To be clear (and I know you know this, but your readers might not know),
QtWebEngine (qt5-qtwebengine) and Chromium (chromium) are distinct packages
(none of them depends on each other), each containing a slightly different
copy of essentially the same source code (plus some higher-layer code that
is entirely different: Qt wrapper libraries vs. a browser application). But
since the source code is largely the same, things such as miscompilations by
the compiler are likely to affect both the same way. And the symptoms in the
2 screenshots definitely look identical.

In some cases, the effect of this change on the work of
ProvenPackagers will be positive. Manual release bumping (because of
soname-bump or a hotfix change) is easier because you can just call
`fedpkg tag` and write a message instead of manually messing with a
spec file. And in case a script is used, then it's exactly the same
amount of work (calling the script).

Re: Packaging a go application

2020-12-20 Thread Robin Opletal

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the awesome write-up! This will help a lot.

I am unsure how I managed to miss your reply.

Cheers!

First you should use go2rpm to get the basic structure of your SPEC:

Here's one modified to work with Drew's Makefile while keeping
Fedora's flags for the binary compilation, and the handling git.sr.ht:

I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be a gcc bug.  In fact,
I've got my eye on upstream gcc bug 98366.

While I'm on PTO for the next two weeks, I'll probably be checking-in on
a few things.  If there's a good way to test this I expect I'll have a
compiler with the 98366 fix handy today/tomorrow.

There are still broken dependecies when using with Jack protocol:

# dnf install pipewire-jack-audio-connection-kit --allowerasing
--enablerepo=updates-testing

Orphaning python-pykafka

2020-12-20 Thread Andy Mender
Hello,

Recently, I picked the python-pykafka package, since it was orphaned.
Unfortunately, upon closer inspection I noticed it has been neglected quite
a bit.

During the build process, it would download several dependencies via "pip"
which were not listed as BuildRequires in the SPEC file. 3 of them are not
packaged for Fedora at all (python-xxhash, python-parametrized,
python-lz4tools), one of which is incorrectly listed in the upstream
requirements.txt file (python-parametrized exists, but the latest version
is 0.1, not 0.7 as the requirements.txt file wants).

To make matters worse, it seems like both the upstream and several of the
dependencies are dead/abandoned.

I'm orphaning the package, since it doesn't make sense to keep it.

Incidentally, there is https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/python-kafka,
which was retired, but the upstream is alive so I might pick this one up.

Cheers,
Andy

Likely, you should be using the distro flags. We have have armv7
devices that don't support NEON so we don't compile with them by
default and applications should use run time detected fast paths for
devices that support NEON.

Thanks. That was not obvious from the proposal.

I've never ran that script looking for packages that nothing depends
on, and I'm not sure I'm looking at the output correctly.
Would I look at the "FTBFS (rawhide) (not depended on) (740):"
section? Are those the leaves?

Either leaves or only needed by other leaves. If you remove the entire group at
once, there *should* be no impact outside of that group (however, conditional
requirements are not handled in a 100 % bulletproof way).

I wouldn't think that would be the problem but I do keep a lot of tabs

gfx/2d/BlurNEON.cpp error when build IceCat on ARM

2020-12-20 Thread Antonio T. sagitter

Hi all.

I can't compile IceCat on ARM-Rawhide branch (it's an issue related to
GCC-11?) because of this error:

167:32.34
/usr/lib/gcc/armv7hl-redhat-linux-gnueabi/11/include/arm_neon.h: In
function ‘poly64x1_t vcreate_p64(uint64_t)’:
167:32.34
/usr/lib/gcc/armv7hl-redhat-linux-gnueabi/11/include/arm_neon.h:6534:22:
error: ‘__builtin_neon_vcreatedi’ was not declared in this scope; did
you mean ‘__builtin_neon_vextdi’?
167:32.34 6534 | return (poly64x1_t)__builtin_neon_vcreatedi
((__builtin_neon_di) __a);

I don't know if it's caused by a compiler flag (-mfpu=neon) conflicts.

Is your system suffering from high memory pressure? Chrome disables
processes aggressively in that circumstance, and failing that,
earlyoom would do the same.

There are only two cases where this happens:

2. The browser is disconnecting and killing the memory processes aggressively

Neither of which are from Pagure's side. Do you have any extensions in

Pagure / src.fp.o page comments go "stale"

2020-12-20 Thread Richard Shaw
I've noticed for a while now that if I leave one of the above pages open
for an extended period of time that I can no longer submit comments. I just
get the cursor circle of death and it just sits there indefinitely.

I've resorted to copying my comments, refreshing the page, and then
submitting again which always works, but the question is:

Why is this necessary to begin with?

Thanks,
Richard

Re: Fedora 34 Change: Enable spec file preprocessing (System-Wide Change proposal)

I view this proposal as a risk that the spec files will look a bit more
weird, and the spec files maintenance will start diverging too much.
Everything happening for an overestimated triviality as IMO
the release/changelog is [1].

Well, even if this change is accepted, it doesn't mean people will use
the feature so if the feature is overkill or it is generally bad, it
will just die on its own.

No. In fact, even if one maintainer keep using this (e.g. you), as a
provenpackager I still need to be able to deal with that. So, while this is
"opt-in only" for the individual packagers, it impacts all our provenackagers
(and some of our downstreams as well).

As such, I think this is not worth it.
