Re: [Development] Stepping down as a maintainer of Qt OPC UA

2024-05-13 Thread Jannis Voelker
Hi,

Thank you for your trust, I'm looking forward to taking over the maintainer
role for the Qt OPC UA module.
Also, many thanks to Frank for the great support during his time as maintainer.

Best regards,
Jannis

The libxz issue was that the fake maintainer pressured distros into
packaging his tarball instead of the project's git tree, so I do think
there's a difference between an approver, who's actions are subject to
source version control, and a maintainer, who to some degree represents
the project to the public, too.

And yes, the borders are grey zones here.

Thanks,
Marc

+1, and thanks to both Frank and Jannis!

Jannis is already approver, so he already has all the privileges as far as
source code access is concerned. If we want to start doing background checks
(and that’s a worthwhile discussion to have), we’d have to do so when
nominating approvers, wouldn’t we?

Thanks for your work on QtOpcUa over the years!

+1

Jannis seems to be on top of the module, AFAICT.

BUT: I've never met Jannis in person, so maybe Eva or other C-suite people from
basyskom can confirm that this isn't going to be an xzlib-like situation? E.g.
there's no Jannis on https://www.basyskom.de/ueber-uns/ :)

Thanks, and sorry for caution,
Marc
