Re: [Dhis2-users] Maps of outbreaks
Thanks Jim - I will try to find time to get more Data Entry ideas into a Blueprint. Also very much like your thoughts about extending the current bare-bones app management in DHIS2 to include configuration of each app - maybe something for GSoC? Knut On Sat, Feb 15, 2014 at 5:40 PM, Jim Grace jimgr...@gmail.com wrote: Hi Knut, Nice thoughts about more flexible data entry forms pivoting in different dimensions. And given how much easier the auto-generated forms are than designing your own, it would be great to expand the number of cases that one can use auto-generated forms for. Developing a detailed proposal for this sounds like a very useful effort. Any takers? I quite agree that we should provide tools for people who are not programmers allowing them to configure what they want. My question about the appropriate use of apps isn't really focused on when do we expect users to write their own. It's more the question of when are features provided in the core vs. when are they provided in the app store. Speaking of which, if we provide general-purpose, configurable apps in the app store, I wonder how we can provide a user-friendly way to customize app metadata through DHIS, so the user wouldn't have to edit the manifest file inside the app. We could extend the DHIS UI to be able to configure app-specific metadata settings for an app that has been uploaded. I wonder if the app manifest itself could describe the various system settings choices to be made (e.g., the allowable numeric range of a metadata setting, the list of choices, etc.) I'm not familiar enough yet with the app manifest format to know whether it supports this already, or how awkward it might be to graft it on. I known that OpenMRS modules, for example, can add their own settings section to the OpenMRS UI, so they can be configured through OpenMRS. The end result is that the non-programmer user can simply download an OpenMRS module, install it, and then configure it through the OpenMRS UI. The equivalent for DHIS apps could be very useful. Or should the app include its own configuration screens, and the configuration data is somehow stored in DHIS? (I apologize for my lack of knowledge about apps.) If we had Start date and End date in a YEARLY dataset, that might preclude two outbreaks (by any other name) for the same year and same organisation unit, so that might not be the best method for data entry. (And outbreaks that span the new year would still have to be entered twice.) Quite right, I was already wondering how to handle things that cross years. I guess the user should select start and end dates, but these would not be stored. Tending towards preserving the information as much as possible through using a daily dataset - this implies lots of (generated) datavalues for a long outbreak, but is usually for a limited number of orgunits (the total number is over 3000). Monthly data will be interpreted to cover all days in the month. Interesting idea about entering through time on the same form. I wonder what that would look like. Would the periods be columns? Given that we already use columns for disaggregations, that might make the form too wide -- so maybe the periods would be rows. I wonder how the number of periods would be determined -- perhaps specify the number in the form design (or in the data set for an automatically-generated form), or maybe specify a longer period type and show all periods within the longer duration. In this particular case there is but one data element and no disaggregations, so it could go either way. It really depends on how you get your data - sometimes you have lots of data for just one OrgUnit, and then it's a hassle to constantly select new periods when the screen could easily accommodate a matrix grid rather than a one dimensional column. But of course you would have to somehow specify the number of periods, preferably on a dataset basis rather than as a global setting. We already support the choice of horizontal or vertical (row/column) multi-orgunit data entry, so would not be too far fetched to do something similar for periods (though they are potentially infinite in number). In fact, the OpenHealth prototype that was developed for WHO back in 2007 had a data entry interface quite akin to our Pivot Table. Most of all I wonder what other use cases there might be for entry over multiple time periods. Is this worth building in, or is it best done by an app? I would argue that though our Data Entry is already quite powerful, there are a lot of enhancements that I would really love to see in the core. It would be wonderful if most use cases

Slight edit: Icons would be nice, but perhaps more usefil would be just centroid circles with size according to the indicator value in each district. [Dhis2-users] User roles and user authorities
Hello all, The number of distinct authorities that can be granted to user roles is now beyond 250. As it is often not very comfortable to browse through these in the regular GUI, allow me to share them in a spreadsheet. There has been discussion earlier that it could be good to have pre-defined (of course adjustable) sets of user authorities.available, which I guess could be done as metadata exports from the online demo. Anyway, sharing this particular format in case it is useful for others. -- Knut Staring Dept. of Informatics, University of Oslo +4791880522 http://dhis2.org DHIS2 user authorities.xlsx Description: MS-Excel 2007 spreadsheet ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~dhis2-users Post to : dhis2-users@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~dhis2-users More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Dhis2-users] Has anyone used DHIS2 for Animal Health
Hello Gamal, Do you have some example data or forms that we could refer to in answering this question? Off the top of my head, you could classify orgunits according to the animal (OrgUnit type), though perhaps it would be better to have separate data elements (e.g. Sheep vaccinated for X, vs Cows vaccinated for X). For certain items, it could perhaps make sense to use the same data element and separate in terms of categories, I am specifically thinking in terms of the new partner setup that is available in 2.15. But all of this really depends on a) what data you will collect and b) what kinds of analysis you would like to perform. Re: [Dhis2-users] Sharing Pivot Table details between DHIS instances
