However, now we've started moving things like policies onto that docs
site. I also feel it bears pointing out that you can get from the docs
site to the wiki, or from the wiki from the docs site, or from either
of those things to absolutely anywhere else on the internet, with "one
click" :)

I know everyone knows I'm the #1 Wiki Fan, but I really don't grok a
lot of the justification for it being Bad. The justification I *can*
get behind is that it's a PITA to maintain, and for that I apologize to
smooge whenever I remember to ;). But I never really quite got this "oh
it's bad to have different things in one site" argument. Why is it bad?
What's the practical difference between them being there and them being
on different sites, if we still link between them and they're all
"Fedora"?

For context: I made the initial list of quick docs from the most popular
pages which seemed user-focused on the wiki. So that's how this got there.

+1

A few years ago, Mo Duffy and I identified something like two dozen totally
different ways in which the project uses the wiki, from docs to policies to
scratch pads to meet notes to QA test matrices to user pages to I don't even
remember what now but I am not making up the number.

Having this all together results in a poor user experience for people who
want to read current and authoritative docs without being one click away
from what's basically very perplexing deep-knowledge territory. So, we
decided to create a separated docs site.

Now, it very well may be that the anaconda docs shouldn't be part of quick
docs, but if it's meant to be user-facing, somewhere on the docs site would
be a good.

(snip)

> What would be the path toward bringing gradle back in F32+?

From the little experience I have with the gradle package, I think
we'd need to follow roughly these steps:

- fix the last version of gradle that was available from fedora,
before it was retired
(by "fix", I mean: be able to build, and build itself in non-bootstrap mode)
- do the same for groovy (which has a mutual dependency with gradle)
- try to update gradle to newer versions (probably by first bundling
some dependencies, e.g. kotlin)
- and after that's done, un-bundle those dependencies and package them
separately.

I think it should also be possible to pool resources with the
maintainers of gradle in OpenSUSE and maybe Mageia.

This is due to cmark bumping SONAME. I'm on it.

The problem is that MicroDNF barely works like DNF does today in terms
of basic operations, and is architecturally not structured to support
becoming the main "core" of the DNF package manager frontend.
Moreover, it does not present output in the same way that the main DNF
frontend does, nor does it handle options the same way.

A lot of how MicroDNF works will need to change to become the core of
a new DNF frontend, essentially mandating a rewrite of the
application. A rewrite is already planned, but making a rewritten
version of MicroDNF available is not planned anytime soon. The
existing MicroDNF works with libdnf from the DNF 4 stack, and that
will stay basically the same while the DNF 5 stack is being developed.

With everything else going on as part of the DNF 5 development, I do
not think this will be possible to change this unless there's more
developers to help with making that transition possible.

The same version was compiled successfully in Rawhide and in all other

Afaik, it's using the fedora flags, so `-fPIC` should already be present.

Right. To be clear, this has been the *default* in Fedora starting with

This confuses me. microdnf works today. This means that python is
*already* optional.

I believe what's being suggested is to stop duplicating microdnf
functionality in python. That way reduces code duplication, which means
there's less to maintain, test functionality between, etc..

Pat has suggested a particular way this might be accomplished (module
detection with a module providing python capability), but the details of
this strike me as less important than having fewer package managers.

Ach... you are right.

I was missing `mesa-dri-drivers` in the BuildRequires, that's why it
was unable to detect the GL in mock. The tests are running fine now.

Thanks for your help! ;D

I think the problem is not Xvfb. Xvfb creates an independent X server and the
aplication should connect to it. Hence another running X server is irrelevant.
I suspect the application rather cannot locate GL libraries in the mock
enviroment than that there was something wrong in the Xvfb. Are you sure you
build-require all the needed packages in the spec file?

By the way shouldn't you add "-d" option the xvfb-run program?

I think those options only apply to the "old-style" Kerberos
authentication in Koji (that we want to remove upstream).

The only way to affect the GSSAPI authentication that we do with
koji.fedoraproject.org is to edit [libdefaults] in /etc/krb5.conf.

I've filed two tickets to improve the UX here:

1) Remove the old option from fedora.conf:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1812702

2) Better error messages from the koji gssapi_login method:
https://pagure.io/koji/issue/2063

I think the MIT Kerberos devs realize that this is a problem too,
because there is a new dns_canonicalize_hostname=fallback option in
krb 1.18. That option will help for the general case of proxying
applications that use GSSAPI auth.

Test graphical applications using mock.

2020-03-13 Thread Aniket Pradhan
Hello Devel

I was trying to package vispy[0] for Fedora using pyside2 as the
backend. However, many of its tests work by drawing a window and so
on.
I was using Xvfb to create a buffer so that the graphical components
can be made and the tests can proceed. The spec is here[1].

However, when I use rpmbuild to do a build the RPM, it works fine on
my computer as it is able to detect the correct graphics library and
the extensions. However, when I try the same on mock, it fails to do
that.
Is there any option within mock to enable graphics (or something
similar) or is it currently impossible to test applications using GL
on mock?
