Yeah, it's sort of hard to remember to update a driver that hasn't seen
a release in nearly three years. I've built a new snapshot for rawhide
and F27.

As mentioned in the bug report, xorg-x11-server is still used for gen2 and gen3.
Furthermore glamor doesn't work that well for gen4/gen5 based systems
(I'll submit a few benchmark values of a gen4 based system soon).

I had at least one crash-bug in the package shipped by Fedora
(triggered by LibreOffice), which was solved after (manually) updating
to the latest xorg-x11-server git.
Please don't let the package rot like this.

Thanks, Clemens

Please read : https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1413251

Since F26 xorg-x11-server defualts to use modeset driver instead of
intel.

Fedora 27 ships with outdated intel driver from 20160929

2017-10-25 Thread Clemens Eisserer
Hi there,

For Fedora 26 (or was it 25) it was decided to replace the
intel-optimized xorg-x11-drv-intel with the generic modesetting+glamor
approach.
While this works well for >= Sandy-Bridge (gen6) based chips, I
experience performance regressions for day-to-day work (eclipse,
libreoffice, ...) on my gen5 laptop and I suspect gen4 (i965) is even
worse.

Therefore, I continue using xorg-x11-drv-intel + SNA, however, the
package shipped by Fedora is really outdated and now over a year old
(20160929): https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1496252

I don't expect active support for this settup, but please either ship
a more recent version of this package or drop it altogethert.

Thanks, Clemens
