[digitalradio] Re: QSL info for Digital modes

2005-09-05 Thread rich

LOTW and EQSL QSOs uploaded as MT63 MFSK work ok for me. MixW
won't allow me to change the mode to OLIVIA so I upload them as MT63
and use the Notes to specify the mode was OLIVIA.
Rich K2TFT

P.S. Gave up on LOTW2566 up and 129 returned.
 EQSL ~ 90% return.

Re: [digitalradio] 7070 Sig ID Request

2005-09-05 Thread Danny Douglas
Which brings it to mind that half the spots I see for PSK are not correct.
If you see a spot and click on it, your transceiver should NOT wind up on
that freq, but on a freq such that the waterfall marker winds up on the
exact position of the spotted station. In other words, if the waterfall
spot of the spotting station is setting on 14.07148, so should the marker on
my waterfall ( and the spot), and not around the 14.070 freq most people are
spotting. I too used the tranceiver freq as a spot freq, when I first
started out with PSK, but soon discovered that was incorrect, and I wasnt
helping others by mis-spotting.

Re: [digitalradio] Re: QSL info for Digital modes

2005-09-05 Thread Ron Walters
Rich,

WOW is all I can say about the 90% return from EQSL. I am even on
percent returns between LOTW and E-QSL. both low at about 20%.

One of the reasons I am seeing a equal or better return on LOTW is the
DX stations use it for contest confirmations verses the old paper trail,
thus we who worked them during the contest get a confirming QSL. On the
other hand E-QSL is not used as much by the contester (DX) stations and
most of my E-QSL's are from rag chewing QSO's although I have a good mix
of DX E-QSL's

Funny is that I have 83 DXCC confirmed via both LOTW and EQSL where I
have over 250 DXCC paper QSL's

Now when it comes to the mode issue I have recently recommended the use
of CLO for Olivia QSO's, I do not think that at this time many of us are
using clover so when using electronic QSL service either LOTW or EQSL
should not cause any problems.

I recommend CLO since an acronym came to mind which is Certainly Love
Olivia. CLO is recognized as a valid mode on both services. If I can
get a consensus I will going back over the log book and changing the
mode and downloading them to the services.

Your thoughts

Re: [digitalradio] Re: QSL info for Digital modes

2005-09-05 Thread Danny Douglas
Ron, please do not give up on LOTW. It is the only electrical logbook that
can be used for DXCC, and will soon be good for WAS and other awards. eQSL
will not now, or probably ever, be accepted for those particular awards.
You already have you logs in electronic form, you apparently have the
certificate for LOTW and it costs nothing to continue it. You do not have
to buy verifications if you do not want to, so there is no cost there
(unless - again, you want to). I find it extremely difficult to believe
that there would be anything like a 90 percent rate on eQSL, or any other
mode of QSLing, unless one only makes contacts on nets that use the eQSL
system for their own awards. I have uploaded all my logs for the past 21
years to both eQSL and LOTW, and the rate of return is as low on one, as it
is on the other (about 9-11 percent). The majority of my contacts are DX,
with only a few hundred on contests ( I use contests to look for new
countries/modes). I have enough in both systems to get DXCC on LOTW and the
100 countries award on eQSL, but neither comes anywhere near the 332
countries I have with paper logs.

What it comes down to is that it is only fair to other ops to continue to
confirm via whatever electronic procedure you can, if you are going to QSL
at all.

[digitalradio] Installing new MultiPSK - on top of or instead of

2005-09-05 Thread Paul
I downloaded the new MultiPSK program but I didn't see a
recommendation for installing over the top of the old version (like
DXLab's updates), or removing the old version and installing the
update as new. And if I remove, do I just trash the folder or do I
run the Remove control panel.

I tried the email link on the web site, but it bounced back as invalid.

Suggestions please.
Thanks and 73,(like DXLabs updates)
Paul

Re: [digitalradio] Re: QSL info for Digital modes

2005-09-05 Thread Ron Walters
Danny,

Thanks for the comments, I have no intention of giving up on LOTW or for
that matter E-QSL. They both provide a service to hams world wide.

I agree that it is funny that the actual ROR is lower than I initially
expected but that seems to be the normal rate 20%, when I first started
using LOTW the ROR on that service was below what E-QSL was and I think
that it had to do with the certificate issue.

My earlier email really had more to do with the mode selection for those
services when you want to confirm a Olivia digital mode QSO. Since we
have seen a steady decline in the use of AMTOR, PACTOR and CLOVER I have
suggested the use of the ADIF approved mode designation CLO for Clover
can be also used by the Olivia users to stand for that mode and help end
the confusion. Some are using MT63, some MFSK16 while others have
suggested RTTY as the mode to use when uploading the log. That was my
main point and not to indicate dissatisfaction with either LOTW or E-QSL.
