[Bug 2037243] perl-String-Similarity missing from EPEL

2022-01-17 Thread bugzilla
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2037243

Will you be able to branch and build perl-String-Similarity in EPEL?

I would be happy to be a co-maintainer if you do not wish to build it on EPEL
(FAS lcons).

There's no way to tell pagure.io "everyone in the fedora packager group
thats a manager is a admin here", so I have manually been adding any
sponsor who replies to a ticket.

I suppose if we wanted we could manually list everyone out and add them
and then add new folks as they became sponsors.

Additionally, I fear it would also leed to 'HI, make me a packager' type
tickets (with no other info). We could of course close those or ask for
more info, but then someone has to manage that.

You have already volunteered for providing the template, that should help to
solve this.

Hopefully. :)

ok. I have a first cut of a template there now.

Open a new issue and you should see it.

Happy to accept changes/additions/fixes via direct email or here.

Thank you, this is great!

Those two seem to contradict each other:

# If you are a new packager seeking sponsorship via new package or reviews
# please close this

and

# If you are a new packager seeking sponsorship after your new package
submission
# was approved, please note the link to that review and your background
here

# for sponsors to review.

For the re-reviewing of orphaned packages, I opened a FESCo ticket [1]
so it can be properly added to relevant policies, or have the decision
logged that those should not be required.

I've already reached out to Dan Horák who gave me access to a Fedora

Well, despite "not receiving updates", I was able to install the
packages I needed to test this particular issue. So I'm okay at the
moment, though still somewhat curious if I could get access.

Big Node.js jump coming to EPEL 7

2022-01-17 Thread Stephen Gallagher
Last week, I retired the `nodejs` package from EPEL 7 because it was
(I believed) stuck on Node.js 6.x due to insufficient dependency
support. Apparently, this broke a few things like uglify-js[1], so I
spent today looking into whether I could get Node.js 16.x to work (the
latest LTS release) and it turns out that I can indeed bludgeon it
into working. I have a COPR[2] with a build of Node.js 16.x for EPEL 7
available to try while I await releng unretiring[3] the package.

Please note: Node.js 16.x is a SIGNIFICANT version jump. It is very
probably that some of your Node packages may not work properly against
it. I urge anyone who is maintaining any such packages in EPEL 7 to
try them out against the aforementioned COPR prior to my building it
in EPEL proper.

Thanks for these tips.

rpm-sign complains when I use a DER-formatted key. I switched to a
regular PEM-formatted key file, and that works. Looking at libimaevm's
read_priv_pkey(), it checks for a "pkcs11:" URI, and if it doesn't
find that string prefix, it just calls fopen and PEM_read_PrivateKey.

Reading rpm_head_signing/verify_rpm.py it looks like you're sending a
DER-formatted file to "evmctl ima_verify". I guess that's where the
DER format comes in?

Something else I'm wondering: rpmsign writes those four-byte "keyid"
values to my FILESIGNATURE entries even if I don't have a public cert
at all. How does it do that? I see verify_rpm.py checks the RPM's
keyid values against the final four bytes of a sha1 of a public
certificate, but what if I haven't generated that yet?

Also, on Rawhide, rpmsign fails with an error in EVP_PKEY_sign.
Example with a random SRPM:

rpmsign --addsign --define "_gpg_name secur...@example.com"
--signfiles --fskpath privatekey.pem bash-5.1.8-3.fc36.src.rpm
bash-5.1.8-3.fc36.src.rpm:
hash(sha1): 9958fb4ee30415c75bd992982ac1463c6ff6ce739e00aaf7d7ad992feb0b40f1
sign_hash_v2: signing failed: (invalid digest length) in EVP_PKEY_sign
openssl: error:1C8000A6:Provider routines::invalid digest length
error: sign_hash failed
error: signFile failed

Since this works on CentOS Stream 9, I updated my Rawhide test
environment from ima-evm-utils-1.3.2-4.fc36 to the version in CentOS 9
Stream (ima-evm-utils-1.4-4), then rebuilt rpm-4.17.0-4.fc36 against
the newer libimaevm.so.3.0.0, and then I could use --signfiles in
Rawhide. My builds are at https://fedorapeople.org/~ktdreyer/ima/ .

