I got this [1] in log of wammu-0.43-1.fc28, so in [2] line 50 you need
replace
Requires:   %{name} = %{version}-%{release}

isn't it ?

Symbol aliasing issue

2017-08-19 Thread Jerry James
Tonight I am trying to figure out why gfan failed the mass rebuild.
I'm a bit confused, so I'm writing in the hopes that one of you
recognizes what is going on.

The gfan library is linked with libcddgmp. Libcdd can be built with
or without gmp support. Polymake, weirdly, wants to link with both
versions, so libcdd is built without gmp support and libcddgmp is
built with gmp support. Polymake expects the gmp version to have
symbols that are suffixed with _gmp. Other cddlib consumers, such as
gfan, don't specify whether they want the gmp or non-gmp versions, and
expect the symbols to be the same in either case.

To satisfy all of the consumers, and let us use the more efficient gmp
version in the non-polymake case, we build the gmp version of libcdd
with symbol aliases. The "real" names have the _gmp suffix so that
polymake can link with both versions of the library. However, we also
alias the symbol name without the _gmp suffix to the corresponding
_gmp name, for consumers like gfan.

Yes, it's a mess, but it has worked okay ... until now. On F-26 and
earlier, there have been no problems. But gfan failed the F-27 mass
rebuild, and the reason is that two of these aliased symbols now point
at stdin.

If I build the gfan binary, then run "gdb gfan", before I even start
the binary running, and therefore before any of its shared objects are
loaded, I get this:

(gdb) print _purezero
$1 = ( *) 0x94a740
(gdb) print _purezero_gmp
No symbol "dd_purezero_gmp" in current context.
(gdb) print _one
$2 = ( *) 0x94a740
(gdb) print _minusone
No symbol "dd_minusone" in current context.
(gdb) print _minusone_gmp
No symbol "dd_minusone_gmp" in current context.

Where dd_purezero, dd_one, and dd_minusone are all mpq_t variables
declared in libcddgmp. When the shared library is actually loaded,
all of the symbols resolve appropriately, except dd_one and
dd_purezero, which continue to point at stdin, with predictably
disastrous results.

I can't figure out why those two names point at stdin after the
initial load of the binary. If any of you have any clues as to what
is going on here, I would really like to know. Thank you,
--

Hi,

I pushed the changes and rebuilt the packages today.

In the process I found a significant bug:
for arch-full packages, Provides: %{oldname}%{_isa} = %{version}-%{release}
was generated, but Provides: %{oldname} = %{version}-%{release} is also

encounter an issue with some package, feel free to ping me so that I don't

Yes. But they are scripts instead of plain debug data or source
files. The *.pyc files might not be generated automatically when such
scripts are put in the automatic generated -debuginfo or -debugsource
packages. Having them in the debuginfo and under /usr/lib/debug will
prevent the debuginfo/source packages from being parallel installable
for example.

The quick workaround if you are blocked right now is to just add
%undefine _debuginfo_subpackages to you spec file. That will stop
rpm from trying to account for every file under /usr/lib/debug.
That of course doesn't fix the underlying issue of having non-debug
files under /usr/lib/debug, but gets you building again.

Long term we will have to figure out a policy to package such
auxiliary scripts.

Cheers,

Summary/Minutes from today's FESCo Meeting (2017-08-18)

2017-08-19 Thread Kalev Lember

#fedora-meeting: FESCO (2017-08-18)
===

Meeting started by kalev at 16:00:48 UTC. The full logs are available at
https://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/fedora-meeting/2017-08-18/fesco.2017-08-18-16.00.log.html
.

Meeting summary
---
* init process  (kalev, 16:00:56)

* #1737 Proposal: i686 SIG needs to be functional by F27 release date or
  we drop i686 kernel from F28 (kalev, 16:05:24)
  * LINK: https://pagure.io/fesco/issue/1737   (kalev, 16:05:29)
  * extend the deadline for three more weeks, so that we can start a
i686 SIG discussion on devel list and hopefully get a SIG formed at
Flock  (kalev, 16:11:03)

* #1760 F27 approved Changes not in MODIFIED status (considered as not
  testable)  (kalev, 16:11:26)
  * LINK: https://pagure.io/fesco/issue/1760   (kalev, 16:11:31)
  * AGREED: Include 32bit UEFI Support in F27 (+1:5, 0:0, -1:0)  (kalev,
16:19:16)
  * LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1447237   (kalev,
16:20:16)
  * AGREED: Allow Java 9 as a late exception for F27, as it's already
ready to land (+1:5, 0:0, -1:0)  (kalev, 16:23:59)
  * Modular Server work continues and we'll do another review on the
status before the Beta freeze (kalev, 16:33:32)
  * same with Flatpak and Bodhi non-RPM Artifacts as well. (kalev,
16:33:47)

* #1756 provenpackager request for junghans (kalev, 16:33:59)
  * LINK: https://pagure.io/fesco/issue/1756   (kalev, 16:34:00)
  * FESCo defers the decision for a week. We'd like to know if it would
be enough for the requester to be co-maintainer for the packages
they want to work on or if they have other needs to become a PP.
(kalev, 16:43:52)

* #1759 Approval for packaging 'xpra.socket' file  (kalev, 16:44:21)
  * LINK: https://pagure.io/fesco/issue/1759   (kalev, 16:44:21)
  * AGREED: FESCo votes on "no" to enabling xpra.socket by default. The
convenience of the user not having to type systemctl enable
xpra.socket in any way outweighs the potential risks of adding a new
network-listening service to autostart. (+1:6, 0:0, -1:0)  (kalev,
16:49:37)

* #1763 Fedora Modules Guidelines and Process (kalev, 16:50:02)
  * LINK: https://pagure.io/fesco/issue/1763   (kalev, 16:50:02)
  * We'll discuss this again next week. langdon will ask -devel list for
feedback and FESCo members will read through the guidelines as well
in the mean time. (kalev, 17:02:58)

* #1764 new orphan packages: gnome-shell-extension-sustmi*  (kalev,
  17:03:04)
  * LINK: https://pagure.io/fesco/issue/1764   (kalev, 17:03:06)
  * AGREED: Orphan all yaderv's packages (+1:5, 0:0, -1:0)  (kalev,
17:10:18)

* #1765 Proposed Fedora 28 schedule  (kalev, 17:10:35)
  * LINK: https://pagure.io/fesco/issue/1765   (kalev, 17:10:36)
  * This needs more discussion. We'll revisit again next week. (kalev,
17:15:54)

* Next week's chair  (kalev, 17:16:10)
  * maxamillion to chair next week (kalev, 17:16:39)

* Open Floor  (kalev, 17:16:47)

Meeting ended at 17:21:19 UTC.
