Even after today's updates I still do not have this issue here.
Anybody tried running chromium from a shell to collect some verbose logs?

Summing up:
The browser do not render jpg images but work with pngs.
Somebody else is having these issues on Sabayon
(http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=125744).
It's hard to reproduce.
For sure the problem came after the installation of some updates.
For sure it does not affect weekly (yet), but rolling back to weekly
for an updated system do not work.
Deleting .config/chromium do nothing.

I have the issue on 2 installations. Both amd64 both were running
sabayonlinux.org, one is now back to weekly, no luck.

make sure your system uses  libjpeg-turbo and not media-libs/jpeg

vitovt # equo install media-libs/libjpeg-turbo -av
solved the problem

libjpeg-turbo was reinstalled and media-libs/jpeg was removed. Now chromium
is OK!