I think the next step is to get ima-evm-utils 1.4 into Fedora.

ok. I have a first cut of a template there now.

Open a new issue and you should see it.

All I've looked at (besides PR101941) was
check.c:2836:58: error: '%d' directive output may be truncated writing between
1 and 10 bytes into a region of size 9 [-Werror=format-truncation=]
which boils down to roughly:
char a[16];
void f (int x, int y)
{
  int idx;
  if (y)
{
  idx = x / sizeof (void *);
  snprintf (a, sizeof a, "pv_ops[%d]", idx);
}
}
where the warning doesn't seem to be a false positive,
though perhaps it would need to be a very large module.
pv_ops[-268435456] is the longest string for lp64 and
pv_ops[-536870912] for ilp32, but even when not negative,
pv_ops[536870911] is 18 bytes including zero termination, not 16.
If you have other warnings and they seem to be false positives, please
send them to Martin Sebor.

We are seeing similar issues in a few different files depending on
arch. Largely due to options compiled in and compile order, nothing
particularly arch specific. All of the failures are with
fortify_string, some are read beyond size of object. Some are write
beyond size of object. Some are directive output may be truncated.
These kernels all build fine against f35 and stable fedora kernels
fail against rawhide, so it is definitely the toolchain changes, and
not limited to bad code brought in through the 5.17 merge window. A
good sampling of the errors can be seen in the build log for
https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=81369256 with most
arches failing in different places.

For kernel, the only bug on the GCC side I'm aware of is

I suppose I should have checked fedora-devel before trying to chase
down build failures as kernel merge window issues. Kernel builds are
failing in a few places (depending on arch).

Thank you.

I sent an email to your Red Hat account CC my Red Hat account on Jan 12th.
I also filed a PR at https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/lldpd/pull-request/6

locally:

(I saw a previous PR with a similar problem)

The loss of LSB / FHS compliance is by no means "just emotive", nor is the
consequence of probably having to adapt an unknown number of scripts, backup
routines, etc. .

As you stated in a previous post, LVM snapshot is „under-developed“ and
therefore currently not useful. Is there another snapshot & rollback tool in
Fedora repository I can use out of the box (after I moved rpm db to /usr)?
Unfortunately, I don’t know one. Currently I would have to create a LVM
snapshot and a manually crafted selective backup of files and subdirectories.
And test all the stuff. Not particularly practical.

I guess, an achievement of a truly viable snapshot and rollback system for
file-based distributions requires far a greater number of relocations than just
the rpm db. The article of a (presumably) Suse employee I’m trying to retrieve
(see an earlier post of mine) offers a proposal for this very purpose
(including a backwards compatibility link system). This would eventually end up
in an FHS 4.x.

Moving the rpm db alone adds only disadvantages to file-based distributions,
not a single advantage. And it is not neutral either.

In the end, we don't really need to do anything. If I understand correctly,
rpm-ostree is already implementing the change anyway, without any change
voting, and everyone else will continue as before, following LSB/FHS and the
current Fedora guidelines.

I see a lot of value in snapshot systems. And I see not only „some“
pressure (or better requirements) to reorganise files into different locations.
The rpm db is far from sufficient. The proposal mentioned above did exactly
that, but rpm db did not end up in /usr but together with parts of /var and
/etc somewhere else I don’t remember in detail.

And if we make adjustments to achieve a snapshot/rollback system, then we
should do it right and not stop halfway unfinished.

I'm a little concerned about what this increased writing to /usr, which many
people have on a SSD, will do. I have everything that gets written to with
any regularity on spinning disks. Everything else is SSD.

I have to agree with Chris Adams that rpms own things on many top level
directories. I have rpms that own programs/files that live on /opt and other
top level directories. I also agree that most programs cannot recreate their
directory paths and consider it's absense to be a catastrophic failure.

I also see things like kmail which uses mariadb as it's storage. It
occassionally contains migration scripts to change the format of the
database. It never has a migration script to go backwards. We do the same
thing with fapolicyd and its lmdb backing storage. We migrate forward, but we
never allow backwards migration. To roll back fapolicyd, you'd need to
snapshot /var and roll it back. But since /var has the mail spool and other
accumulated data, you'd risk losing lots of stuff if /var was rolled back.

