I will take your suggestion and try another usb key. I tried two different USB keys that could transfer 156 MB easily to other XO's. I only recorded that one failed consistently at 29 MB. I didn't record at which point the other USB key failed. I will try another USB key today to test it out. > > Machine #2 Bad Nand-flash > > > > The machine won't boot. This is on joyride-2379 Under 8.1 the X consumption is far less and Bounce updates smoothly. I also tried Bridge (Daniels physics jam game). On 2379 no sound. On Update 1 Bridge works with sound. Marco found it for me: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Update.1_process But in our release meeting today on IRC, we've come up with a slightly different process: there is a new 'approve for release' entry in the "Action Needed" field in trac. Assign your bug to "approve for release" (and milestone to 8.2.0) and the release manager (Michael, for 8.2) will look at your bug, probably make you justify its inclusion or be more specific about what package you want pulled, and then assign "Action Needed" to "add to build". I'll do a trac search for bugs assigned to "add to build" and milestone "8.2.0" before I make a stable build. Michael promised to write this up on the wiki and send a proper email later today, including details on what, exactly, will "satisfy him" enough to move your bug to "add to build". --scott -- ( http://cscott.net/ ) ___ Devel mailing list Devel@lists.laptop.org http://lists.laptop.org/listinfo/devel

I'll 2nd that. "Use a different USB disk" has solved pretty much all of these type reports. Run an MD5 test on your file on the USB disk and see if it matches your source material. This seems like an ideal time to point out that the coreboot (LinuxBIOS) team proudly counts OFW as a payload (though it sometimes lags because you can count the number of us who understand Forth on one hand and have three fingers left over). Coreboot is growing daily (in fact, Via just announced coreboot support for a number of its processors and motherboards. Of course, AMD is also in the party; supporting code for Geode LX, Athlon, Opteron, and Barcelona processors). I realize that the OP was talking about a Forth only stack, but at least coreboot can get you a little bit further along and still give you that (ok) prompt that makes all the ladies swoon. And maybe some day, we can have a complete Forth stack supporting the AMD fam10 processors (I for one would like to see fam10 memory initialization in Forth). If you want to help, check out: http://www.coreboot.org/Buildrom And help us work through some of the bugs in the OFW payload. Hardware Errors -- any hope?
I have what appear to be two hardware errors and I would like to know if there is any hope of fixing them short of swapping out the motherboards. Machine #1 Possible bad USB controller On this machine, I can't copy a file larger than 29 MB from a USB stick to the SSD. The machine completely hangs when I move more than 29 MB. Test-all from the firmware shows no errors. I can scp 156 MB to the local machine no problem. I figure that the problem lies in the USB controller. Any ideas? Machine #2 Bad Nand-flash The machine won't boot. OFW scans for boot disk and finds nothing. The boot device is set to \boot\olpc.fth Copy-nand returns an error the Nand Flash can't be opened. Firmware test-all: Testing pci/nandflash Self test failed Return code -1 This machine was out in the field for about 4 months. I am really surprised that the nand flash has failed. -- Bryan W.