Hi Greg, In DHIS2, the number of levels are deduced from the hierarchy, so there are no fixed levels. It's quite feasible to add a new root node above the national level (one could of course also think of regional nodes below the global level, e.g. Africa, Europe etc). If you mean that a multinational organization can set up a global metadata repository with orgunits from all their countries, that is certainly possible - it would in effect be using DHIS2 as a multinational Master Facility Registry. DHIS2 could serve this function - and the same global instance could also house all data element and indicator definitions. This would then be a real metadata repository, in other words a mechanism for sharing CONTENT which could even host HTML Standard Report templates (though probably not yet shared and reusable PT/Chart/GIS/Dashboard templates). I guess we currently would require login, though there is usually little reason such metadata could not be shared publicly for anyone on the internet to access - in fact I think we really should technically facilitate and even actively promote the sharing of metadata openly, for the benefit of all. This is a crucial step towards the vision of OpenData [0] (which of course is a much larger undertaking, and is much less straightforward as it can involve sensitive data, in particular when you move beyond aggregate figures). More generally, there have been some efforts at the international level (not involving DHIS2) towards establishing registries for health facilities internationally, though I think few of them are very active. A challenge is that it takes committment from each country to keep it up-to-date (though crowd-sourcing efforts such as OpenStreetMap also seem to have quite a few facilities). Technically, there should not be major challenges to setting it up, and if DHIS2 were to be the platform it would certainly be easy to link with national DHIS2 instances. We have also already linked DHIS2 to other systems such as the Kenyan Master Health Facility List [1] and the Rwanda Health Facility Registry [2]. DHIS2 has also implemented the FRED API [3], which is meant to facilitate such interoperability. I suppose the question highlights the increasing use of more flexible PT for reporting in addition to (or completely replacing) conventional reports. Does it make sense to think of an App that makes it easy to pass parameters (OU, periods) to ready-made pivot layouts - or would that really just be recreating the PT GUI? Re: [Dhis2-users] Dataset Section
Related to this, we have a big form where most sections are very simple and broken down only by gender, but one is also broken down by A LOT of age groupings, so the auto-generated form becomes extremely wide and the users have to scroll a lot horizontally. This also means it is very easy for them to lose track of where they are, though of course they do have the little box in the upper right corner which is meant to help with exactly those cases. So, in general we are very happy with the autogenerated form (and it is huge, with 10 sections), but would like to be able to customize the layout for this particular section (actually, the IDEAL option would be to be able to specify the width of the cells - as we could well have cells only a third of the automatic width). I suppose the best solution for now is to separate out this particular section into a separate form, but are we planning to support custom forms for sections? Thanks Kader, I was thinking there would be a more elegant method than to insert a style for each of the 24x20 cells, but your suggestion works well with a simple search/replace of input in Notepad++ (no need for an HTML editor). I would also love to get rid of the excessive padding to the left and right of the input field in the cell. And of course it would be nice to not have to manually insert the 240 data bindings, so would very much welcome the realization of Lars' thoughts on making the auto-generated form available as a starting point for the customization. Since spreadsheet-like grids are really common (occur pretty much whenever we have a dimensional breakdown), we could also consider providing a CSS template for this scenario, to avoid everyone reinventing that wheel. Re: [Dhis2-users] Problem with dataset assignment
Thanks, I actually had tried that with no effect - but by sheer coincindence, I discovered what was the matter today: I was going to change the icon for an OU group, and noticed that the forms I wanted to get rid of had been assigned to several OU groups (one of which contained most of the OUs in the system). So this functionality is independent of and overriding the dataset assignment - and the result can be very confusing (I spent at least a day trying to fix this issue in the db via other means). Glad to have finally resolved the issue - but also have a similar issue with sharing: Everything (e.g. maps and PT favorites) are accessible to everyone even though I try to restrict to certain user groups. Hi Gerald, I agree with Bob that upgrading version by version should be the safest (though quite tedious) way. However, it might be worth thinking through what data is actually on this server and perhaps consider alternative ways of bringing the data (and metadata) over to a 2.16 instance, either through exports or directly in the database. Probably you are quite familiar with the data (how much, what kind)? Maintenance - Data Statistics should give you an oveview of the amounts of data and metadata. My understanding is that Romain already went through the process of upgrading the old national database on the linode. So what you are taking about now is something different to what has already been done? Anyway, the very first task would be to get a backup dump of the postgres database which is running on the standalone machine and the customised dhis 2.5 war file. Then if you are deploying on a cloud server you might want to start by just replicating exactly what is there ie. 1. create a dhis instance (using the dhis2-tools package) 2. restore the backup database to the dhis instance database 3. deploy the old war file which you have from the standalone. (you can use the -f option of dhis2-deploy-war for this). From here you should verify that you have an exact replica running on the linode of what you had before on the standalone. Upgrading to later dhis2 versions is generally best done incrementally (of course from 2.5 to 2.15 is a long way to go). But you are likely to get the best results by working through 2.6, 2.7, 2.8 ... etc. Doing this on the linode with dhis2-deploy-war should be reasonably painless, with each increment taking no more than a few minutes. Before setting forth on this exercise it is also probably worthwhile to try and fix any inconsistencies and metadata integrity issues that might exist in the old database. Getting rid of things like orphaned categoryoptions and the like at this stage might prevent issues arising as you attempt to upgrade. One big caveat ... I am a bit nervous to read that you have a customised war file. Naturally these customisations will not be present in later stock versions of dhis that you upgrade to. What you will need to do depends entirely on what the customisations are. Can you give some more info on how the war is customised (and maybe by who)? Re: [Dhis2-users] Quick way to add missing ISO weeks going back to 2011?