I'd think the solution for image based distros is to put the rpmdb in /usr/
lib/rpm and bind mount it to /var/lib/rpm. Doing it this way means no changes
are needed.

Please send me preprocessed source + g++ command line, provided the warning
is reproduceable without -flto.

[Bug 2041430] [RFC] Drop support for mod_perl in F36+/EL9+

I repeatedly tried, but I have never been able to get this working and repeatly

Would it be possible for you to pass on some docs/how-tos rsp. your patches to
me?

Something for me to investigate.

All I can say for now: rt4+fastcgi had been a dysfunctional mess for a long
time. May-be the situation has changed? I don't know.

While we're at it: I am eagerly waiting for somebody to review:

These 2 block rt-5:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2016587
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2039193

And this one blocks me from upgrading perl-MooX-late (Deep in rt's dep chain).

That looks like a ceph bug.
C++ says std::unique_ptr is defined in , and while
that TU includes , it includes it only after
src/include/rados/buffer.h has on line 97+
template
struct unique_leakable_ptr : public std::unique_ptr> {
  using std::unique_ptr>::unique_ptr;
};

Most likely with earlier g++ releases you got or parts of
it indirectly from some other header.

are the standard C++ headers that are included before the std::unique_ptr
use in the source, looking at g++ 10 output seems that included
bits/unique_ptr as implementation detail.
https://gcc.gnu.org/r12-2696 removed that implementation detail.

First off, thank you Orion for all your efforts and work on Fedora and
EPEL. I don't look in Fedora as much, but I definitely do see it in EPEL,
and I appreciate it.

Second off, love your list of missing devel and how many Fedora packages
require them. That really helps give a good perspective.

Third, and perhaps most important, we have a process to fix missing -devel
packages that affect us.[1] I'm in the middle of making it it's own page,
along with examples and so forth. But here's a summary.

- Short Term: Create an -epel EPEL package that only has the
missing packages.
- Long Term: Request the package be added to RHEL 8 and 9 CRB repository.

Go to the the EPEL web page[1] for more details. Again, a better page is
coming.

Also, look in epel8 or epel9 to see if some of those missing -devel
packages are already there. For example, gsl-devel in epel9 is already
there, because someone has already started the process.[2]

2022-01-17 Thread Iñaki Ucar
FlexiBLAS is FTBFS in rawhide [1], and upstream has managed to create a MWE
that doesn't involve FlexiBLAS [2]. So it seems like an issue specific to CMake
+ GCC/GFortran 12 + CMake's FortranC Interface. Possible regression in gcc?

Your original reviewer (or any Fedora packager) can still approve the package
even though they are not a packager sponsor. You just won’t be able to import
it until you have found a sponsor. It’s normal to have one or more packages
approved before finding a

Ok, I should have known about that. So I'll remove Fedora from the conditional
to keep only EL9, I trust this should be fine with you.

Although, you made me curious so I took a look at RT doc, and there are
alternatives to mod_perl, which might be worth be looked into at some point if
mod_perl is tagged as unsupported/abandoned in Fedora.
RT 4.4 doc mentions fastcgi, while RT 5.0 doc mentions mod_fcgid.

Re: gcc-12.0.0-0.4.fc36 in rawhide

2022-01-17 Thread Ben Beasley
Skimming through Koschei, here are a sampling of regressions that seem
to be associated with GCC 12. Some of these are in packages I maintain
directly; others are via @neuro-sig.

With a few exceptions, I have triaged these only to the extent of
confirming the problem appeared at the same time as GCC 12 and noting
the initial error. I mostly haven’t gotten around to filing or searching
for bugs, upstream or downstream.

Explicit deletion of the
std::string(nullptr_t)/std::string_view(nullptr_t) constructors seems
like it is going to be a popular cause of FTBFS in C++ packages. Use of
this constructor mostly happens implicitly. I think explicit use of the
default constructor, e.g. std::string_view(), will usually be the
simplest correct substitute.

Problems in popular dependencies (boost, json, opencv) are also
impacting a lot of packages.

