting with these removals in the testing areas of Fedora, because it raises awareness of these issues, and hopefully can bring higher priority to getting OpenSSL and GnuTLS enhanced. But given the heavy complaints, maybe it's necessary that we delay shipping the upstream removals into stable Fedora a little longer, until we have a better solution (either by having OpenSSL/GnuTLS enhanced, or maybe by implementing a way that enables users/admins to re-enable legacy CA certificates). If the answer to that question is yes, is there anything fundamentally wrong with adding that workaround while we solve the situation in a more complete manner? I think this is a great example of the adage perfect is the enemy of the good. We have a situation that everyone seems to agree is less than ideal and we have two proposed solutions: one that probably requires only a few weeks of work and testing and one that probably requires a fundamental change to the way the system works and therefore could take years to accomplish. Ask yourself this question: are you as a user patient enough to wait for a perfect solution or are you happy with incremental improvement? Following is the list of topics that will be discussed in the FESCo meeting Wednesday (today!) at 17:00UTC in #fedora-meeting on irc.freenode.net. To convert UTC to your local time, take a look at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/UTCHowto or run: date -d '2014-09-17 17:00 UTC' Bizarrely, there were _no_ tickets with the meeting keyword in the queue, and looking at the open tickets in general, there's some old stuff to resolve eventually but right now doesn't seem to be the best time to dredge through them. There's just one new issue which was _mostly_ handled in-ticket but not completely, so we'll resolve that and hopefully this will be a nice short meeting. [Bug 1143773] New: perl update to 5.20.1-309.fc22 falls apart if perl-PlRPC was installed
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1143773 Bug ID: 1143773 Summary: perl update to 5.20.1-309.fc22 falls apart if perl-PlRPC was installed Product: Fedora Version: rawhide Component: perl Assignee: jples...@redhat.com Reporter: mic...@harddata.com QA Contact: extras...@fedoraproject.org CC: cw...@alumni.drew.edu, iarn...@gmail.com, jples...@redhat.com, ka...@ucw.cz, perl-devel@lists.fedoraproject.org, ppi...@redhat.com, psab...@redhat.com, rc040...@freenet.de, tcall...@redhat.com Description of problem: If perl-PlRPC-0.2020-16.fc21.noarch happened to be present on the system then updating perl, and all related/dependent packages, does not work as there is no way to satisfy dependencies. The package in question lists in dependencies perl(:MODULE_COMPAT_5.18.1) and that is it. Even --skip-broken does not help in any way. It appears that perl-PlRPC is no longer available in rawhide, even if it is still listed as a component. Maybe that would be not an issue but apparently nothing gets that on a list of obsoletes or removes in any other way. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): perl-5.20.1-309.fc22 Additional info: Manually removing perl-PlRPC allows an update to proceed. None of rawhide reports lists perl-PlRPC as a broken dependency. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
