Read the FAQ, or read the archives of this mailing list, for Saturday's
traffic.

Hey Cyrille,

I had the same problem Mr. Smith had a month ago when I tried to run this
neat little program...
and guess what , I tried the FAQ and it still did not work!!!
But I'm sure I am not the only one who doesn't write code who would like
to try the program :-}

Ah -- this becomes interesting. I'm sorry if you've already asked for help
(after being pointed to the FAQ) and got no replies.

So, you've got a HOME environment variable set up in c:\autoexec.bat (9x/ME)
or in the system environment (NT/2K), and it points to an existing
directory. Then, you attempt to run dia, it spews an error message in a
console window and otherwise doesn't run.

Do I get it ?

If yes, could you try this:
  * in the same directory as the dia.exe file (probably something like
"c:\program files\dia\bin" IIRC), create a file named "run_dia.bat", with
the following contents (remove indentation)
echo on
mkdir c:\temp\home
set HOME=c:\temp\home
echo "HOME is now %HOME% and the contents are "
dir %HOME%
dia
  * run this run_dia file.

Does this workaround work ?

Re: error message

2001-04-17 Thread carlo.lebrun

I had the same problem and FAQ no. 24 solved the problem

"Q: Why does my copy of Dia for Windows die when I try to load it?
A: Because the HOME environment variable is not set. Add a line like this to
your autoexec.bat file:
  set HOME=c:\home
then restart your computer and make sure c:\home exists. "

Steve was chatting the other day about Re: Adding SQL support and said:

 Cliff, Marten,

Are you aware of the dia2sql project?

 http://sourceforge.net/projects/dia2sql/

I found this while searching for a tool such as you describe. Marten -
have you progressed at all with your project to use dia to describe
database objects? At Runtime we are interested in such a tool, and if it
doesn't exist in building one, or helping to build one. I'd like to find
out what efforts already exist before starting.

I was trying to use the ER diagram in a way like dia2sql uses the UML, but its not
possible with it. Since everything is an object, I couldnt know the cardinality of an
entity.

I would like something too.