**Internal compiler or debugger error:**

abseil-cpp: “internal compiler error: tree code 'template_type_parm' is
not supported in LTO streams”

debugbreak: %check uses gdb, which now crashes (“(core dumped) gdb -q -x
"${exe}-rpm-test.gdb" --batch < /dev/null”) on ppc64le/x86_64, but not
on aarch64

**Compilation error from a dependency header:**

dependency “boost”: “# error "Never use directly; include
 instead."”, via
boost/multiprecision/cpp_int/intel_intrinsics.hpp

    octave-iso2mesh

dependency “boost”: “error: use of deleted function
'std::__cxx11::basic_string<_CharT, _Traits,
_Alloc>::basic_string(std::nullptr_t)” via
boost/graph/bellman_ford_shortest_paths.hpp

    python-graph-tool

dependency “json”: https://github.com/nlohmann/json/issues/3138

    dicomanonymizer

    giada

dependency “opencv”: “invalid parameter combination for AltiVec
intrinsic '__builtin_vec_sldw'” on ppc64le, in
opencv4/opencv2/core/vsx_utils.hpp

    fasttrack

    highfive

**New test failures:**

moose: “Error: SetGet::strGet: Field Vm not found on Element z”,
multiple SIGABRT/SIGSEGV

mpir: “mpn_get_d wrong, didn't get 0.0 on underflow” on aarch64, ppc64le

python-numpoly: multiple results have dtype 'int64' where 'int32' is
expected

sleef: https://github.com/shibatch/sleef/issues/439 – failing tests
skipped for now

New compilation errors:

COPASI: “error: passing 'const CDataVectorN' as 'this'
argument discards qualifiers [-fpermissive]”

grpc: initializing std::string_view/absl::string_view with nullptr –
fixed and PR sent upstream

python-steps: “static assertion failed: key equality predicate must be
invocable with two arguments of key type” via c++/12/bits/hashtable_policy.h

vxl: “error: conversion from 'int' to 'std::__cxx11::basic_string'
is ambiguous” – looks like an attempt to initialize a string by
std::string(nullptr), which is now explicitly deleted
(“basic_string(nullptr_t) = delete”)

On 1/14/22 09:31, Jakub Jelinek wrote:

Hi!

gcc 12 snapshot has landed as the system compiler into rawhide today.
GCC 12 is going to enter its stage4 development phase (only regression
and documentation bugfixes allowed) on Monday 17th, so there should be
just those bugfixes and not new features etc. anymore.
https://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-12/changes.html lists important changes,
most important is probably that vectorization is enabled at -O2 now
which is the option with most of the distribution is built with.

https://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-12/porting_to.html is so far incomplete and lists
some cases where people need to adjust their code. Other things
include the usual C++ header changes, where previously some standard
header included some other header as an implementation detail but it doesn't
any longer and so code that relied on such indirect include that isn't
required by the standard needs to include the header that provides whatever
it relies on. Or e.g. packages using -Werror where new warnings are
reported with the newer compiler and -Werror results in build failures.

If there are bugs on the compiler side, please let me know immediately,
so that those bugs can be fixed before the mass rebuild next week.

Another important thing I wanted to say is that we'd like to switch
ppc64le from the numerically problematic IBM extended long double to
IEEE 754 quad long double. This is an ABI change. Some libraries
are already built so that they support both ABIs at the same time,
including glibc, libstdc++, libgcc, libgfortran etc.
For other libraries and binaries, the compiler, assembler and linker
will notice if they use long double and flag them as using either
IBM or IEEE long double and linker (or I think dynamic linker too)
might complain when things are mixed.
Right now the rawhide gcc still defaults to -mabi=ibmlongdouble
but the glibc/gcc libraries are built compatibly with both.
We'd like to configure gcc shortly before the mass rebuild with
--with-long-double-format=ieee so that it will default to
-mabi=ieeelongdouble, probably on a side-tag build first, and it
will be highly desirable to rebuild at least some of the most

Red Hat subscribed builders (for EPEL 8) have been deployed to production.

