Request to add new groups to comps.xml

2019-08-23 Thread Danny Lee

Hello devel,

The NeuroFedora SIG is working to create a Comp-Neuro Fedora Labs
<https://labs.fedoraproject.org/> live image/installer.  We would also
like group our packages into an easier-to-install format for our target
audience, which may include researchers who are new to Fedora.

To this end we would like to respectfully request the addition of two
new groups in Comps.XML
<https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_use_and_edit_comps.xml_for_package_groups>.

The first group would be "neuro-simulators" which would include several
simulation packages as mandatory installs and a dozen or so python
packages as default installs.

The second group would be "comp-neuro-tools" and would include many of
the packages found on the Neuro-SIG group's page on src.fp.o
<https://src.fedoraproject.org/group/neuro-sig> as well as the software
being packaged on the NeuroFedora pagure
<https://pagure.io/neuro-sig/NeuroFedora/issues>.

This one is concerning. A quick repoquery on F31 shows that it's still
required by:

bacula2-client-0:2.4.4-33.fc30.x86_64
...
w3m-0:0.5.3-43.git20180125.fc31.x86_64

openSSL 1.1.1c is the latest, seems like these packages will be the next
to break and need dependency migrations.  This is an interesting read

Debates/back and forths

2019-08-28 Thread Danny Lee

Hi all,

I'm new to the devel list and fedora in general, but i was wondering if
these kind of back and forths between a few people is a frequent
occurrence.  I came to Fedora to volunteer what little spare time I have
to help the Fedora project in some little ways. I don't feel that should
include wading through dozens of emailed back and forths between
individuals who seem to have strong, immovable opinions, I just don't
have time for that.

Is there any chance there is a moderated list or discussion group about
current project tasks and issues rather than debates about how to do
things?  Or perhaps, a way to turn off certain threads or block certain
posters?

Thanks for your time and info you can provide.
