Thanks for writing and publishing ltnu, nice tool!

What would help me would be an option to only show packages where the
address is only looked for in the Maintainer field, and not in
Uploaders as well.

That way I could get an overview over my "private" packages, as
opposed to the list where all team-maintained packages are included
as well.

Cheers,
gregor

Dear Maintainers,

   * What led up to the situation?
Trying to use reproducible-check

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
Install devscripts package without recommended nor suggested packages

   * What was the outcome of this action?
$ reproducible-check
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/reproducible-check", line 29, in
from xdg.BaseDirectory import xdg_cache_home
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'xdg'

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
   reproducible-check to work properly

Installing python3-xdg solves the issue. You should consider it as a dependency
of the devscripts package.
python3-xdg is currently a recommended package.

Cheers,
Nicolas

Dear maintainers,

devscripts 2.17.12 fails to build in Ubuntu because a new test enforces the
Debian vendor behavior, but does not ensure that Debian is actually set as
the vendor:

testGuessedDistribution

I have uploaded the attached patch to Ubuntu to fix this build failure.
Please consider including it in Debian as well.

Package: devscripts
Version: 2.15.3+deb8u1
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

I have the issue that one of my upstreams is hosted on a GForge
instance, and its download urls are (needlessly I guess) encoding the
filenames in hexadecimal, e.g.:

https://ccpforge.cse.rl.ac.uk/gf/download/frsrelease/574/8924/%64%6c%5f%63%6c%61%73%73%5f%31%2e%31%30%2e%74%61%72%2e%67%7a

The part after 8924/ translates to "dl_class_1.10.tar.gz" which I would
need to furhter mangle to "dl-poly-classic-1.10.tar.gz", but that's
another matter.

I managed to find the correct line (out of many) by doing a pagemangle
on the link text (which contains the filename) and then mangling the URL
back via downloadurlmangle, but uscan refuses to download the URL it
correctly identified as candidate saying

uscan debug:
https://ccpforge.cse.rl.ac.uk/gf/download/frsrelease/574/8924/%64%6c%5f%63%6c%61%73%73%5f%31%2e%31%30%2e%74%61%72%2e%67%7a
 by filenamemangle rule.
uscan warn: Fix filenamemangle to produce a filename with the correct version

The current debian/watch is:

version=4
opts="pagemangle=s/\">dl_class_([\d.]+)\.tar\.gz/dl_class_$1\.tar\.gz\">/,downloadurlmangle=s/dl_class_([\d.]+)\.tar\.gz//,filenamemangle=s/.*dl_class_([\d.]+)\.tar\.gz/dl-poly-classic-$1\.tar\.gz/"
\
https://ccpforge.cse.rl.ac.uk/gf/project/dl_poly_classic/frs/
.*/gf/download/frsrelease/.*

As filenamemangle does not allow for the /e flag (and thus some decoding
regexp like 's/%([A-Fa-f\d]{2})/chr hex $1/eg'), I can't do anything
about the URL currently AFAICT.

So I guess what I would need is some option to tell uscan that the last
part of the URL should be decoded (or maybe it could do that
automatically), from which it could figure out the version.

Package: devscripts
Version: 2.16.8

I am working on packaging mozjs38, a requirement for gnome-shell 3.24.

mozjs is the JavaScript engine of Firefox. The only official "release"
tarball was 38.2. Fedora has instead used the regular Firefox 38.8 ESR
tarball (so that 8 months of security and other bugfixes are
included). The Firefox tarball works but contains a lot of unused
files. Working with such a massive tarball is painful and unnecessary
in the case so I looked to using uscan with Files-Excluded in
debian/copyright.

However, mk-origtargz is apparently not designed to handle this level
of pruning.

Test Case
--
Clone this repo:
https://anonscm.debian.org/git/users/jbicha-guest/mk-origtargz-test
cd mk-origtargz-test
uscan -dd --verbose

Result
-
uscan info: Executing internal command:
   mk-origtargz --package mozjs38 --version 38.8.0 --compression gzip
--directory ../tarballs --copyright-file debian/copyright
../tarballs/firefox-38.8.0esr.source.tar.bz2
Can't exec "tar": Argument list too long at
/usr/share/perl5/Dpkg/IPC.pm line 308.

More Info
-
I was able to trigger this failures with just 4 lines in
Files-Excluded (but those directories contain thousands of files)
Files-Excluded:
 browser
 dom
 media
 security

I am reporting this from Ubuntu zesty which uses 2.16.8ubuntu1, but
the changelog doesn't look like anything relevant has changed in the
current sid version.

Thanks,
Jeremy Bicha

Hello,

I'm getting a lintian warning an the package ltp:

W: ltp source: debian-watch-file-should-mangle-version

however, the watch file in question actually does mangle the version on
the line

opts=dversionmangle=s/\+.*$// \

which correctly changes 20081031+dfsg to 20081031.

