Re: [riot-devel] Hack'n'ACK tonight

2016-01-26 Thread Martine Lenders
Hi,
I think we did a great job tonight. We met our target to get under 200
pretty precise. Here's a little tally:

 * 44 PRs were updated (either discussed, pushed to, merged or closed):
   * 16 PRs were closed (of this 10 were merged)
   * 2 PRs were created

Of course before the Hack'n'ACK people were also busy so that we closed 29
PRs (and merged 21) in the last 24 h.

Thanks to all the reviewers and contributors for all the work.

Cheers,
Martine

Re: [riot-devel] SamR21 Not using the build in radio

2016-01-26 Thread Hauke Petersen

Hi Ilias,

for you GPRS device you need to implement a device driver (which should
implement the netdev2 interface to be able to integrate with out network
stack(s).

Roughly you then need to do the following:
For not using the build in radio, you don't have to change anything in
the code, all you need to do is not use the `USEMODULE=netif_default` in
your applications Makefile... Instead you then simply tell the make
system to use your GPRS device (something like
`USEMODULE=your_driver_name`) and add auto-initialization code for your
device to sys/auto-init/netif/.

Cheers,
Hauke

Re: [riot-devel] RIOT TCP Stack

2016-01-26 Thread Simon Brummer
Hi Sam,

My Name is Simon and i am the main developer for RIOTs TCP
implementation.

The TCP implementation is part of my bachelor Thesis, the
implementation is more like a proof of concept. I hope till end of
january, that my pull request(https://github.com/RIOT-OS/RIOT/pull/2827
) is able to exchange data between native.

The current version still lacks some features:
- Adaptive retransmission time (currently a constant)
- Protection of overflows in sequence number space
- Processing of urgent pointers
- Processing of pushed data
- Integration into the RIOT new socket implementation.
- Testing on hardware

As mentioned above, my implementation should be able to exchange data
on native till end of january, you are more than welcome to test it on
real hardware. The other missing features will be implemented after i
finished my thesis.

Regards,
Simon

Re: [riot-devel] RIOT TCP Stack

2016-01-26 Thread Martine Lenders
Hello Sam,
You are right GNRC replaced the old stack (which was also developed as a
UDP stack first), since the old one was very buggy and not really
manageable. The TCP component is currently under development by Simon
Brunner at [1]. Since it is developed as part of a thesis which IIRC
encompasses Multipath-TCP, it might be that it is added as a feature. I
think it's best if you ask around in the PR, if you are interested in the
development of this particular module. There is currently no effort to
implement a pure TCP stack however (gnrc_tcp will just be the TCP layer for
the GNRC stack), mainly because our current interest was up until now into
WPANs (where TCP isn't feasible for the most part). However, I got my port
of lwIP [2] working yesterday. If you are in dire need for TCP you can try
it out. Be aware however, that there is no TCP support for the RIOT conn
interface yet (and because of that no support for the `posix_socket`
module). You can however try to use TCP with lwIP's own API (see their
documentation for that). Never tried it, but in theory it should work.

Regards,
Martine