We do have a specific version of 2.14 which accommodates weeks starting on Wednesday. There is a lot of code behind each period , so if the particular period which you have is not implemented, then it will have to be implemented in Java. Morten has done a lot of work on this lately but this period type is not there yet I think. I am pretty sure this issue has been discussed before on the list, of so called Epi weeks. Re: [Dhis2-users] [Dhis2-devs] Relative Periods in Pivot Tables reports
Since you seem to need something urgently, 24 months (or even 36) would be really easy to implement - i.e. you could probably have it very quickly. Agree with your ideal solution, though since it is is different from the current selections, it might take considerably more effort (Lars obviously knows best). So to keep it on the safe side, I think a more dynamic option will much better on the long run. Please note that if this option can be applied to the “Quarterly” level, it will be good and usable since the only option we have for now is “last 4 quarters”. Re: [Dhis2-users] GIS shapefiles integration / info about names of feature members
There is an xslt file which sets the number to 4. You could edit that inside the .war file. Alternatively, we could come up with a regex SQL query which you could apply after import On Oct 10, 2014 5:10 AM, dut...@wpro.who.int wrote: Hi everyone, Sorry for reviving an old thread. Tabular Tracker Capture is an app that makes you more effective and productive when capturing lots of persons and event information. It lets you register new persons and other entities, do enrollment in programs and enter event or case information in the same screen. You can easily navigate between organisation units, time periods and enrollment status. Get it from the app store https://www.dhis2.org/appstore. Try it out on the demo https://apps.dhis2.org/demo. See a screenshot http://folk.uio.no/larshelg/images/tabular-capture.png. This app was developer by James Chang and contributed by PSI http://www.psi.org/. We are happy that PSI made the effort to make the app generic and reusable, hence making it available for others to use on their own DHIS instance. We encourage you to check it out. best regards, Lars ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~dhis2-devs Post to : dhis2-d...@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~dhis2-devs More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp -- Knut Staring Dept. of Informatics, University of Oslo +4791880522 Skype: knutstar http://dhis2.org ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~dhis2-users Post to : dhis2-users@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~dhis2-users More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I also saw there was a new commit to Trunk yesterday which rewrote the GML import - not sure if that provides any more flexibility to select number of decimals, which has been set to 4, but you want something less accurate but faster. 4 means roughly 10m accuracy, 2 would mean 1 KM accuracy: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7167604/how-accurately-should-i-store-latitude-and-longitude If you want to change the 4 to 2, you actually have to stop Tomcat and go into your tomcat\webapps\dhis\WEB-INF\lib\ folder. In there, you will find the library dhis-service-importexport-2.16.jar If you unzip that into a new subfolder, you will find that it contains a folder called transform, which again contains the file gml2dxf.xsl Open that in Notepad++ or similar, and line 7 is like this: xsl:param name=decimalPlaces4/xsl:param Change the number and rezip all the CONTENT of the dhis-service-importexport-2.16 folder (not the folder itself). Rename it to .jar and replace the old dhis-service-importexport-2.16.jar file. Start Tomcat and ready to import... I did end up importing the co-ordinates into an offline copy of the DB just to see how its working (seems like the files etc are OK at least). Is either method preferable over the other? I say go with what works for you - hoping though that Sushil's app would assist people - but there are many aspects to this, including matching hierarchies created from Excel files with names in Shape files. Perhaps Sushil could also add functionality for selecting the number of decimals. Also, on the offline copy of the DB I upgraded to stable 2.16 to see how things would work. When I run the facility layer in the GIS, I no longer get the symbol images I had selected for the org unit group, just broken image files like so: When I check the org unit group, they are still assigned to the correct symbol. Any ideas? The standard response is always to check your caching - BUT it seems the same is happening on https://apps.dhis2.org/demo/, so this looks like a bug.