There's though some problem related to the s390x native builders. Please
stay tuned on that part... For now, s390x stays emulated (and as I noticed
later after the announcement, we haven't enabled the epel-8-s390x chroot,
yet - so there's no regression at least). I hope these issues will be
resolved by the end of the week.

Happy building,

Note that this request will result in an initial bootstrap build; it will still
be some time before a "real" build is ready to be issued as an update.

Critical path is: libtomcrypt (Bug 2029477) -> perl-CryptX (Bug 2029477) ->
perl-Crypt-CBC (Bug 2037669) -> perl-Crypt-Blowfish (Bug 2037672) ->
perl-Data-Serializer -> perl-Log-Trace -> perl-Test-Assertions ->
perl-Hash-Flatten -> perl-Validation-Class -> perl-Type-Tiny

Re: Request assistance getting a package (usbrelay) into Fedora

2022-01-17 Thread Artur Frenszek-Iwicki
Hi, Darryl.

> How to clone the GitHub repository in the spec file
RPM packages are build from Source files. You don't clone the repository in the
spec;
rather, you download the repository as a tarball and use that. For GitHub, you
can download
a specific git tag (or commit) by using the following URL as a source:

https://github.com/darrylb123/usbrelay/archive/%{tag_or_commit}/usbrelay-%{tag_or_commit}.tar.gz

> should there be one package or a separate python package
If the python bindings are usable without the command-line application,
or if the application is usable without the python interface - it can be done.
You don't need to create a separate .spec file; rather, you can build the python
package as a sub-package.

For what it's worth, back in the day I wrote a couple of posts on my blog
that aim to explain some basics of RPM packaging.
Maybe you'll find them useful.

Re: Request assistance getting a package (usbrelay) into Fedora

2022-01-17 Thread Petr Menšík
Hi Darryl,

if you have all sources in single repository then only one source
package should exist for them. That means one spec file, which can
contain multiple sub-packages produced on build. But input should still
be single if they come from single repository.

You can build both python and native code from single spec file. It you
have never worked with RPM, I would recommend finding someone interested
as co-maintainer. You would have to create a package review and obtain a
sponsor to own your own package in Fedora.

To start RPM packaging, I would suggest reading [1]. Also packaging
guidelines [2] of course. Or just copy and modify existing spec. I think
my sep review [3] might be useful inspiration to you. It contains both
python and cmake builds. Your project uses just make, so %make_build and
%make_install would be used instead. Spec file is a recipe to build an
RPM package, it would need only source archive in addition.

Spec file does not clone github repository in any way. Source rpm
package contains spec file and source code archive. In case of github,
it would be obtained from a release tag. Some smart url can be used from
github to download tar.gz source archive, from which the code would be
built. If you look on sep [3] example, %forgemeta macro with %forgeurl0
make it easy and it would choose correct %forgesource automagically.
> - should there be one package or a separate python package.
It makes sense to package python3-usbrelay and usbrelay separately. But
both would be built from single source.
> - what about the daemon/ systemd service...

If you do not have separate library and utilities, keep systemd service
together with utilities. If library with devel package exists, it should
be separate from utilities/daemons. If you have shared library, I think
you should have 4 subpackages in total.

- usbrelay (utility and daemon)
- usbrelay-libs (shared library)
- usbrelay-devel (header files and usbrelay.so)
- python3-usbrelay (python module)

Does -O0 help? -flto vs. -fno-lto? -fno-ipa-modref (gcc 12 is slightly
more aggressive in the interprocedural TBAA)?
If -O0 helps, can you find out if it is the test or something in a library or
whatever that the test uses, and if the latter, try to bisect it to one *.o
file? If -O0 doesn't help, try to mix and match gcc 11 and gcc 12 built
objects. I know next to nothing about qemu, so it would help if somebody
familiar with it did that. Perhaps Paolo Bonzini is familiar with both
qemu and gcc...
Having just one preprocessed source + compiler command line and knowing
roughly what to look for allows bisection and further analysis.

Can you please mail me preprocessed source on which this now fails
and the g++ command line? If it is a compiler change rather than
libstdc++ I could bisect and try to find out what's going on.

Hi!

> Questions on Issues like:

Maybe I am able to answer some of your questions.

