A quick question: ist GTK+2 still the recommended toolkit, or is it now

Currently they are both supported just as well (but maybe not on
Windows, I'm not sure GTK3 is much tested), the only thing that might
differ is which plugins work: most work with both, but not all of them.

So it's mostly up to you.  Most Linux distributions are now distributing
a GTK3 version, but that doesn't mean much more than the GTK3 version
getting more attention.

For the moment we don't plan on phasing out GTK2 support, and that'll
most likely remain the like this unless it starts being problematic, or
in a far future where GTK2 had effectively been buried for long.