Hello!

When I try to use the provided bash-completion with uupdate, it only
offers -* options when I type tab; if I start typing a filename, then
typing tab does not offer any completions. It also doesn't make sense
to me why --pristine should then do a compgen -G on filenames.
Perhaps remove the --pristine section from the uupdate completion
script, change the *) section to -*), and *) then becomes:

  _filedir
  ;;

which does filename completion?

Best wishes,

   Julian

Package: devscripts
Version: 2.15.10
Severity: wishlist
Usertags: uscan

In the Go Packaging Team[1], we face the issue that the Golang community
does not tag releases for library packages. This practice is encouraged
by the golang tools and by the community. Whether that is a good thing
or not is the subject of a broader discussion.

When used with git mode, I would like for uscan to generate a version
number even though the repository is not tagged.

One of our tools, dh-make-golang, is able to do this. For example:
"0.0~git20151028.0.2a60fc2-1":

 - 0.0 is the latest tag. If there are no tags found, 0.0 is the default.
 - git20151028 represents the date of the last commit
 - 0 represents the number of commits that day (counting from 0)
 - 2a60fc2 is the commit id

It does not have to be this exact versioning scheme, others can work too.

I have done a quick research and it looks like this can be done with a
combination of git ls-remote, downloading the last object, and parsing
it for the date.

This would help us a great deal to keep up with our packages, and would
surely be useful for other teams/packages.

This was discussed in dh-make-golang's issue tracker (adding Michael to
CC as he has expressed a friend of his would like to code this):
 - https://github.com/Debian/dh-make-golang/issues/8

Package: devscripts
Version: 2.17.12~bpo9+1
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/bin/uscan

There are a number of projects hosted at kernel.org that use the
kup-client utility to handle uploads. While it may upload a signature to
verify the uploaded tarballs, those signatures are against the
uncompressed tarball, rather than the compressed tarballs.

For example, for dtc version 1.4.6, there is:

  https://www.kernel.org/pub/software/utils/dtc/

  dtc-1.4.6.tar.gz
  dtc-1.4.6.tar.sign
  dtc-1.4.6.tar.xz

I can download either .tar.gz or .tar.xz, decompress them, and then use
the .tar.sign to verify it, but I don't see any obvious way to do this
From debian/watch.

I'm also not sure the Debian archive supports uploading a signature file
against a file that isn't included in the distribution, so maybe this
isn't really an issue worth handling in uscan...

Package: devscripts
Version: 2.10.43
Severity: wishlist

Hi!

Is it possible to make uscan get the revision/version/etc of remote VCS
repositories, please?

For example, it's possible to get the last revision of a SVN repository:

$ svn info http://svn.collab.net/repos/svn/trunk/
Path: trunk
URL: http://svn.collab.net/repos/svn/trunk
Repository Root: http://svn.collab.net/repos/svn
Repository UUID: 612f8ebc-c883-4be0-9ee0-a4e9ef946e3a
Revision: 34877
Node Kind: directory
Last Changed Author: rhuijben
Last Changed Rev: 34876
Last Changed Date: 2008-12-20 10:28:17 -0200 (Sat, 20 Dec 2008)

(probably the other VCS have a similar function)

Then we would use something that says "get the latest revision from foo" inside
the watch file and use it to watch packages that use the VCS version/revision
on them.

A practical example: checkgmail uses dversionmangle in its watch file to remove
the +svn part from the version.

version=3
opts=dversionmangle=s/\+svn\d+$// \
http://sf.net/checkgmail/checkgmail-([\d.]*)\.tar\.bz2

With the usage of VCS, it could be (just an idea):

version=X
vcs=svn=https://checkgmail.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/checkgmail \
[plus some more magic here]

Then instead getting this:

$ uscan --report-status
Processing watchfile line for package checkgmail...
Newest version on remote site is 1.13, local version is 1.13+svn37
 (mangled local version number 1.13)
 => Package is up to date

We would get this:

$ uscan --report-status
Processing watchfile line for package checkgmail...
Newest version on remote site is 1.13+svn37, local version is 1.13+svn37
 => Package is up to date

Thank you very much!

Best regards,
Nelson

As for the original request in 2008 (almost 10 years ago):
  "Option for parsing revision/version from VCS repositories"

Considering
 * git is becoming de facto standard for VCS.
 * git support is there after #663357 fix in 2.15.10 (2015)
 * git support code is maturing with fix to #811565
 * After 2 years of moreinfo, no one came to support subversion.
 * In 2008, subversion was VCS but in 2018, git is VCS.
 * This bug is done deal if VCS is considered as git.

I am closing this bug as above.

Package: devscripts
Version: 2.15.3
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Although mk-origtargz add suffix to the generated tarball, uscan does
not adjust the version passed to uupdate.

