Re: [DDN] Taiwan's Quanta to manufacture MIT $100 laptop
Here's an excerpt of an article I picked up in a newsletter for Asian IT journalists: South China Morning Post's tech editor Michael Logan noted that in his podcast interview with Professor Nicholas Negroponte of the Media Labs, that the laptop project was about providing the poor with the basic infrastructure of education. “This is a humanitarian effort,” said Negroponte. “The fact we use a laptop project is just incidental. This is an education project and not a laptop project.” Here's the URL for said podcast: http://streaming.scmp.com/podcasting/upload/tech_two_dec06.mp3 Regards. -- Daniel O. That clearly raises its viability to begin with.. Regardless of the differences of opinion on the meaning of $100 laptop, even if it extends the boundary of computer's reach by another degree, it should be welcomed. The questions about how to use it and how to benefit more or better must go on in parallel.
