I have often thought of putting up a doctor program robot. When I was

"mount tape" and "password" and made vague promises.

Re: [digitalradio] Latest Advancement in Amateur Radio Contesting

2005-10-31 Thread Andrew J. O'Brien
he, he. Can we also make the ACR also act like " a big gun" and selfishly
move the DX/rare mult to 80M to test their audio equalization unit.

Actually, Bonnie...even with present day computing power we could get close
to this via the digital modes. Ham Radio Deluxe's PSK31 module already
trolls the PSK31 signals and alerts the user to the presence of PSK31 text
that meets their predetermined criteria. A slight modification to it, load
in the RTTY contesting master callsign database , and I could have my PSK31
software initiate a call to any station from the database. Then, if my
PSK31 software hears a 599 , it would trigger my to send a contest
exchange.

[digitalradio] Latest Advancement in Amateur Radio Contesting

2005-10-31 Thread expeditionradio
Latest Advancement in Amateur Radio Contesting

How wonderfully advanced the new ham contest stations are now, with
operators reaching maximum scores through machine-like precision!

A few buttons are pushed by the contest operator to send callsigns and
automatically generate signal report numbers. Computers log and check
everything, rotate beams, switch antennas, and even QSY in response to
a rare DX cluster spot.

Well, the time is now, to take contesting to the next logical step in
ham radio evolution: eliminate the human factor!

Enter the ultimate appliance: the Automated Contesting Robot (ACR).

Automated Contesting Robot, containing the most advanced computing
power available, is so much better suited to contesting than humans
are. ACR doesn't need a human to press the start and stop button,
because the time/date of the contest is automatically downloaded from
contesting websites.

ACR is capable of exchanging much more accurate and truthful signal
reports than humans. Computers don't make duplicate QSO errors! ACR
doesn't take it personally if another computer tries to take over its
frequency, it simply increases transmitter power, swings the beam, or
QSYs.

ACR doesn't get weary during long 48 hour contests. As Automated
Contesting Robots become fully utilized by every great contest
operator in the world, the duration of contests will be expanded to
weeks, months, or even the entire year. Just think, we can soon look
forward to continuous contests on the ham bands!

ACR does all the preparation for a contest beforehand, without
procrastination. The stored credit card information entered by the
purchaser of the ACR is used for other functions:

1. ACR orders the 6-over-6 stacked beams required for every band and
emails contracts to construction crews for installation of the entire
contesting station hardware system.
2. ACR orders the IC-7800s and high powered amplifiers for each band
and has them installed by qualified technicians.
3. Of course, the ACR would also order hardware upgrades such as 10GB
of RAM to continue to operate itself at full potential.

All of this is part of the wonderful ACR feature package...
it does everything, including one final item before resetting
for the next contest: ACR exchanges databases with all other
ACRs in the world, then orders the immediate delivery of
framed awards and gold trophies online, which are Fedex'd
overnight to the "Contest Operator".

As you can see, the all the mundane chores of contesting are now
completely solved by the ACR appliance, leaving the ACR owner to
join the ranks of the World's Greatest Contest Operators,
basking in the eternal adoration of fellow hams.

[digitalradio] Re: Making CQWW SSB...digital !

2005-10-31 Thread scottpa1960

I just joined this group 5 minutes ago, and reading through some of the notes.
This weekend was the first time I ever worked the CQWW in 20 years of hamming.
I usually only participate in the ARRL Nov. SS. But, the reason for this note
is to echo your comments. I made .wav files beforehand and used them, as my XYL
always complains that it interferes with her TV watching. This was a great
solution, but there were a couple of times that I had to jump on the microphone
because the station was having some sort of problem, ie., my callsign, but I'd
say 75% were totally w/o the mic. Some were telling me they weren't catching
the first letter of my callsign. Others were able to catch it. I guess next
time I make a .wav file for a contest, I will slightly delay the .wav.

Bring on the Nov. SS!

Scott KN3A
