It turned out that our release script wasn't uploading the documentation
due to a problem with group permissions at fedorahosted.org [1], which
has just been fixed.

I have uploaded the new documentation. It contains a section [2]
describing migration from the legacy %{_mavendepmapfragdir} directory.

Okay. Please don't do that. Use java-devel. Otherwise, this will break
on future updates to Java 8, 9 an later ones.

java-1.8.0-openjdk provides the highest-versioned 'java-devel' (1:1.8.0,
compared with java-1.7.0's 1:1.7.0).

No. JPackage/Fedora guidelines require all Java implementations to
provide 'java-devel = version-of-java-implementation'.

In practice, that means that all Java packages should require
java-devel. The problem is the bytecode level. The Java compiler by
default produces bytecode that is only compatible with itself or a
higher version of Java. Older Java implementations error out when they
see it. This is kind of opposite of what we want as a distribution,
where all java bytecode should correspond with the lowest version of
Java implementation that we ship.

Anyway, this whole point should become moot. java-1.7.0-openjdk will be
deprecated and removed from the distribution before Change Freeze. Only
java-1.8.0-openjdk will be left.

Thanks,
Omair

Yes it is finished, it was finished when i sent the email saying it
was finished and merged back into rawhide. the difference in numbers
will be due to packages that fail to create a srpm. they do not get as
far as actually making a srpm to create a build in koji, they do not
show up as failures because they failed too early.

It's finished, the packages in that list are broken and failed during
the mass rebuild and need manual intervention to be fixed.

I believe that this is a documentation bug, not a defect in

Another source of Java build failures may be that the

In the xorg-x11-docs case it's explicitly BuildRequires:
java-1.7.0-openjdk; changing it to plain java-devel actually fixes the
build, presumably because either 1.7.0 no longer provides that or yum
just decides it likes 1.8.0 better.

That's likely because both OpenJDK7 and OpenJDK8 both provide
java-devel (based on a the repo as it stood at yesterday's compose so
it doesn't include the mass rebuild packages):

# repoquery --whatprovides java-devel
java-1.7.0-openjdk-devel-1:1.7.0.60-2.5.0.22.pre04.fc21.x86_64
java-1.8.0-openjdk-devel-1:1.8.0.5-9.b13.fc21.x86_64

I'm sure it should likely only be provided by one or the other.

Some of the jars used is compiled with Java 8 and thus generated bytecode can't
be read from Java 7 (which is used in your build). Bump the BR to java 1.8.

xorg-x11-docs apparently fails to rebuild because something is horribly
wrong in java land:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError:
org/apache/avalon/framework/configuration/ConfigurationException :
Unsupported major.minor version 52.0

Dennis, I've been considering retiring the coda package here soon. If I do so
sooner rather than later, would that clear the coda FTBFS, or is it too late to
remove the package from F21?

Hi All,

I am in the process of tagging the mass rebuild into f21 it will land
in the next rawhide which due to the size will take some time to
compose, and sync out to the mirrors

The tagging script tells me it is "Checking 13923 builds..." there is a
very large number of failures[1]. There seems to be a very large number
of java and ruby

This was expected. I checked a few random packages, and I met always
just test suite failures duet to minitest update:

There are probably few others, which were already broken before mass
rebuild due to Ruby rebase.

Re: Fedora 21 Mass rebuild update

2014-06-08 Thread Kevin Fenzi
The srpm buildroot was still broken, this time by rpkg.

There was a rpkg build 2014-03-24 10:05:16 with a upstream version bump,
but it was untagged before going out in a rawhide compose and wasn't
ever fixed. Then the mass rebuild built it and landed it in the
buildroot.

If you commit things to rawhide, please do make sure things are
usable/buildable, don't leave something for months later. ;)

Current upstream version [1] would handle it, if %release were defined
like this:

  %global release 4%{?dist}

  Release: %{release}

Then the script doesn't touch the subpackage Release tags anymore,
because it considers this (and %baserelease found in very old Fedora spec
files) a special case.

Redefining %release in subpackage Release tags using the %release macro
makes no sense and is error-prone, too, because if it defined a different
release value actually, that would change the value of %release for the rest
of the spec file and bears of a risk of referring to the wrong value in
manual Requires, Provides, …

There are only a very few spec files at Fedora that do things like that
or apply macro-madness.

lvm2's spec isn't very friendly to the rpmdev-bumpspec script that the
mass rebuild uses, so it is a bit messed up. They seem to redefine
'release' for every subpackage and the bumpspec script tries to
increment all of them and the versions then don't match up.

I've untagged it for now... when this finishes:
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=7022907
it should hopefully be back to normal.

I suggest giving koji and hour or so to settle out as there will be a
bit of a churn as it sorts out the repos with the mass package tagging
into f-21.

Hi All,

I am in the process of tagging the mass rebuild into f21 it will land
in the next rawhide which due to the size will take some time to
compose, and sync out to the mirrors

The tagging script tells me it is "Checking 13923 builds..." there is a
very large number of failures[1]. There seems to be a very large number
of java and ruby failures. so people interested in those stacks please
get onto them and fix them quickly

Regards,
Dennis
