I have been using Linux on X series Lenovo Thinkpads for many years,
X200, X220, X240 and before that IBM A31 & X31
Linux versions include Fedora, Centos, RHEL but I have briefly tried
Ubuntu (successfully).
I develop navigation and mapping software for autonomous marine vehicles
for a living using these computers.

In case you haven't seen it yet, there's a SIG (special-interest-group)
that focuses on Java packaging within Fedora:

so hopefully that page is of interest.  (I'm not a member of that SIG,