I think it is desiarable to apply attached patch.

This patch is against git HEAD (so version 2.15.8 is affected).

FYI: Although it is not documented and it has no practical use as of
now, the current uscan code allows us to write multiple entries after
the "version=3" line to download source files with some problem. With
relatively minor patch, this can be made to download secondary tarballs
properly for multi-tarball source files. ... it is working here. Let me
do some code polishing ...

Dear Maintainer,

Due to the way the bug tracking system's documentation is structured, it
always takes some time for me to find the list of the tags and their
meanings. It would be great if the latest known list of tags was
included in the bts manpage, along with short explanations on their
usage.

Thanks.

Hi,

please add a --lts option to dch.

This should

- set the release to "debian-lts"
- insert "Non-maintainer upload by the Squeeze LTS Team." as the first
  changelog entry and
- increment the version like this:
  - if a package already e.g. had a +squeeze1 update, use +squeeze2 for the
next update,
  - if a package hasn't seen an update, use +deb6u1 for the next update.

Thanks for maintaining devscripts!

cheers,
Holger

Hi,

Dear Maintainer,

The manpage for the debchange script is out of sync with the help-text provided
by it.

Specifically, the --bpo argument description found in the manpage mentions
"jessie-backports", while the help-text (correctly) mentions "stretch-
backports".

Thanks.

In Ubuntu, the attached patch was applied to achieve the following:

  * test/test_mk-origtargz: Adjust test for dpkg 1.19's ErrorHandling.pm.

Fairly self-explanatory, I'd think.  In dpkg 1.19, ErrorHandling.pm was
normalised to match libdpkg error messages, and this means the expected
error in the mk-origtargz test is now incorrect. This patch fixes that.

Dear Maintainer,

Given that the sf.net redirector uses TLS to talk to the redirector,
it would be nice if we could specify https://sf.net in debian/watch as
well as http://sf.net (especially in light of lintian’s new
debian-watch-uses-insecure-uri tag).

Regards,

Stephen

Hi,

the uscan(1) man page states:

Please note that the short keyid 72543FAF is the last 4 Bytes, the
long keyid C77E2D6872543FAF is the last 8 Bytes, and the finger
print is the last 20 Bytes of the public key in hexadecimal form.
(...)

However, the fingerprint is not the last 20 Bytes of the public key,
but instead (for V4 keys) the hexadecimal representation of the SHA-1
hash of the public key (and some additional data [1]).

The short/long keyids are the last 4/8 Bytes of the same hash in hex.

Thanks
Lukas

Hi,

As mentioned on #dd earlier, bash completion for debsign doesn't work:
the filename gets completed based on the longest prefix as usual, but
if one types e.g. "." for a ".dsc", the rest isn't completed. Looking
at the code, acceptable answers (COMPREPLY) are determined by
appending a few known suffixes to the current word. This doesn't work
once we're past the common part.

After a quick research (read: I haven't checked official documentation
for best practices, etc.), the attached patch looks reasonable to me:
the known suffixes are added as such (instead of as globs using the
current word), and results are filtered using the current word.

Below, you'll find examples based on my ~/debian-installer directory,

Version: 2.17.9
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

please add an --sru (or any other abbreviation you like) option to dch to
prepare uploads to stable.

As I don't upload to stable that often, I always have to look up the
correct versioning and target distribution (e.g. "stable" vs. "stretch").
It would be nice to have an option similar to --bpo to prepare an update
for a package in stable.

Likewise for oldstable.

Regards,
Philipp

But pgpmode=auto is a fine option according to the manpage.

Now, I tried that watchfile trying to understand/fix the warning
reported on https://qa.debian.org/cgi-bin/watch?pkg=inkscape
Unable to set versionmode=prev for the line without
opts=pgpmode=prev in debian/watch, skipping:

Even if, as you can see in the current watchfile that opts=pgpmode=prev
is set (probably this is some bug, but given it could be my fault I'm
not filing it as so, yet).

Package: devscripts
Version: 2.17.9
Severity: important
File: /usr/bin/uscan

Hi,

In deja-dup I have the following debian/watch file:

version=3
opts=pgpsigurlmangle=s/$/.asc/ https://launchpad.net/deja-dup/+download
.*/deja-dup-(.+)\.tar\.xz

When downloading a new version, the signature file is named
deja-dup_.orig.tar.xz.pgp.

The problem is that dpkg-souces only knows about .asc files apparently,
this means that the signature is not included in the source package.

The signature should be renamed to .asc IMVHO

Regards,

Laurent Bigonville

Dear Maintainer,

it appears that when in pgpmode=previous uscan fails to match, at least
in the following example:

--8><--- d/watch

---><8-

then

uscan --no-conf --download-current-version --compression xz --verbose

gives