> - How to clone the GitHub repository in the spec file

Short answer: You don't. RPM packages are (usually) built from
declarative "Source" files, not by manually executing steps to get
those sources.
In this case, you would use the standard git archive / tarball
provided by GitHub for the release you want to package, with a
parametrized URL like this one:

URL: https://github.com/darrylb123/usbrelay
Source0: %{url}/archive/v%{version}/%{name}-%{version}.tar.gz

This makes it possible to only change the version string in one place
and not having to update the Source URLs etc. too.

Then for Fedora packages, "spectool" is the tool used to download /
prepare those source files before building a source package.
"spectool -g usbrelay.spec" will parse your .spec file and download
the files from the URLs specified with Source0, Source1, etc.
"rpmbuild -bs usbrelay.spec" will then construct your source package,
assuming you place the files in the expected locations on file system.
"mock usbrelay-0.8-1.fc35.src.rpm" will then build your packages in
the standard clean sandbox that's used by all Fedora RPM builds.

> - should there be one package or a separate python package.

That depends on the use case. Are the python bindings useful without
the command line interface?
Does the command line interface depend on the python bindings anyway?
If they are useful without each other, building a "python3-usbrelay"
package from the same "usbrelay" package is possible, you do not need
to create separate .spec files for that.

> - what about the daemon/ systemd service...

Same applies here. If the application is useful without the
daemon+service, I'd split those off into a separate sub-package too.

[Bug 2041430] New: [RFC] Drop support for mod_perl in F36+/EL9+

2022-01-17 Thread bugzilla
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2041430

Bug ID: 2041430
Summary: [RFC] Drop support for mod_perl in F36+/EL9+
   Product: Fedora
   Version: rawhide
Status: NEW
 Component: perl-Plack
  Assignee: rc040...@freenet.de
  Reporter: xav...@bachelot.org
QA Contact: extras...@fedoraproject.org

perl-devel@lists.fedoraproject.org, ppi...@redhat.com,
rc040...@freenet.de, xav...@bachelot.org
  Target Milestone: ---
Classification: Fedora

Hi Ralf,

As you know, I'll take care of building perl-Plack in EPEL 9. One of the
dependency is mod_perl, which won't make it to EPEL 9 and is marked as
abandoned/unsupported for Fedora in the specfile.

I'd like to suggest the following tuning to the rawhide branch specfile.
It disables mod_perl support for both el9+, but I thought it might make sense
to also disable it in F36+. I'd like to get this or a variation of this in
rawhide so one can keep a non-diverging history in the epel9 branch.

I'll submit a proper PR once you gave me your thoughts on this approach.

Request assistance getting a package (usbrelay) into Fedora

2022-01-17 Thread Darryl Bond
Hello,
I maintain a small application hosted on GitHub.
It allows control of USB connected electrical relays. Originally it was a
simple command line application.
Over the years, it has accumulated additional features such as a python
interface, and an mqtt daemon.
There is a debian package that has not been maintained for many years. We are
endeavouring to fix that.
As a long term Fedora user, I would love to get it into Fedora. However I have
never attempted to create an rpm package. The more I read, the more confused I
am.

Questions on Issues like:
- How to clone the GitHub repository in the spec file
- should there be one package or a separate python package.
- what about the daemon/ systemd service...

Any help greatly appreciated

The EPEL documentation specifically says to enable CRB/PowerTools if
you're using EPEL:

https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/epel/#how_can_i_use_these_extra_packages

NOTE for RHEL 8 users with certificate subscriptions: EPEL packages
assume that the 'codeready-builder' repository is enabled. You can
do this with:

subscription-manager repos --enable
"codeready-builder-for-rhel-8-$(arch)-rpms"

NOTE for CentOS 8 and CentOS Stream 8 users: EPEL packages assume
that the 'powertools' repository is enabled. You can do this with:

dnf config-manager --set-enabled powertools

Whilst that is for EL-8 I don't see why it would be different for EL-9.
In particular, for interpreted languages like perl there are a large
number of runtime dependencies from EPEL packages to packages in CRB.

Paul.

perl-namespace-autoclean-0.29-8.el9 is included in the Code Ready Builder
