Re: [Fedora-spins] Introducing Shells to Fedora spins community

2021-03-23 Thread Justin W. Flory
Hi Zlatan, welcome to the Spins mailing list! It is good to see you
here. Sounds like you are doing interesting work.

Out of curiosity, have you thought of using existing Fedora Spins or
Editions in Shells.com, such as Fedora IoT Edition, Fedora KDE Spin, or
Fedora i3 Spin?

For packaging help and advice, I recommend checking out the Devel
mailing list. This is the largest mailing list in the project where you
will generally find folks who are more familiar with packaging. I CC'd
the list in my reply.

Let us know if you have any questions for us, or if there is anything
you get stuck on. Again, welcome! :)

PS: This was already discussed when the GitHub project was created in 2019:
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/le...@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/MAAY3B6KUVAV7YRNUSW7G6672WUAFWYJ/
with the same conclusion. (It is not acceptable for Fedora, unfortunately.)

And, a small correction: according to the Wikipedia article:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MBROLA
the license of the software itself did actually change from a non-free
license to the AGPL when the project was imported into GitHub. But
unfortunately, the license of the data files is still a blocker, sorry.

Ugh, I missed that part. Whoops. Yeah, Kevin is right and this project
is still not permitted in Fedora.

The AGPL is acceptable for Fedora, *but*…

… MBROLA is *not*, because…

> Example license for voices:

… this license is notoriously non-free:

* It allows usage only with MBROLA:

AND
* It forbids charging for the act of distributing, even as part of a larger

and especially the latter restriction disqualifies it even for the non-free
content / binary firmware exception. Even (non-code) content and firmware
blobs *MUST* be commercially distributable to be allowed in Fedora.

This is the reason why MBROLA is not in Fedora. MBROLA is not new. It is
much older than the 2-year-old GitHub project. The license of the voices has
always been the blocker.

2021-03-23 Thread Marius Schwarz

hi,

is the license AGPL 3.0 useable in terms of distributing the software as
a package in a Fedora repo?

This project is meant:

https://github.com/numediart/MBROLA/blob/master/LICENSE

Example license for voices:

https://github.com/numediart/MBROLA-voices/blob/master/data/de1/license.txt

REMINDER - OUTAGE Scheduled for 2021-03-24 @ 1030 UTC until 2021-03-25 TBD

Hi Everyone,

Please note there will be an outage from 1030 UTC tomorrow, Wednesday 24th
March until end of day 25th March (time TBD) to facilitate the deployment
and configuration of the new Fedora Accounts system in production.

In case you missed it, some mails went out on Friday 19th March & an update
on correct dates on Monday 22nd March on what the result of this outage
will mean for you. Read them here in case you missed them
What This Means for You mail (Friday 19th March)
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/annou...@lists.fedoraproject.org/message/JGVRX7CSXSDJ2MV5TJNYPCGVWWI5XSNB/

https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/annou...@lists.fedoraproject.org/message/7GEUB2GY3JROKU3SUEECAC3JUTK7GRRD/

During this outage period the Fedora Accounts team will be working though
configuring all applications and services to connect with the new
applications. You may notice little to no disruption, however during this
period if you do lose abilities within a service or recieve an 'unknown
user' message, please wait for a few minutes to one hour and try again. You
may need to re-sign in with your password.

For any issues that persist, please dont hesitate to reach out to the team
on IRC on #fedora-aaa.

On behalf of the Fedora Accounts team, thank you for your patience and
cooperation during this final stage of the project!

Kindest regards,
Aoife

review request

2021-03-23 Thread chedi toueiti
Hi,

I have a trivial python package (re-assert) to review:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1941362

needed for pre-commit tests.

Happy to review in exchange.

Regards,

While redir (version 2.2.1) [0] is a stale project (as far as I can see), there
is a new version maintained on GitHub [1].
"Redir was originally created by Sam Creasey and is now developed and
maintained at GitHub by Joachim Nilsson."

If we assume that this redir 3.x, maintained by Joachim Nilsson is a
continuation of redir 2.x created by Sam Creasey, that is we haven't a name
conflict, I can take care of this package.

Yes, but by 1994 when linux was ported to the DEC Alpha you could see that
things were changing. So the much later is not much later than that. :-)

I have fond memories of one of those machines where running Linux there made
all the difference. :-)

The only issue that we had was that with linux 2 the network driver, a Tulip,
was removed from the kernel. OK, I could have swapped the network driver, but
by that time it was not worth anymore. :-)
